What about The Athlete Special with his blue jeans mile?
That was a real eye opener, it truly changed the way the blue jeans mile was run. Nothing short of legendary and, in my opinion, puts Spencer on the same level as Bekele, Kipchoge, Bolt etc.
Random Guy 100%!!
Facts
lol, it got broken so quick XD
⁸.
The whole thing with Bob Beamon - the way they didn’t even have enough tape to measure how far he jumped and how he collapsed when he found out the distance is just so legendary. I’m so glad it’s number one.
Me too. I watched it on live TV. Wow!
FFS. This occurred at altitude. People underestimate how much that matters. The air is so thin there you literally float. The Greatest achievement is Bolt. Head wind, and smashed the world record. Or Matt Shirvington running 10.03 in the commonwealth games in 1998 as a white kid against black men and came 4th. Truly extraordinary. More impressive than any black athletes' achievements for sure.
M M bolt had a tailwind when he did the 9.58. But def still a good argument for Bolt to be top. But to say the other guy’s 4th place race is a great achievement just because he’s white is ridiculous. No one has even heard of that guy.
@@madams989 Lol fuck off, this guy's achievement is so extraordinary it beggars belief. You haven't heard of it because you are someone who sniffs your own farts. The only reason this man achieved what he did as the fastest white man in history at the age of 19 is because he had the Australian flag on his chest. You will never know what that means. But my suggestion is to just acknowledge that you are inferior. That's probably the safest option.
Carl Lewis after winning 50 plus straight long jump competitions and jumping over 8.85 meters in three jumps that day gets beat by Mike Powell who breaks the world record at 8.95 is right up there. The expression on Lewis' face is priceless
"Illegal Wind" is the wildest phrase I've ever heard
Lol I was thinking the same. As if the runner has a switch to turn on a high powered fan behind them.
😂😂😂
@@darklordojeda No but records can't stand if the wind is to much. Likewise if the record is set at altitude.
I thought that was when you farted in a cops face and the arrest you for assaulting an officer (which they can do btw)
@@darklordojedap?
Bob Beamon's jump was by far, the greatest shattering of a record in track and field history. I totally agree!
And probably the last 'clean' record.
UMMMM you do know that record was broken right?
@@motorcyclesarecool1236 Yes, of course, but the time it was considered the greatest achievement ever in track and field.
Not sure I agree with this one....this was set at altitude at a meet where there were a host of world records that were also obliterated
Motorcyclesarecool 123 not as an Olympic Record.
I would have had Bubka in the list - entering the scene when the record was in the 5.80s and pushing it eventually all the way to 6.15...
Yesssssssssss.
Ya...Sergei Bubka is a legendary in poll vault👍
I agree about Bubka! One of the most dominant track and field athletes ever! Let's see how far Mondo Duplantis will take this sport into the future! 6.17 m as a 20 year old! My goodness!
But all Bubka's best performances were in closed training sessions - where claimed to have jumped over 6.25m several times. How can you praise a performance, when the performer boasts that it is far from his best?
@@JimmyOlsson Mondo is a great jumper and owns the WR.....but you still have to take into account that the top poles today are quite a bit superior to those of S.Bubka. He was a physical monster.
Van Niekerk broke the WR and made sub 43 seem like a real possibility in an Olympic final. From lane 8. Running totally blind to the competition. Pretty legendary.
Andre EXACTLY
Not as legendary as almost jumping 9 fucking metres or flo jo's perfect run
Exactly! Thank you!
@@y-rokenjnr6157....well that's why Beamon's record is the greatest....he did almost HALF the distance of the triple jump...in one spectacular jump!
@@THE_HMRC AMEN!!
Edwin Moses 400mH 47.02 time held for years and dominant 4 over a decade
Ed Moses should have been in the top 10
Moses' WR of 47.02 would win all Olympic finals except for 1992.
@mksrookies over 12 year he never lost! that should be number two on the list.
Kevin youngs wr in the same event still stands, 30 yrs laters, so surely by definition that is much better. They were both on roids.
I thought so too...
The most dominant track and field performance of all time came in 1935 when J.C. Owens of Ohio State broke three world records and tied a fourth in less than an hour. That hour needed to be mentioned somewhere in this video.
Oh yeah im actually shocke his records didnt come here
The maker of this video is a nazi
@@killionaire6891 Because he wasn't listed that way in the official results.
He’s my great great cousin ✊🏾 I’m glad you got his name right!
McSkeetah TheCheetoCheetah his actual name is JC Owens but he had a thick southern accent and so in school his teachers thought he was saying “Jesse” and of stuck
Agree with number one; it was the only track and field accomplishment that made front page news--and track never makes the front page
Except for maybe when Usain Bolt first broke the 100m world record
No, Zatopek made the front page many times.
I remember reading the Sports Illustrated article about that feat. It talked about how slowly and incrementally the long jump record changed, by inches at a time, and then Beamon broke it by almost two feet. They said he took off in 1968 and landed in the 21st Century. For some reason, those words and that imagery have stayed with me all these years.
I completely agree with your number one pick. It still amazes me to think about it!
Total Running Productions is a legendary impact on Track and Field. GOAT 🙏🏻
I specifically clicked on this video to make sure Bob Beamon was #1
Me, too!
Same
You too, huh?
I love watching Bob Beamon's jump 🤩
I saw an analysis once that said that Beamon was able to achieve his jump because he took off at an almost 45° angle. Most long jumpers take off a lot shallower, and aren’t able to maximize their jumps.
Totally agree... And I watched it live, when I was on the track team in college. It was amazing then and it still looks amazing now. I remember him collapsing after finding out the distance.
Not to mention his "walk" back after the jump. Legendary. Almost better than the jump itself.
One of the greatest feats in sports, not just track and field!
It was at altitude people. Calm down... still the highest Olympic Games ever...
I agree with number 1, but I think FloJo's 100 m deserves a place on this list. 31 years later and it still stands today, that's dominant.
Eli S. 💉
💉
Flo Jo's 200m WR 21:34 Still Stands as Well.
In berlin 2009 100 final, the wind was +0.9. thats not a headwind.
I was getting worried about not seeing Bob on that list. He deserves that top spot.
I would add Bolt's 200m of 19.19 seconds somewhere in there.
@@englishman1960 its way better than the hundred from 19.30-19.19!?
He beat the wr by point 1 of a second and so far has been held for 10 years. Not even remotely impressive compared to these
@@englishman1960 the fact that his 200m is .03 slower than twice the 100m time makes it even more impressive
I thought Johnson's record of 19.32 was more impressive. He was in totally uncharted territory. Nobody will improve the 200m record by that much again (0.34 secs)
and Jamaica relay world record
Abebe Bikila winning the marathon, in 1960, Barefooted.
Never knew this was a world record as well, nice addition! And worthy of at least an honorable mention of course.
And the win was a world record
Abebe won the 1964 Olympic gold medal , barefoot, again.
I think he wore shoes, in 1964.
@@shinysidedown9090 Correct. How about Felix Carvajal? He was a poor mailman in cuba who announced that he would run in the 1904 Olympics in st Louis. He put on running exhibitions to raise enough to get him a steamer ride to New Orleans, where he gambled away all his money. He had 677 miles to go. So he RAN it (mostly), arriving in street clothes at the stadium about an hour before the race. They cut his pants down to shorts. Then he began to run the marathon...and came in 4th. Now THAT's an achievement...Here is the Wikipedia spin on it, which adds some details that seem unbelievable.....en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andar%C3%ADn_Carvajal
Your no.1 pick is correct. Beamon leaping over 29 feet when everyone else in history had not even reached 28 feet??....and during the Olympics for the world to see?.....Legendary indeed.
El G 1500m and Mile records, both still standing after 20 years!
SunsetNova check out his 2000m WR. Many experts consider that to be his finest WR.
@@fcdphilly 3:44 mile*
Allowing one minute for each lap minus 20 seconds, which some people say is the limit to which men can run, El G is pushing the limit of what is humanly possible.
The hardest WR to beat is on the 3000m by Komen, many athletes try but not.
jesse owen's long jump world record lasted 25 years
Perfect list! Thanks
I think one athlete worth mentioning, even as an honorable mention, is Alberto Juantorena's performance at the 1972 Summer Olympics. He won both the 400 and 800 meters and in winning the 800, set a new world record and upset America's Rick Wohlhuter, who was favored in the event. The significance of the win is that Juantorena was the first runner in Olympic history to perform this double, moving up from the sprint distance of 400 meters to, what was considered, a middle distance specialty.
Come on, Stefka Kostadinova doesn't even deserve a honorable mention? I mean her world record at high jump is unbeaten since 1987
Was about to say that.I am Bulgarian and we are really proud of it.Expected to see it here, but seems like I was ahead of myself.
Every female WR set in the 1980's by Eastern Bloc athletes was drug assisted. Every Eastern Bloc country had a state supported drug program for it's top athletes. It's no secret anymore. There is lots of testimony and evidence from people who were in involved as coaches, athletes and administrators. None of those performances should even count as world records. If we did count them all then her HJ record would deserve some mention although someone has jumped within 1 cm of it so it's not as dominant as some of the other long standing records.
@peter s Give any drug, to any woman, in any era - and they will stil not beat Kostadinova's record, ya dig..?
@@peters6119 It's easy as a fart to blame only the eastern bloc which does not exist any longer... Maybe true maybe not but Kostadinova is still alive and active in the ministry of sports of BG government. How about Florence Griffith Joyner of USA whose name finds it's place in the honorable mentions.
@@peters6119 "None of those performances should even count as world records"
Nor should Flo Jo's, but they got a mention.
Kenya now officially holds all full and half marathon world records.

