People complain about how the show ended, but for me, the most egregious thing was how they ruined Stannis.
D&D ruined too many characters by the end, but Stannis was the one ruined character that hurt me the most.
Not only that: he died and no one cared. No one mentioned him afterwards. As if he had left no impact. Ridiculous
Yes. It was the worst part of the show
Exactly. Such a great actor but still bad writing wasn't able to save him from d&d 💔
All Stannis needed was 50 good men!
He didn't want the throne, but as Robert's heir it was his duty to be king.
Thats all you need to know about him.
I'm just wondering what excuse George will have to kill him
White walkers probably, he seems too experience as a commander and fighter to die in combat to his remaining enemies
White walkers probably, he seems to experience as a commander and fighter to die in combat to his remaining enemies
White walkers probably, he seems to experience as a commander and fighter to die in combat to his remaining enemies
Wouldn't the next king be Robert's bastard which he legitimized? It's weird because legetimised bastards have always had a claim to the throne while the targs were ruling and legitimized bastards take over for lords all the time
There is nothing more terrifying than a truly just man.
The devil runs when a good man goes to way
It would be more accurate to say that there is nothing more terrifying than a man burning people alive but whatever…
He isn't though. He's literally burning people alive constantly for a religion he doesn't really believe in because he's desperate and knows the magic works.
@@Blindspoon709Just doesn’t necessarily equal good, as shown by Stannis’ actions when compared to someone like Eddard who was obviously a good man. A lot of Wallachians might’ve viewed Vlad as just but we all know just how good of a man he was.
You mean a lawful neutral man
Stannis is the only king I’ll bend my knee to, no matter how it end for him in the books.
Probably the most deserving guy on the Iron Throne. The show did him dirty and the 20 good men were just as bad as: "Somehow, Palpatine has returned."
Stannis is the only worthy king besides book Daenerys. The 20 good men was dumb AF. I would have liked to see Stannis lake trap in the show but D&D missed the mark.

