- Hello and welcome to Lord Fenton Gaming plays Neverwinter Nights. I am your host Lord Fenton. In today's Neverwinter Nights build video, I am going to be building the Pale Guardian. The Pale Guardian is a Pale Master Centered build. It will start level 1-20 build than goes into the epic level builds. So you will have The Pale Guardian with the following classes:
Fighter
Wizard
Pale Master
Yes we will have epic Pale Master levels too. The Pale Master cannot be crit at all when you hit level 10. This is a very powerful and advanced build. This means you gotta know what your doing and when you do this build is for you. What is great is the insane amount of AC you can get. The positive is casting spells which makes it one deadly force.
A word of warning. Due to the OPed nature of the Pale Master feats, this class can be banned on other servers or nerfed. So just a warning.

Having this as chaotic neutral alignment reminds me of the fantasy tale of the doctor who tried to cheat death,in the sense they dont follow a real moral compass, they absorb what is happening and act from there

After comparing the lists, between Epic Wizard & Epic Pale Master - it seems like Epic Pale Master trumps Epic Wizard
Correct me, if I'm wrong
It seems that the main losses of Pale Master are Brew Potion & loss of Divination Spells, as Wizard, in exchange for the Necromancy School specialization
People go with the Pale Master also because of all the undead like bonuses including immune to critical hits. Downside of that for Pale Master is the no good alignment. Other than yeah Pale Master has things going on over an Epic Wizard.

Loosing the Good Alignment does put a damper on the Roleplaying & Social Pillar - good thing for the Neutral Alignment

Many years ago, I did a dwarven pale master and I think defender so was immune to all spells up to 5th level and all crits. One of the first NWN2 builds that DM's enabled PvP in-town to see how a pure dps build did against it... needless to say, the fight took about an hour or two. Also did another build on a server that had the sub-races and did female drow (follower of lolth) and had an unclothed AC of 72 or 76 (can't remember which it was). edit: Should also note that the dwarven version had both smite good and smite evil which proc off whenever someone tries to sneak attack... which is also crit-less because of the pale master effects.
That is cool. That is really cool that you make the Dwarven Defender + Pale Master build. That is insane with armor class plus the immunity to sneak. I bet you have a great time slaughtering people who tried you which is cool.

Glad you liked my Pale Master build. I am glad the consoles are now getting this game and having people experience what I've and many others experienced many years ago. This game is one of Bioware's greats. Hopefully Beamdog or someone else does Knights of The Old Republic 1.

they already showed how well they can do humanoid undead parts on PC's and it has absolutely No clipping through Shields or armor, thats great! But what i would have liked with pale master is the race to automatically change to undead once you get the arm, with like the appearance of a lich , and maybe like red glowing eyes. that would be very cool. (either Non-turnable if theres a way to set that or just count them as a lich for turn undead Dc, and fear immunity blocking turn completely)
I hope they do an NWN 3 and will have those type of options shown for a Pale Master.
I honestly doubt a Nwn 3, everything is all "Spend to play or go away" for dnd video games now , and i feel like they would heavily nerf this, still is fun though!

Anytime. This is a great tanking and other things build. Downside is you cannot be good and some servers on the PC will nerf the Pale Master or outright ban em.
If I ever try neverwinter, I'll probably go for this build.
It's a good game to play. This build is great just avoid certain online servers with issues with the Pale Master Prestige class.

@@VITAS874 You can go without armor since you are going to have to for awhile. Spells and feats will cover you on that end. You go for the auto still spell ones than it is fine to use armor.
@@LordFentonGaming unfortunately the game didn't let me go with my level 5 hero and they reduced it to level 2 without armor he die with 2 hit :) . Also he has frequent interruptions in casting spell, maybe shield is problem too.
@@VITAS874 Shields gives you arcane failure is the down side. Again once you do get the still spell feats than shield and armor it up if you wish.

That is a pretty cool build. Sneak attack and immune to crits which is great.
Also, i have seen that helmet so many times in your videos, and i LOVE the -cha that i notice on it (because wizards dont need intelligence) but what else does it do? what helmet is it exactly? Is it obtainable without accessing the console?
I think it has some other stats in it and not sure what it is. As for console access I don't use it. The module I use gives it to you.

That is cool. I think Ravenloft does allow Pale Masters too but the catch is you gotta hide that new arm though.

