Former MLB pitchers Dan Plesac, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz take to Studio 42 at MLB Network to discuss the importance of positioning on the mound on MLB Tonight

Dude, Pedro Martinez is such an iconic person. And this is coming from a life long Yankee from who’s from NY. Those Yankee vs. Red Sox games back in the early and mid 2000’s were LEGENDARY. You knew when Boston was coming to town and you knew which game Pedro was starting. There’s no greater feeling then being at old Yankee Stadium watching a Red Sox vs Yankees game and hearing the crowd boo the hell out of Pedro when his name is announced. The “Who’s Your Daddy?” chant still gives me chills whenever I think about it…
as a guy who didn't grow up somewhere near a baseball it's so fascinating to me how much thinking goes into every detail of this game. it's so interesting what the mlb network experts have to say - but also listening to current players like trevor bauer's vlog etc :-O
You just never think you will be able to live growing up to watch such a legend in his prime. I am so glad I was a Red Sox fan before he was there and then get the excitement when he came.
yea his arm or elbow is gonna blow up soon. its already starting. dude just keeps throwing harder and harder every year with the same body type its wild.
@@jamescarpenter855 yea degrom has a pocketed curveball he hasn’t used in a while that would be nasty in later years. Might also develop a cut fast ball
Pedro and Ramon Martinez even Pedro Astacio all had that what I call "The Dominican arm release" I was wondering if they were all taught by the same pitching coach back home growing up.
The old Dodgers pitching philosophy. Drop and drive and hook the rubber. Stripling and Kersh talked about Koufax showing them that too in a podcast that came out today. Although they couldn't replicate it.
I do remember those early Expos days where you were never sure if he was going to strike out the side or walk the bases loaded. Or start a fight.... One of my favorites ever.
Pedro learned it after signing as a free agent rookie with Dodgers, around 16 or 17 years old. Arod was born in USA, the typical bilingual who speaks Spanish at home and English at school. Those masters English better.
I am so lucky to have seen these guys pitch but I feel best being able to call plesac and Pedro phillies. Even for that short period of time they are still part of the Phillies family.
Smoltz, Pedro talking pitching technique's??? Are you f'ing kidding me??? I'd watch hours of watching & listening to there 2 LEGEND'S. Weirdest trade ever, in '87 the Tigers send minor leaguer Smoltz to the Braves for Doyle Alexander. Tigers win division on last day of season w/Alexander going 9-0 in 11 starts. Smoltz was okay too
I saw the other day a comparison between Jacob deGrom and Pedro and their numbers are quite similar, it means deGrom will go down as one of the best pitchers EVER.
They're astonishingly similar in terms of mechanics too, especially for two pitchers with such different body types. All deGrom needs to make it is to stay healthy and last, the quality is already there.
DeGrom isnt gonna last much longer I dont think. The little nagging injuroes are popling up. Where theres smoke theres fire. Hes Kyle Hendricks body type throwing 12-14 mph harder.....and keeps ADDING year by year. Its not sustainable. He got pulled just last night after being pulled again 2 starts before that after having other inflammation problems early in the year. You get inflammation, subconsciously change mechanics, then inflame some other new area.....next after that is the full blowout. Even though their mechanics are wildly different I cant help but think of Tim Lincecum and hope DeGrom ends better.
In little league, I would kick dirt on the mound and cover it up. Then stand a few feet in front of the mound. No one ever noticed. Didn't help much, my fastball was not exactly fast.
He should be held accountable for is his illegal racing only! Cameron spent 24 years in jail. Do you have any idea what will happen to him when he will get out of jail ?? The amount of sorrow in his heart for an accident that will stay in his brain forever Who said that two souls had gone in the accident ??, actually three souls had gone, Cameron died in that accident, now he is just a body his smile had been buried in that accident. This child had suffered a lot and he still suffering from all these things. So don't kill him again in this injustice, it's not fair please try to understand! This kid needs to help Anyone, me, you all of us we don't have a guaranty that we won't live like what Cameron lives and still live in. For me even for my enemy, I wouldn't wish something like this to him, please try to put yourself in Cameron's place and see what he is living! a circle of sorrow and sadness His heart won't be able to fight all this💔
Man it'd be hilarious if someone threw pedro a beer while demonstrating where he stands on the mound, shotgunned the beer, then whipped the beer at one of the others told them to f off, then left using continued profanity.
Pretty sure he’s going to say it depends on the hitters stance and what type of break he wants on a pitch. If you’re breaking in on the batter stand further away for the ball seems like it’s in the zone longer. If you’re breaking out stand in on him.
Pedro's fast ball intimidated any batter! On that mount, he brought many scarring moments to his opponents! Nobody knew what his next throw would be. He struckout thousands of batters and made them out of frustration cursed him out on their way to the dugout. A curve? A slider? A changeup or a fast ball? You guess...⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
Played t ball and baseball as a kid. Didn't like the high school baseball team and their general demeanor towards other people. I viewed it as a "clique" sport different from football, basketball, wrestlers, and the like. Instead of baseball I did track, and that shit sucked. This makes me wish I just played baseball and stayed in my lane, not feeding into the high school baseball douche bag persona.
MLB Network content is elite
I just wish they uploaded more than like one video a day
They rated Guerrero Jr. - who’s on track to winning triple crown 5th in top 25 players under 25. lol
Their content is shut
lol. Sometimes it’s elite until they start talking about chopping down on a baseball 😂😂😂
if Pedro talks, you listen
I’m learning that very quickly these days, Pedro has some great explanations and I love his confidence.
I don't
When I talk you listen or you won't be seeing
@@brandonmalone1893 woahhh tough guy here 😱😱😐
@@brandonmalone1893 please shut up ur not scaring anyone
Pedro is fantastic in these breakdowns
These MLB Network videos gives me a new found love on baseball. I appreciate all of these technicalities that go into being great.