The last two years have been Legendary in terms of world records, especially for women. Please make a video about them!! This season with Thompson Hera, Amusan, McLaughlin, Rojas... A lot has happened and it was BEAUTIFUL!
I like the way you put in all those juiced performances
Michael Johnson's 19.32 is a crucial omission. It is easily one of the most talked about olympic moments in track and field.
Daniel Komen's 7:20 3000M time in 1996 is untouchable.
In berlin 2009 100 final, the wind was +0.9. thats not a headwind.
GREAT STUFF THANK YOU !!!
Absolutely agree on #1. Shattered everything at the time, and decades before it was broken
One thing you forgot to mention here. Bob Beamon broke the existing world record by 6.59%, the greatest world record improvement in history. It wasn’t just a great jump. It was the greatest athletic performance in human history!
As. Young boy I witnessed Bob Beamon’s world record . I will never forget how high he was . The wait after took ages .
We all knew it was something very special .
Wonderful video good information well done keep it up
I'm glad you put Beamon no.1. I remember seeing that jump on television and seeing the 8.90 come up: I thought that couldn't be what he jumped, it must be his bib number. I didn't know exactly how far it was, but it was a long way past the 8.35 that was the world record. But what about Uwe Hohn? They had to change the implement after that.
"sights are set on the 2020 Olympics" this aged well
Right
sights are...well manipulated by over response to a virus. I think athletes would probably have been ok to compete with their health being so strong, but it would have to been done without the fans. So really they canceled the Olympics mainly due to not being able to make money off the fans. A lot of athletes were ready to compete and were denied.
What about Emil Zatopek winning gold in the 5K, 10K and, running it for the first time, the marathon in the 1952 Olympics. Unbelievable!
I am so proud of my girl!!!!! Run for Ethiopia 🇪🇹🇪🇹. Love from Australia
Great List! Heres mine - running events only