Should i level this up in Say... Shadows of undertide then transfer over to Hotu? Or should i just Drop them straight out of the creator into hotu (Free 15 levels comes to mind) ? I Also hear When you memorize Scroll's as a palemaster, you want to wait until a pale master level (example if you buy a level 6 scroll as a wizard, save until your next pale master ) Because it will Use pale master levels instead of wizard for duration, efficiency ECT. is this misinformation or true?
I would level up in SoU to learn the basic ropes from 1 to 13 on this build. After that go into HotU and have fun with it. If I remember they can use a level 6 scroll if the Pale Master for example is 10 wizard/19 Pale Master. However the problem is the spell level when using said spell will be that of the wizard.

What stats for magic items should this build look for?
Most Ac boosting rings and the like dont properly stack with my buffs , so maybe choose intelligence for more spell slots? Then for helmet im Kind of stuck..
I found this nice HOTU helmet (i always grab it on pure wizard, not sure if pale master is different), a +6 intelligence bonus, add 2 rings of clear thought +3 (or one that has +6, leaving a slot)
Or this nice helmet my (first) sorcerer took, it gives Haste, electric resistance of 20/-
Of course i plan on taking a scrimtar , so abusing the forge gives me the following ideas:
Scrimtar with at least +5
Haste (free Ac, an extra attack per round , seems like a good enchantment for a weapon to me)
Keen
Elemental damage (acid is very rare immunity so maybe I'll pick that, or electric)
Abusing the black temple altar to upgrade my weapon with dc 24 strength drain
Lesser golem armor i found in a shop, i wouldn't say it benefits my pale master much due to the armor giving immunity to crit, but I'm already immune, i could use dragon armor , its full plate, -80% of its weight (could care less) and 20/- fire resistance (semi useful? )
Boots Dragon slippers
Immunity to knockdown, +2 dex (meh)
Amulet of Greater health (this gives me immunity to level drain/sickness/poison, added with pale master already having some immunity this gives All undead immunities,except mind spells , clarity fixes this)

Good idea with the weapon, haste and keen. I'd add a debuff to it to so when it hits foes feel it. As for the equipment look for any immunities. Good idea to focus on + str for more meleeing or + int if your more into it. The Amulet of Greater health is great. Very OPed since it has so many immunities. As for plate look for good ones and yes there are some nice ones in the later chapters.

It's one of my builds I've done. I am going to do more as I see fit in the future.
This build would be perfect for surron from lord of the rings, (No he's not just in eyeball if you seen the movies, he's that death knight)
The alive and armored version would be good for this build since he is all powerful.
I was wrong to judge this build so swiftly, Yes the battles take long with only 3 attacks a round (or for my current level 15 version just 2 attacks) But you are safe. And immune to critical hits (No worry for sneak attacks is a nice bonus too, ) You have Summons that are better then even a pure wizard can access,and you get the amazing Feel of being a Badass necromancer! My fighter 24 Has 40+ Ac wearing +6 tower shield and +8 full plate, But pale master is AMAZING on the Ac rests at 37 (using still spell for buffs! ) with buffs (shield has been more useful then i though, especially when paired with mage armor for a total of +7 ac , plus plate and shield is Huge. Only a monk could possibly compare with that at only level 15. Unfortunately i made the mistake of 12 strength so melee is pathetic on the current version im running, going to Delete that version (Was more or less of a test) and recreate with strength 18 intelligence : 13 (?) Couldn't get a good look at what the intelligence was but if i remember +1 is 13-14 for a stat con 12 (ignore dex and the rest) then take still spell for a plate caster (was thinking still the buffs until i get auto still 3) , would this work? (Fighter 6/wizard 6/pale master X?)
Made a slight mistake, i shouldn't need auto still spell right? Just a sacrifice of spells like time stop but i dont think it will hurt this build too much will it?
It is a really nice fighter build too. As for Int I would see what spells you can cast up to and what you want. For example if you want a level 6 spells for buffs as a fighter than 16 int and the rest str (Good idea to start 14-16 str). As for Still Spell perfect choice to take and later on you can get auto still spell. The fighter 6/ wizard 6/ Pale Master X is a great choice.
If i wanted to go on the offensive using Non-epic spells, what would be viable? First things that come to my mind are: greater missile storm (no save? Might not be worthwhile because provided i did the right calculations, It is 1 Missile per 3 caster levels, Unless you learn it on a palemaster level via scroll that would be a mere 2 missiles, less then the level one spell magic missile! ) black tentacles because the save is for the paralysis and not damage. Mayyybe power word kill, No save, less then 100 hit points = single target death or 20 hitpoints per mob, Does run off caster level for aoe form however. I think if there was a mod to show mob Hp (kind of like how they have now but without the MMO shenanigans), or maybe i could go a little unique and use some enchantment spells (hold person, charm monster, mass charm, dominate monster?) Not sure
Greater Missile storm I seen people use that. Black Tentacles is good too. Even Ice Storm is a nice hp shredder. Go with what you feel can get the most results.
You mean I can't teach him spells as long as he's a palemaster?
Would this build be viable if you went with bard instead of wizard? Bards get Discipline, Tumble and Use Magic as class skills, have a better BAB than wizards and can qualify for Red Dragon Disciple shenanigans. Plus, the idea of a heavily armored harbinger of death instilling fear into his enemies by singing is pretty amusing.
I know that the undead minions the Pale Master gets is rather underpowered for epic levels but what about for the single player modules?
You could do Bard however I did the Wizard on purpose for some nice spells to get. If you do a bard you do get some nice stuff like you mention. If you can get a Pale Master to 10 and it's bonus stuff you can easily sweep those campaigns hard and never worry about critical hits.
@@LordFentonGaming Yeah, the Wizard would be the better choice in the grand scheme of things. The lack of True Strike does stink and I am fond of the panther familiar (sneak attack dps shenanigans).
I'm not too worried about being too overpowered in the single player modules. I intend for my undead minion and follower to be dishing out most of the damage while I just tank and buff my allies.