Very interesting how different Smoltzy and Pedro were in their set position. Both RHP legends with entirely different philosophies.

Trevor has a good vlog but has been pretty quiet for the last week…
As someone who mostly watches basketball.... I LOVE these insights about baseball over the years on this show
Out of all the american sports MLB have the best analysis and breakdown teams on TV in my opinion
You just never think you will be able to live growing up to watch such a legend in his prime. I am so glad I was a Red Sox fan before he was there and then get the excitement when he came.
I don’t even play baseball but I could listen to Pedro talk about baseball all day lol
I cant wait another 5+ years, when Degrom retires and he is on MLB Tonight talking about pitching WITH PEDRO MARTINEZ wow
More than 5 years till he retires

@@danr154 nah, he started pitching in his 20s his arm had low mileage. He’s throwin harder cause his arm is stronger. I’d give him 6+ years

9:00 Man I love Pedro he just makes you smile lol.

Pedro saying balance sounded like Dusty Rhodes saying violence
Greatest thing I’ve seen in a long time. This is worth its weight in gold.

“If you had a couple starts that your command wasn’t clicking…”. I hate to break it to u, but I don’t think Pedro had to deal with that problem.
Pedro is the best I have seen. Amazing!!
I do remember those early Expos days where you were never sure if he was going to strike out the side or walk the bases loaded. Or start a fight....
One of my favorites ever.
Two legendary pitchers having two different approaches, goes to show...
Just see his size. Makes what he accomplished even more incredible.❤
Pedro talks I listen quietly...
Between this video and Pete rose’s video on where he stood in the box while batting ,is pure gold..
I love it. I can listen to this all night.
As an Cleveland Indians fan, I hated Smoltz and Pedro back in the day but they're great now. So much knowledge. Awesome!
Could listen to Pedro forever!!!
From a Yankee fan…Pedro was awesome!
I’m a simple guy if I see Pedro I click
As a pitcher i always admired pedro. He has such a huge arsenal of pitchs and all are nasty.
Pedro that guy... Pitching coach position please! An Smoltz listen these guys different breed
More this algorithms. This is gold! Saving this for my baseball playing son.
SIMPLY OUTSTANDING
this is exquisite
Great video
Epic.. exceptional.. idk the superlative to use..
Actual good advice on visualization of pitching
I wish the cast was smoltz, pedro and randy Johnson.
And David Ortiz
Not arguing, just want to hear your perspective on choosing between Smoltz and Maddux.
I could listen to them talk about the niches of pitching for hours
thanks, guys!!!!!
We're just missing Greg Maddux 😔
I've never seen pedro and Greg together. Talking about pitching. That'll be epic.
This show's being a great pitcher ain't just about throwing 100mph.
David Cone is the embodiment of this statement! Winning % of .600, ERA of 3.45 and lived his entire career below 90 MPH
Very rare that a Spanish first speaker that Pedro has a mastery of the English Language. Arod is another one.
Pedro learned it after signing as a free agent rookie with Dodgers, around 16 or 17 years old. Arod was born in USA, the typical bilingual who speaks Spanish at home and English at school. Those masters English better.

LOVE to see a great pitcher throw.

@@danr154 this is why I feel for him, he took a too team friendly contract, should’ve gone for a 10 year monster
Is Pedro's face getting smaller or is his head getting bigger? Maybe both? Still a fucking legend though; a small-faced legend.
It amazes me how the 3 of them just ralks baseball and yet it is still entertaining to watch 😂
Damn I laugh when Pedro tossed Don Zimmer across the field like a boiled egg

Smoltz. Nice shoes! I like it very much….
MORE PEDRO VIDEOS NOW!
Other sports should learn from MLB in terms of the coverage, it’s so much more informative and entertaining
I feel like every little leaguer needs to listen to this.

Learn from 2 of the best that ever done it

All the day went to pedros head when he retired lol
No matter where he stood he was short.
I wish he was Yankees manager
It must have been a very slow news day when this came out.

Pedro "Tiny Face" Martinez
Pedro is the goat but dam he look like a thumb bro
Yeah he left himself go all da weight went to his face

Want to speed up MLB ?? Move the mound up to where was in the 1970's and earlier. It is to low now.
