This might sound hyperbolic, but I swear if you gave Pedro Martinez 2 hours of solo work with every pitcher in baseball and the overall ERA and WHIP of both leagues would drop by 15%. It is rare that a formerly great player can talk about the art of what they did and not sound like, "I did it this way and I did it that way." He could teach your 11 year old to throw over the plate, he could take a struggling pro and refit the one or two flawed fundamentals back into him and he could take a guy who is going really well, add in a small change in grip or finger pressure, balance out his stride a bit and make him just that more effective.

Same here, I couldnt pinpoint the issue like pedro but it looked quirky and looked like he was releasing the ball near his ear instead of the desired downward plane.
His k/bb ratio has always been absolutely insane in college and the minors so thats a great start. In all levels (college-MLB) he has 468 Ks and only 78 walks. I think nerves have played a part in his control as of late. But maybe his mechanics got a little messed up because of the shortened spring training and time off, who knows. Im confident he will figure it out!

Pedro is 100% correct. I saw the bad mechanics after 2 pitches. And with bad mechanics and he throws hard splitters that will stress the elbow and it almost always leads to tommy john.

that is not how it works. if your shoulder is weak it doesnt make your elbow weak. The stronger joint gets all the stress placed on it which is what can cause your elbow or shoulder to blow. If your elbow is weak, your shoulder will take the stress, and no matter how strong, it will blow. it works both ways.

Split finger is an evil pitch. Look at the Giant and Astros in the 80's... a lot of very good, if not great pitchers using the split finger. BUT, how long did they last. Roger Craig prob ruined a lot pitching careers after a couple of seasons.
the split finger doesnt stress the arm. it is a myth that was came about because people who threw the splitter would get hurt. Not all of them, just some of them. so, teams got scared of it and would make pitchers not throw it. It stresses the forearm which isn't the ligament however so at worst a forearm strain here and there. tommy john is caused by poor mechanics 99% of the time and stress 1%.