Funny, now that i think of it, this is like a cleric, but with extra steps (and arcane spells!)
But anyways, i have spell questions, and questions about alignment , nwn wiki isn't working for me , if i am mainly going to play the player vs monster modules, is being "smite proof" still worth it?
Keeping neutral is hard for me honestly, i find myself hitting O (escape conversation button for ps4) , but is it *really* worth the effort to be "smiteproof" if none of the foes have "smite evil/good"?
Why not be evil? (Im more or less asking because im trying to find a good excuse to not kill everyone in the Oc for maximised Xp, im a psychopath when i play evil)
Also siding with [spoiler] (hotu, you probably know exactly who i mean) gives -50 good guy points (basically a 100% downgrade in good vs evil) , but the seers Army is weak , or maybe its because the one time i did it wail of the banshee was heavily abused (they didn't bother to split up!)
, being evil Allowed some nice options in my opinion (there was a sleeping outsider, Stabbed him, he woke up, even if it was evil)
Is neutral really worthwhile outside of PVP?
If your not going onto any form of player made modules it is not worth it. Rarely you face smite foes. If your doing those than go for it. Trust me it is not easy to go through the alignment system and yes you need to play the alignment game and keep track of your actions which is hard.
As for PVP it is worth doing smite proof. It kills any smiters extra damage.
Also, why take power word kill? There is no way to gauge HP to my knowledge, what I tend to use is there is 3 states between full Hp and "near death, so i count in fractions (ex 1/5 hp = near death?) , how do you know their exact hp?
I took it at the time it felt like a good option to have. You can gauged by the class they play. Than tab on the PC version to see what status they are at too after the spell.
But monsters and the like dont have a class, im more or less thinking PVE
Question involving Pale master nerfs, i hear the Oc isn't good to build with prestige classes due to it not being optimized for the Random boosts of power from prestige classes (your opinion? Im asking you because you ran the Oc with RDD), but my version of neverwinter nights (EE console ) came with some extra bioware modules (the same ones that came with diamond edition i believe) , do any of these nerf/alter pale master? The exact one im thinking of doing is either to heir is human Or winds of elemor.
Im planning on carrying over to hotu, they both start me around 6-10 . im not sure how many levels it exactly gives me (im estimating I'll end around 16-17). thank you!
Also, doesn't the low caster level effect the Duration of buffs that run off of x Rounds/+1 per caster level?
I also hear Pale master was altered (caster level wise) in a way that limits spell progression (less spells per day) , is this true?
The only thing I can thing up is bad for Prestige classes is because of lack of Prestige class items in OC. At the time Bioware didn't want to mess with the code. To an extent same with Beamdog. I don't think they nerfed them. I know the devs gave servers the option to nerf the feat out of the Pale Master on certain feats. Buffs are normally dura by caster level or a certain stat. So look out for those.
That is the downside of the Pale Master they get spell levels but you gotta raise your Wizard or Sorcerer to benefit from higher spell levels.
Question about alignment (mostly mostly involving Lawful evil)
I was playing an evil character, did an evil act, (i think it was mugging a noble, or murder. Not sure)
I get the message "your actions have shifted your alignment x (variable) points towards evil"
I thought "Thats great!" And check my character sheet to check just how evil i was at the time, i was 3 points towards evil before, but then i lost evil points? I somehow had an alignment of lawful 60/evil 0
How can i be evil 0? Wouldn't that be neutral?
How did i lose evil points from a evil act? Can lawful evil only be so evil compared to law?
Whats werider is i played a chaotic evil villain , and i gained evil points (as normal) , was this a bug?
Similar thing happened with paladin (did good acts) but lost good points (which hurt far worse for this one as my other one i could be Anything on the alignment scale)
Was lawful good (of course)
Any fixes around? Or should i just go full chaotic evil? (I was doing this build as lawful evil, figured it fit, but with how much of a struggle it is i may change my mind)
Or maybe its that alignment scale you mentioned? (again Dm was very generous and let paladin and the like murder without penalties, so i ignored alignment entirely until i played this)

