So this past week I went to GhanaFest 2022 in Chicago, which is probably the closest you can come to being in Africa in America. With a massive market full of African goods, traditional tribal dances, and incredible food from Ghana and West Africa, I made a lot of new friends here when I spoke the Twi language. #ghana #ghanafest #twi

Latin is sort of the key to the "romance languages" of Spanish, French and Italian. She learnt German so that she could have a crack at Dutch and Old Norse. Nelson Mandela once said, "Because when you speak a language, English, well many people understand you, including Afrikaners, but when you speak Afrikaans, you know you go straight to their hearts.” (many people tend to misquote this, ironically the Mandela effect)
Whether people misquote it or not, he's still right and this can be said about any language. It's amazing how much happiness and friendliness occurs when people relate to and understand one another. Not all heroes wear capes, and the ability to converse with a wide variety of native speakers in their native languages is practically a superpower. When people move to another country where their native language isn't the dominant one, it's hard to understand. But when you're constantly expected to assimilate to another country's culture, values, and society, it must be so nice to have someone take that step for you too to better connect with new communities and welcome them with open arms

A little context though, Xiaoma asked if he was _accustomed_ to the food there, and that's when he responded with the whole Chinese restaurants everywhere deal. That's definitely important for Chinese people if they can't handle spice.