Hail Mary
I like how Stannis resents and respects Robert at the same rime.
I think it mostly happened after roberts rebellion stannis always was in the shadow of Robert
But stannis also chose his brother over duty when Robert rebellion began it was to either choose duty and follow his king or choose his brother
He ended up supporting his brothers cause(I think one of the only times you see him not put duty first)
Held storms end for a year with barely any food because his brother ordered him to do so
But it went downhill if I’m correct after Robert told him him to take dragonstone and kill dany and Viserys but they managed to escape and Robert blamed it on stannis
Gave him dragonstone(although that’s where the heirs were seated stannis saw it as an insult) there’s more
But even then their personalities are the complete opposite of eachother so even then they would’ve not gotten along well due to the personality clash, there was a lot of resentment but some respect to eachother
People generally aren’t characteristically morally black and white, there’s grey in all action and inaction, people are generally psychologically layered and multi-faceted. Stannis as an older brother might resent Robert getting all the attention, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love his brother, and wouldn’t die for him. Stannis refused to plot to take the throne while Robert died, something that cost him time and the element of surprise, had he moved on the capitol that many days earlier he most likely could’ve staked his claim.
People do weird shit for weird reasons man.
@@Onlyhiphopbrendan Robert is the older brother
Stannis is the Mannis and the show did him dirty on so many levels.
I don't see how anyone who has read the books can say that -- he murdered his brother and his daughter in the BOOKS TOO!
@@georgegreene8396Renly's death is kind of ambiguos and Shireen is still pretty much alive in the books
@@georgegreene8396 tell me you didn't read shit without telling me you didn't read shit. Stannis couldn't even kill Shireen even if he wanted. He left her at CastleBlack before heading to Winterfell. Stannis didn't even know how Renly died. It was all Melisandre's doing and even then, Stannis feels horribly guilty about it while Renly declared war and boasted about how he would kill his own brother.
"The waves finally carried me, soaked and near-blind from seawater, through the mouth of the cavern beneath the castle.
Then Stannis Baratheon arrived.
The siege had left him gaunt, but not weak, NEVER WEAK.
He greeted me and accepted my onions with cool courtesy,
betraying no emotion even as ALL WEPT.
He doled out the food to his WIFE
and each of his MEN
BEFORE he ate himself,
a portion no larger than any other.
When he finally thanked me,
I could see his mind had already returned to the castle's defence.
HIS DUTY.
this dialogue alone being delivered by stephen dillane would've been 10x better than whatever we got from show stannis
Come on George let Stannis live
George will treat him better, unlike d&d.
I Dont think George RR M will complete the books they ways he's going lol
- And when all the soft-hearted fans cry out to me: "Spare our favorite characters!", I will whisper: "no".
At this point, George probably doesnt even remember who Stannis is 😂
he may die but I doubt it will be outside winterfell. stannis is too deadly and cunning for that. not the things I have seen this man survive. there is a reason why everybody is afraid of him. even Tywin said during the war of the 5 kings stannis was the only one who concerned him. his only defeat was at kingslanding, and that was due to betrayal. it didnt happen how the show depicted it. way different but he lost that battle cause of betrayal. if he wasn't betrayed Tywin and the rest would have lost.
Stannis is very misunderstood as desperately wanting the throne for it being his right. Rather he is fighting for the throne because it is his duty. He cannot allow Westeros to be ruled by bastards and usurpers. Doing so would be allowing his kingdom to bleed and be soiled. He states is plainly that it is his duty to fight for the throne for Robert even though he has no love for him as his heir and for Shireen as she is his.
Stannis was strong, stable, and sensible. The way a man should be!
Triple SSS. He really is the GOAT.
I hope Stannis wins in the books. He would be a just king and I doubt he would really sacrifice his daughter. We know it's going to happen and most likely at Melisandre's hands, but before this happens it would be great to watch Ramsway burn at the stake and die screaming!
I, at the very least, want him to win the North and become the king there. Stannis the King of the North. Iron Throne next.
Stannis”giga chad” Baratheon
Stannis basically saying “fuck my brother and how he does things, we ride into winterfell anyways to liberate the north or die trying.” Is so unbelievably bad ass it gets me so hype every time I read it. This guy just lost at the blackwater like a little over a year prior to this and now he’s going to attempt to take another more equally difficult to take castle in winterfell, in the middle of the winter and he’s like “fuck it we ball.”😂
Just a friendly reminder that being a great warrior doesn't mean to be a great king.
Yup. Though I do think Stannis has qualities and experience that would make him a good king, his ruthlessness could be a problem. Aegon and Jahaerys I showed that the ability to forgive your former enemies is greatly important for keeping the realm together. Stannis would not do well in that regard.
Stannis is like the good n just version of tywin, he is little loved, but he gonna make a good king..
@@user-qv4bp7vg6u don't forget Daenerys is coming home an Faegon is at storm's end but I do think Stannis would be good king better than Robert
@@cherylbaxter8986 robert was a great warrior, he wasn't really a good king, his realm was at peace bc he was a force of nature, nobody dear oppses him durin his reign, ask greyjoy.....I compare roberts reign to viserys 1 reign, he got the throne n settled.
But Stannis has the help of Ser Davos, as long as Stannis has Davos he can overcome some of his faults

I think people are denial because of how much they love Stannis and imo he’s getting beaten and killed by the Boltons
I agree. I see why yall love him cause he is a character to be loved yet guys like him go out like “Rob” did in the Red Wedding and if you look at it those guys are one in the same. Stannis never had the cojõnes.
Boltons are in for a cold swim.
L take, like pretty much every Stannis hate comment around.
He has a plan and the advantage but the Boltons don't know it.
One realm! One god! One king!❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I think the brother he was going to talk about is Renley there. Stannis is making mistake. When I listen to it over reading, Thorpe is saying something else here.
No they were definitely talking about Bobby B more or less for the reason that renly had never been in a war before I.e. sat and did nothing with 100,000 men.
Lord PEEEEEEEEASEbury.
Oh thank god. After Lord Beesbury died I thought I’d never be able to do that again.
As a younger brother it’s hard to live up to the expectations of a successful older sibling but Stannis does everything the right way and couldn’t care less what other ppl think.
That why I fucking love stannis man, no mater what we move forward. You either get what you going after or die trying G shit.
When Stannis said 'Anyway subscribe for more' I knew I was reading peak fiction.
The one true king of Westeros right here
Stannis is setting up Bolton for some frozen lake action like Napoleon
Ever wonder what would happened in an encounter between daenerys and stannis?....because unlike robert...i never heard and read stannis begrudging targaryens
No but Dany fucking hated the Baratheons
Stannins at the throne is single handedly the best WHAT IF in the entire series.