It is like this. 0 = Chaos. 100 = Lawful. Same with Evil = 0 and Good = 100. So if your evil you want that number to drop to 0 so don't panic. Same as Chaotic you want that lower. If your Lawful Evil you want the lawful part to be 100 while Evil 0. So do not panic at all. You did nothing wrong. Just to more evil acts to NPCs and others in the campaign you play and your golden.

@@jakegovson1813 It is than again I remember from the Baldur's Gate series it doesn't. Just remember those numbers and you got control of your alignment.
awesome build! But I’m wondering how to reach level 40? It seems that even in hotu, end game level is like 27or28. If that is the case, do I need to make some adjustments to this build or just follow the exact progression?
Thanks. I used a build module to get to 40. As for adjustments you do not need to. You just use the build that is layed out.

Like the build but is there a way to trade in some con for dex and use skills like tumble and feats like doge to be fast and untouchable.
Thanks. You can tweak the stuff I put in and do that. Just remember to avoid wearing heavy armor to get the full dex bonus to abuse this.
I was thinking 14 str 16 dex 12 con 16 int 8 wis 8 chr. But I'm not sure if I should switch str and dex or will the higher dex up my crit chance wich would negate the lower strength? Still planning on pumping strength and maybe do 18 str 18 dex and 20 int by lvl 40.
@@rickwolf2727 Critical hits are a roll of a dice to get a better shot at it either keen a weapon or improved critical Weapon of your choice feat. Certain weapons crit more than others. If you going for more a dex built yeah sacrifice some strength. This does sound like a plan just remember if your going for that Devstating Crit you do need str to 25 otherwise your fine with the setup your planning.
Also, i understand this build seems to release its full potential at 40-30 curve, But would it be possible to adapt it to 21-30 or 30-37? (planning on doing the Sou-hotu with maybe oc to scrap up a little Xp ) Does that mean i should adjust the spell casting to 7 or 8 level (i dont see many benefits from 9th besides time stop But i dont see it being Very worthwhile except all attacks hit during time stop) ? Tell me if you have any ideas please
If you want immune to crits you might have to adjust otherwise just try for 18-19 levels in Sorcerer and see where it goes from there.
I tried this, but something feels off, (im counting deathless vigor as +3 constitution because +1 to constitution = +1 Hp a level) , i started at con 12(15 counting deathless vigor) and i feel very squishy, Maybe im using the wrong buffs? Here is my spell list:
Cantrips are all light because its sometimes useful, and no somatic component
Level 1 is as many true strikes i can stuff in there, as well as a stilled resistance (+1 to every save type is always welcome for me, saved my pure wizard's life a few times)
Second level: stilled shield and stilled mage armor (+7 ac, unfortunately only the +4 from sheild spell stacks, and the +1 dodge for a total of +5), silenced true strike to fill it in (read all about it, true strike can only be silenced/quickened, there is a display issue and it shows a false somatic component, therefore cannot be stilled)
Third level:
Stilled invisible (?) Displacement (no somatic component, no still spell needed) stilled Bulls strength, stilled endurance (?)
Those are normally what i pick (that i know i will 100% be able to use), any suggestions?
Try Endurance to boost up your con more which gives you 1d4+1 Con depending how lucky you are. As for Bull's str it gives you 1d4+1 str depending on luck. Shield gives you 4 AC in deflection bonus however great against low level wizards since it immune you from magic missile. Keep the mage armor it's a good spell. Ghostly visage helps with damage reduction too. Those I can think off for now.
Also, is there a set reason for no boots of speed and just using the haste spell?
I am using the haste spell or haste potions. If you get a boots of speed use it til you find another boots with something like immune to fear than have those two options ready.