2. Wilson Kipketer - 800m (Indoors) 1:42.67
3. Daniel Komen - 3000m 7:20.67
4. Bolt - 100m 9.69 Beijing

6. Van Niekerk - 400m 43.03
7. Paula Radcliffe - Marathon 2:15:25
8. Flo Jo - 100m 10.49
9. Junxia Wang - 3000m 8:06.11
10. Rudisha - 800m 1:40.91

Flo Jo - 200m 21:34 shouldn't be overlooked. No one's come close since>1988.
Legend, wait for it...Dairy. Legendary!
The 7:58 two-mile by Daniel Komen??? Definitely deserves a top 5 spot. Amazing video though, nice work 👌🏼
Agree with the number one list!!
Imagine holding 27 spots in the top 30 across the world and here i am, watching yt 24/7
8 ft high jump...most amazing!
Marita Koch 47.60seg. 400m. 6-Oct-1985 in Camberra.
Stefka Kostadinova 2.09m high jump women. 30-Ago-1987 in Roma.
Galina Chistiakova 7.52m long jump women. 11-jun-1988 in Leningrado.
For me these records are more legendary than two or three of your list. Greetings from México.
I don't know much about jumps but 47.60 is INSANE. World Champs or Olympics are generally won with a 49, sometimes a low 50 is enough. 48s are SUPER rare, as an example there was a gap from 2010 to 2017 where not a single 48 second time was run (between Sanya Richards-Ross' 48.83 in Brussels 2009 to Shaunae Miller-Uibo's 48.97 in 2018). These are high 48s, a high 48 is sometimes once in a decade, there are only 6 athletes under 48.50 ever and Marita is 47 MID, like wtf?!
@@richardgallimore5976¡ Hello Richard! thanks for your answer. 34 years and nobody breaks that record, unbelievable. Greetings from México.