Now that is a man I could follow.

That first pic looks like Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder
Stannis the Mannis got done dirty in the show.
Wish there were more stannis scenes in the series , r.i.p
Im stuck at the part where Robert would slam down the door on his own, which is a terrifying fact...
I cant believe Rhaegar actually faced him 1v1 at the Trident, the dude was mad as fuck, tall, with a huge ass hammer and a huge shield.
That Asha chapter is awesome.
It would have been cool to see show Stannis capture Yara (asha) in season 4 after she attempts to free Theon from the Dreadfort. It was around this time Stannis was moving north from Dragonstone to Braavos to the Wall
We are never going to get the Winds of winter completed... We just can't. I hope Martin has picked a protégé to help complete his work one day. Maybe in 20yrs I'll will be done.
The true King ❤️
My king
I think they need to be swap leadership like Imagine Robert taking Winterfell that would be fun and he missed being a Soldier and Stannis should be king of 7 kingdoms it like if tywin was taking seriously he would saved the kingdoms from going to war
There's a fanfic I read where after Robert's Rebellion, he abdicates the Throne in favor of Stannis and sets out with Ned, Jaime, Gerion Lannister, Lyn Corbray, the Blackfish to hunt an absconding Rhaegar across Essos. That quest evolves in the Westerosi emancipating the cities of Myr, Tyrosh and Volantis from slavery while Stannis rules Westeros.
Can you please tell me you have a link???? @@arvindkhurana8851
The peace that Westeros would have been if Stannis was made king.
They did him so dirty in the series
One of my favorite characters.
I cant wait till the next book comes out and we get stannis taking winterfell
We march to victory or we march to defeat but we march forward.
I hope Stannis gonna be the first southerner to be King of North. This can explore Stannis way of handling a kingdom like how GRRM said about "Aragon's tax policy" to justify Stannis to be king of seven kingdoms as a test.
Well...since D&D were given the cliff notes of how every character meets their end...Stannis dying at the siege of Winterfell will probably still happen, albeit differently.
This man sacrificed everything and more for what truely belonged to him and in the end still lost it all.
By the seems of things Stannis (lack of heir/hair*) is STILL camped 🏕 out on that Ice 🧊 Lake near Winterfell.
He MUST be 🥶 Freezing his Bollocks, and Bald Head off, now some 13 years later 😂
Well, yes, in the books he has started sacrificing ppl to Melisandre's Lord of Light in order to try to get the blizzard to thaw, but it is not working. This has not driven him to sacrifice his own daughter, YET,but....
Maester Aemon said it the best; “Love is the death of duty.”
Stannis stood entirely on duty. Even in the show those were his final words “do your duty.”
Stannis sounds much better in the books and while I haven’t read them it sucks major ass that we never got book Stannis in the show after hearing how badass he is
Stannis the Mannis ❤️🔥❤️🔥