Can i cast level 9 spells with this? Is there a low dc for spells? And i see you don't use the upgraded level 10 palemaster "deathless master touch", why? Its basically 3 free finger of death spells without needing to memorize them (i dont know if the save dc scales from 17+ )
Well I use the other spells and it's a touch feat. Otherwise I'd spam it from a distance. If I remember it can use some level 9 spells as long as you get the feat ones too like Hellball.
Hi I'm new to the game but how do you cast all those spells with a 95% arcane spell failure with the tower shield/full plat armour
Still spell feats. The original still spell one allows no failure in arcane spell casting. However, it occupied a spell slot one level higher. Automatic still spell in the epic levels negates the one spell slot higher thing.

I think maybe because of up to 100 hp limit on single target or 200hp limit on area of effect target might be the cause.

I think it was a mistake to take the scimitar. because one-handed swords always fall.
Scimitars are good when you do level up more. Even better when you keen the living crap out of them. Long swords aren't bad either. Now if you want to avoid 1hers than Great Swords are nice as well. Using it for my Blackguard's Infinite Dungeons run.
@@LordFentonGaming I finally got to the merchant and was able to sell junk, the module is quite difficult because they don’t sell first-aid kits, and speed boots don’t drop out, I walk in the clothes of a wizard, this gives an additional cell for spells, some swords give vampirism and attack, it tempts :), I don't know much about the original game unfortunately, will there be party members? I only have a dog.
@@VITAS874 In Eye of the Beholder PC and Consoles version you make a party of four. The two you will have to revive to get them into your party when you find their bones. They made it tough which is nice.
@@LordFentonGaming oh, do I need to revive them? maybe I missed them because I'm already at level 3. 😂 Usually in NWN you can't revive NPCs and i just spend sticks on them without effect.

Another question, im a huge fan of completely negating spells (dear lord i love spell mantles far too much) , so i prefer spell mantles (globe of invulnerablity is fun too), but i hear all over the internet that dwarves (dwarven defenders in particular) are immune to up to 5th level spells, how does this function? (i believe i even found a comment on this very video stating this) im a big fan of pure dwarven wizard for that +2 to con

My builds I test and test and test. Also some from experience and digging up information on what is good. For example Spell Breach it is a certain amount it takes down. Now Dispel you need an saving throwing to keep your buffs. IF you get the level 9 one well you need rolls but great news if it passes you will dispel all your foes goods.
Dwarven Defenders I think it is a class thing and pretty good for them to have too. You have to dive deep into the feats and requirements for a Wizard Dwarven Defender. It can work but your Wizard spell levels will suffer.
Would sorcerer/rdd/pm be usable? Imagine max lvl breath weapon on someone you paralized lol

well, i 13 lvl master, but i still not unbeatable. It's really that this build is banned in online ? also met an enemy like Achilles, he cannot be beaten with a sword only with magic. It's good that I didn't take a warrior or a paladin.
So glad you are progressing your character. Yes it is banned the prestige class the Pale Master due to most likely the Immune to Critical Hits feats. Could be other feats you do get too. That is crazy Achilles is immune to melee.
@@LordFentonGaming but warrior or sorcerer can do good dmg to him( to pale master). Yes that demon on level 5 dungeon is casting speed no one can't hurt him melee is useless.
+ i have 5 to strength, thanks to belt and gloves, 28 armor thanks to wizard special robe.
@@LordFentonGaming hard choice. dog or dwarf, dog can regenerate but she can't wear armor, dwarf is also warrior I have 2 warrior in team and I pale master 😂 but I feel sorry for dog he like hatiko.