I fully agree with your Number 1 pick.
Bob Bemon seemed like his knees damn near hit his chest. Dude was a beast
What about Kenenisas's 5,000 and 10,000m? Definitely they deserved a mention
Had they been run in the Olympics or the worlds unaided by pacesetters, they would have been extraordinary.
They are just fractionally better than Heile's and Komen's times.
@@kiswahilikitukuzwe2547 the records were done with pacemakers?
In my opinion bekele’s 10 000m is the number 1. I think no one will never beat it because now if you run 30-40 sec slower its a CRAZY time!
@@hydroaarnukka9092 I thought the same for a long time. But this year Cheptegei might challange that. He just beat Bekele's 5000 m record and aims for the 10,000 m as well.

I would have put 100M 10:49 and 200M 21:34 World Records by Florence Griffith Joyner 1988 Seoul Olympics as the most Iconic. No woman has ever come near them and to mention, her upright thrust running style is what every today coach is teaching. This clearly shows that the Late Flojo was way ahead of her time.

Your videos, the beauty of your narrative based on well founded recollection of athletics events are brilliant to admire. As a fanatic of any athletic events and records, I suggest you to consider by putting the Sotomayor’s recorded as a number one because I don’t think anyone can overpasses 2:45m Since Sotomayor’s, cubans call him “Saltamayor”, which means “ higher jumper “(most definitely making the assumption no one can break his record) 2:39m has been even the hardest high for Olympic gold and glory. When Sotomayor’s record can be broken? Well, the frog having wings to fly, never!

Mind blowing.....❤️🔥🎉👍
It would be nice to have Bubka on the list. Measurements are often confusing to people of different cultures but the imperial 20ft and the metric 6m are both nice round numbers and close enough to one another to get everyone's attention. A 20ft/6m jump with naught but a pole is all but unimaginable. An interesting exercise is to hang a tape measure out of a window to illustrate just exactly how high 20 ft/6m really is. I do it from time to time to the shock and awe of anyone present. I now look forward to watching young Armand “Mondo” Duplantis' progress.
Daniel komen's 2 miles should be here.....each mile's under 4 min finished 7:58 minutes in 1997.
No, he didn't show his full potential in that race, he ran a 7 min 20s for the 3000m so he was able to run 7 min 50s for the 2 miles. But maybe his 3000m record should be in that list because it is really huge.
@@aua6330 still, Komen ran under 8 mins, twice. But ya, the 3,000 record is a freak of a record, much better than Beman's back in 1968. To me, it is by far the best record in the books.
@@denisdaly1708 it has been said in another video that Komen's 3000m time is the best record of the lot
@@denisdaly1708 Actually I believe D.Komen´s indoor -WR 7:24,90 for the 3000m has been bettered outdoors only by himself and the great Hicham El Guerrouj 7:23,09

Ticks me off when you keep ignoring Daniel Komen . The man was a legend. Is a legend. Your matrix is wrong you concentrate of % when in fact it should be length of time the record has stood together with how close a competitor has come since the record. Ie the chances of the record being broken in the near future. Plus ignore Eastern bloke records some of the women probably had dicks .
I would be so excited to have this but highschool records.
I like how this is genuine, and not purposely stretched to 10 minutes to get money.
Correction to 4, Usain Bolt had a tailwind of +0.9m/s, it's his 200m world record of 19.19s that was against a headwind of -0.3m/s. Yohan Blake ran the fastest headwind 100m time with 9.69s with -0.1m/s.
i agree with your no.1 but i would have a tie with Flo Jo
In my heart, Liu Xiang is one of best world record in my heart
Agreed, one of the greatest performances of all time.