Stannis the Mannis
Pray harder. For the true king of Westeros is marching on your gates.
Unfortunately, George himself suggested they end Shireen that way. So Stannis is probably going to end the same way in the books that will never be released.
The King doing his job. All hail the Mannis.
Love the Chad Stannis image
Stannis will capture Winterfell with 20 good men.
The first picture jaksbsk
Love got🎉
Stannis is such a great character. And the upside to GRRM's zero effort on the books means that book Stannis will never be tainted by burning his daughter at the stake for the imaginative wish for a break in the snow fall.
Stannis the Mannis was done dirty by the show
So first, i thought they were gonna go in a completely dofferent direction with the "slay roose with his left hand" based on roberts penchant for having sex (ie, something about masturbating with the right) and aecond, i like how it depicts robert as being aupwr chaotic with stannis being more lawful. I can only imagine stannis teying to plan with robert "so, i have this idea for a three pronged attack. If we plan this pwrfectly, we get"
"Yea yea yea nerd. Ill do that....WARHAMMER TIME!!!!"
Common Stannis W
Overall I think it was really stupid for Stannis to go to the wall. His battle was in the central lands- Crown Lands, Reach, West, Storm’s End- not in the North. How did he expect to conquer all of Westeros from the most remote places of the kingdom?
In fairness, he wasn’t doing so well in the south. If he could free the north and get its lords on his side, it would be easier than staying on Dragonstone and continuing the fight from there. There are other reasons, but this is the most relevant one.
@@ranger3576that doesn’t mean abandon the area. He was suppose to win the battle of blackwater bay. Then he got more funding from the iron bank. Instead of using the newly funded ships to go north he could’ve used those ships to go to the crownlands or anywhere else and used his new army to try to take Kings Landing or Casterly Rock or the High Garden.
@@jimeno726 To my knowledge, he lost the battle of the Blackwater, and most of his army. By the time he sailed north, he didn’t have enough men to invade Kingslanding, Casterly Rock, or Highgarden successfully. He needed more men, and he didn’t entirely abandon Dragonstone. He left a small garrison behind, which admittedly wasn’t enough, but he was taking the risk that getting the north behind him would give him a larger army and a safer base of operations. It’s harder for the Lannisters and their allies to attack the North than it is for the Greyjoys, so he’d have time to prepare and fight on a ground of his choosing on the home turf of most of his new army. It would also allow him to just move south and attempt to get more houses along the way. House Arryn of the Vale, the houses of the riverlands that once served Robb Stark, he’s probably thinking they’ll join him once they see he has an army of northmen following him. He can then march on either Casterly Rock or Kingslanding as he pleases. I don’t remember if he decided to go north before or after Tywin’s death, but at least now he knows that once he marches south again, nobody could really challenge him except Randyll Tarly, who he might never encounter anyway.
It's explained better in the books. Stannis went to the north because the real enemy, the others, were coming from the north. He understood (with Davos' help) that his people were more important than his rights to the throne. He cared for the kingdom more than the crown.
Most people are confused in life. Stannis Barathean showed you dont have to be confused you dont haveto believe nonsense or follow gods or magic or anything. Simply do your duty diligently whereever you are. 😮
His last words in the show to Brienn of tarth before ahe kills him - "go on, do your duty"😢
The Goddamn Mannis!!!!
I liked Stannis
So that was why they had to kill off Robert. If he was still alive he would have crushed the night king with his right hand while choking Tywin with his left while stomping on all 3 of Dany’s dragons before the day was over.
This might be weird but here goes:: Remember Rick Dicker from The Incredibles?
He said “People who do the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do make other people nervous.”
Stannis was going to ruin business as usual for all of the houses riding the coattails of his elder brothers efforts and the kingdom at large.
🦌❤🔥
STANNIS THE MANNIST
I think the combined forces of Stannis, Jon and Mance can overcome the Boltons, especially since there is a growing anger against Bolton/Frey control.

Stannis the goddam mannis.
Stannis the one true king
God Save The King
That doesn't prove he's the "best king". Just that he is a competent general. Even then he's subpar.
Ill equipped, ill experienced, and undermanned. He doesn't stand a chance. Not his fault. The Northerners only recognize one king, the King in the North.
Stannis the fucking mannis lol everyone respected him and Tywin feared him because he was that just. Took the onion knight’s fingers because it was illegal to smuggle 😅 such a great character
THE MANNIS 💪💪
THE ONE TRUE KING!!!
Stannis was old like Tywin and throwing his smaller army after the desertions they had at the Boltons was a young commanders mistake and completely out of character for an old character in line to be king just look at Daemon he is another old character in line to rule because he is brutal enough and old and experienced enough to not make mistakes like this. In the real world after the defeat of Stannis's fleet against Kings Landing he should've booted the red woman and avoided the next failure like any rational lord would do.
the best king wouldn't burn his own daughter alive
Or summon a demonic shadow to kill his own brother.
Only in the show he did it. And it was because D&D admitted they hated the character.

I found Stannis to be something of a humorless twit, in the book AND show. His one redeeming quality was not letting his soldiers "use" Asha.
Humorless twit? Has some of the best snark:
"A year ago I was scheming to make the girl Robert's queen," Renly said, "but what does it matter? The boar got Robert and I got Margaery. You'll be pleased to know she came to me a maid."
"In your bed she's like to die that way."