Well, I am an old chap so for me the 1954 Roger Bannister sub 4 minute mile result was a wonderful achievement. I still remember the last lap and the excitement in the crowd.
On dirt track, terrible running shoes, hand timed.
And Daniel komen ran that back to back

Wow come on where Kenenisa Bekele he was a legend in the 5000 m and 10000 m
Those two world records were not run in the Olympics or world championships where they do not use pacesetters. Henry Rono broke four world records in four different distances surpasses both the 5000 m and 10000 m !doubles by either Haile Gebreselassie and Kenenisa Bekele.
In the summer of 1978 in a stretch of 81 days, Henry Rono of Kenya broke his records without pacesetters! In the 81 days stretch of the summer of 1978 Henry Rono of Kenya while a Sophomore at the Washington State University broke the world records in 5,000 m, 3,000 m Steeplechase, 10,000 m, and 3,000 m in that order. None of the records used any pace setters.
It can be remembered that Henry Rono was denied to showcase his incredible form to the world i n long distance running due to two Olympic boycotts. In 1976 the Kenyan Olympic team that included the great Henry Rono had already arrived in Edmonton, Canada for the Olympics only for the entire African continent to at the games to be recalled to boycott the Olympics due to sporting contacts with apartheid South Africa. In 1980 Moscow Olympics, Kenya joined yet another Olympics in a row led by the United States protesting the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. Henry Rono was completely devastated by this second boycott by Kenya.
as good as keni is he "only" improved on hailes world records 2 seconds in the 5000 and i think 5 seconds in the 10.000. this is not as earth-shattering as most of this records
Kiswahili Kitukuzwe 254 who cares bekele is faster than him
@@michaelaminov9880 The compiler of this of top 10 cares and that's why he took his time to make a video. Even the great El Guerrouj is not on the list due to that reason, I believe.
Jackie Joyner’s Heptathlon

Thanks for showing "Pre".. Steve Prefontain.
Flo Jo should have been more than an honorable mention. I believe he record still holds.
The high jump and long jump are mad.
Stefka Kostadinova's record is more impressive than Javier's one, not to mention it is the third oldest one in track and field.
She may or may not have been using PED's and Sotomayor's record is just so incredible for it not to be on the list. I still can't get over the fact that a human has leaped over 8 feet
Bubka wasn't too shabby himself. He went 6m in 85'. Without anybody to push him competitively he raised that to over 6m14. And he dominated for over 2 decades arguably. Please recognize Mondo if he happens to raise the bar over the WR this Oly year? Great channel!! Makes me feel a bit old though, probably cuz I am.
I knew Bob Beamon's jump was going to be number 1. Hicham El Guerrouj deserves to be on this list with both his 1500 meter record and mile record which have stood 21 and 20 years now. 1998 and 1999. In terms of feats, I think we should always remember the great Jim Thorpe who won both the Decathlon and Pentathlon in the 1912 Olympics. Eric Heiden won the 500, 1000, 1500, 5000 and 10,000 meters speed skating in a single Olympics in 1980.
jesse owens' long jump lasted 25 years if longevity is to be the measure. We run into problem with the ladies records from the 80s using that standard of course.

Flo Jo , nierkerk 43.03 are honorable mentions? No dude ... Men 400m hurdles Kevin young??
I agree with you... Flo Jo? Just honorable mention? Nah! For one, TRP''s #1 Beamon was eventually broken by Powell... so, Beamon should be just #2 or 3... #1 should be Florence Griffith Joyner... From the 1988 Seoul Olympics until today, 2019, Joyner's records in both 100M (10.49sec) and 200M (21.34sec) remained unbeaten... and the way she ran those distances remained unmatched and unbeaten until this day... Florence Griffith Joyner's records are the most fascinating and iconic! Her form was jaw dropping effective. Her bold and vibrant outfits made her even more spectacular.
There are a lot of doubters who malign her with their speculations and stupidity, as they have absolutely no proof about use of performance enhancing drugs.
It is funny to see how doubters of Florence clean career and records are malign, speculators and stupid, while doubting how some East German athletes (Marita Koch for instance) is reasonable. Florence Griffith was a good athlete. Very good actually, but not impressive to win Olympic Games or World Championships. Suddenly she explode and once the IAAF announced random drug tests she stopped her career. @@sinsin1697 All the Eastern Europe athletes passed every drug testing made... Do you think they were clean? I don´t. And because I don´t believe in miracles, I really think that in one point of her life, surrounded by people involved in drugs abuse, her perfomance dramatically changed. Her best time in the 100 meters prior to 1988 was relatively modest 10.96, currently the 509th best time ever. In the 200, her best before 1988 had been 21.96, now the 75th best time ever. Both of these times were from 1987. Going back further, her performances had garnered a silver medal in 200 meters in the 1984 Games, but her times were not remarkable. In the 100 meters, her best time before 1987 is now the 704th best time ever. Suddenly she made an incredible progress. Training? Drugs? Again, I do not believe in miracles

Men’s 1500m should be on the list
Good sir, Bannister went 4:07 in 54'. He did break 4 at the Commonwealth games I believe.
Florance Grifith Joyner, Sergey Bubka, Yelena Isınbaeva, Husein Bolt (200m - 19.19). These should be added into Top 10 according to me. Anyway, good video, respect...
Her name is Gabriele Reinsch, not "Gebreile". Also, she is from Eastern Germany, which makes the record look doubtful.
His name is.............................
Like flo Jo you mean lmfaooo
@@loco4731 This is not how you talk to people. Get help.
@@paulmay68 Sadly, yes. There's no question Flo Jo cheated. From 1987 to 1988 she drastically dropped best times like it was the easiest thing to do. Reminiscent of the East Germans from 1972 to 1976. Completely different team altogether!
Nefertari Meritmut Nice picture you’re a very handsome man
Griffith-Joiner by far the most impressive it will stand forever.
I'm going to have to totally agree with you..... She ran no female has run 10.49 no female has run 10.5 no female has run 10.6.. Flo-Jo was a goddess. Big facts 💯
Yep, she was the greatest roid runner of all time...

Bob Beamon Nr. 1? I agree with your list!
Bob Beamon was my very first thought! The eastern block people...have a hard ti,e taking serious
Florence Griffith Joyner 100 m must be top 10
She was clearly juiced that year. Her records should have never been allowed. She was a decent sprinter up till 88, then just took off. I am very glad she is not on this list.
Mr. Pokey
But her samples were examined several times afterwards and they never find anything illegal. Trouth is that she work much harder then before and unlarge leg muscles. Her colleagues witnessed about that
@@GBU61 tell me what drugs she was on specifically by name..... Since you were fucking psychic.....
@@cozybear692001 even her autopsy cleared her of any suspicion this shit is crazy....
About number 4: Usain Bolt had a tailwind of +0.9 m/s. It's Yohan Blake who had a headwind of -0.1 m/s in his 9.69s performance. This is a mistake which should be corrected.
when I heard this, it didnt sounds right to me. Thanks
Jan Zelezný - absolut wow!.He trow it to any space! :)
The german Vetter came closer than 94 M.
In 2020 just missing 0,7 m to the world record.
@@hubertkraft2218 Haha, He trow one time with this thype of Javelin and trow record, they banned it right away. now it's allowed again.Zelezný trow many time over 90 and with his big injurys is he three time olympic champion....
no question about the #1 moment. A performance that produces a feeling of incredulity.
In my view, Bekele's 5000m world record, El G's 1500m, Almaz Ayana's10k world record should have been part of top 5
Bekele records are just a smidgen ahead oh Gebresellaai and Komen, and Gebresellaai. Nope.
@@denisdaly1708 el guerrouj records are harder to break than Bekele's
I do agree wth Beamon the no 1 but I think Usain Bolt shd b on top considering nit just the world records in 100m, 200m, 4x100m but he won them in 3 Olympics consecutively!!! (no other sprinters had done that) & Flojo shd b on the list coz the 100m women record 10.49 still unbreakable since 1988 till now!!!
Flo Jo's 21:34 200m WR Still Stands Formidable...
willie banks went over 18m wind assisted... but a great list. i cant think of any that i would change - well maybe 1. You certainly got number 1 correct! I particularly appreciated learning about the polish hammer thrower - as i'd never heard of her before. If you go by the percent improvement argument I guess you have to say Jackie Joyner Kersey / heptathelon is the best - assuming she was clean (and ive never heard her name mentioned). At the time she set it she was 4.7% ahead of the next best - and even today over 30 years later she is still 3.4% better than catolina kluft. The record in your list least deserving of being there would have to be Roger Bannister. Yes it was iconic and famous and will always remain so - but it was only a second or so faster than the existing (admittedly 10 year old) record and his record was broken not very long afterwards.
Entertaining video
would have thought John Walkers first sub 3.50 mile would have at least an honorable mention, ushered in the era of the magic mile.
