      Alex is the air intake safe to use or is it exposed to water if rain or water on roads?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 2 lety +1

      @@tpharo34 Hi Tim! Typical cold air filters are open instead of enclosed like the OEM was. You can see where I start to install it how the OEM one looks vs the new one. Normally the engine bay does not see water inside that area that easily however this would depend on the area you live in, how deep the water is, how strong the wind and rain, how fast the car is going when it hits the water is etc. One way you can get an idea if your engine bay sees water or rain is to open the hood and visually looks for signs of water or rain droplets, that way you can confirm if any water gets in there normally or if it's stays pretty dry. Hope that makes sense bud!

    That weird thing at 12:40 that you say you do, is really a thing. It's called clocking. Electricians, after working on an outlet, or other electrical gear, will turn their slots to 12, 3, 6 or 9 to leave their invisible signature. That way they know when their work has been changed or tampered with. An electrician showed me on a four screw outlet. his personal code was the first screw turned to 3 o'clock and the other 3 turned to 6 o'clock. You're pretty clever, so I bet you already knew that. Also works when a new mechanic tells you he did such and such, on your car and you've clocked clamps and screws on your car with your special code. You can tell at a glance, if he replaced a filter or never touched the housing that holds the filter.

      @AlexAutoFun  Před rokem +1

      Hi Brian! Congrats on your new intake! I still get a kick of mine and how much it changed the sound of the car. I haven't tried any TB spacers or exhaust but usually the gains with them are minimal like the CAI unless you get the car tuned after you have all your powertrain upgrades installed, then the tuner can get as aggressive as you want in the tune to extract as much power as possible. Hope this helps, Cheers!

    Nice and concise! I put one on my 2020 XSE hatch last summer. I agree, not a huge difference, but I still like the sound I got! I feel like for the first few months I got slightly decreased throttle response though. When I first got the car it was a rocket and could zip out into traffic with ease. Afterwards I felt just a little hesitation when trying to zip out onto the road. Could that be a possibility, or was I just psyching myself out?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 2 lety +5

      Hi GrizDrummer25! yeah I really like how mine completely changed the way car sounds. I didn't feel a slower start from a dig, but technically it is possible that may be happening as cold air intakes (short ones like this one) trade low end torque for more power in higher rpms. While I prefer short ones, you could go for a full length cold air intake, it will increase torque on low end but at the expense of power at the top end. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching bud!

    • @coachgomes
      @coachgomes Před 11 měsíci

      That's disappointing that this cold air-intake lost low end torque. I want to get a newer Toyota Corolla and I love to do everything possible to give the car more power and torque. So, buy todays date, GrizDrummer25, do you still have the Cold Air-Intake installed on your Corolla, or did you got back to the Factory Air-Box OEM air-box...???

    Great video. I've been thinking of getting CAI but idk what brand to get. Either TRD intake or an aftermarket one like the INJEN. Since the INJEN is under the hood and not much of the outside air is coming in. Would it make sense to get a vented hood? Since it is kinda getting the hot air still in the engine bay. I'm just trying to understand and learn more about my 21 HB.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hi Kevin! I think go for TRD if u want a more OEM look or go for Injen if you want to add some bling underneath your hood and a louder sound. But yes ultimately if u want to get cold air you will want to have a CAI that routes air from the outside. Based on the GR Corolla, a vented front grill and a vented hood would be beneficial (but the counter argument is that the GR needs that extra cooling due to the turbocharged engine, where the normal E210 is NA and overcooling can also be an issue). Cheers!

I would wait to see what the confirmed specs on the GR Corolla will be as there is some speculation still before you pull the trigger on any big modifications. I'm going to stick with bolt on's as well for right now. Also give you time to think about your build in terms of what you are looking to do with the car. If your goal is a fast 0-60 then the mods you want will be different that if you plan on tracking your car. But yeah I'm excited to see what we get with the upcoming GR!

    A quick question does the intake void the warranty on a rolla 22 se?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 2 lety

      Hi Adrian! that's a good question (often a debated one) supposedly the law prevents them from denying warranty if someone added something to their car or worked on their own car as long as whatever was added or the work that was done was not the cause of the failure. So let's say you put window tint on your car and your transmission fails, dealer can't deny it because they film or install did not affect the transmission. But as simple as that sounds, here is the kicker, we heard horror stories of dealers not honoring warranty if they saw a modification claiming it is what led to the failure. Some owners have taken them to court or complained directly to manufacturer and since most of the time they can't prove the mod caused the failure the dealer accepted to fix it. So I guess is on a case by case basis man. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching!

      Hi BPx4! I think you can't go with with either one (specially if you are going to eventually get both), the intake does have a lower entry cost point (about half the price of an intake) Regarding gains with a tune, it really depends on how aggressive your tuner will go on the tune (including what octane you choose to use for the new tune) by typically about 15-20hp is what we seen in average. Hi Dan! Your mechanic is likely going to use either a breaker bar and/or a penetrating spray like PB Blaster to loosen a stuck bolt. If you get a engine light best thing would be to pull the code with an OBD scanner before any more dash lights come on to see what the code is, if it is in fact a computer going bad you may still be under warranty. If the code is related to anything else, then it can be traced to what is causing it (I'm thinking a loose connector or something that was disconnected or wiggled loose while installing the intake) but only the code can confirm. However as I mentioned the sound totally changes the car as far as making it feel sporty and yes it does feels slightly faster and more responsive (which without a dyno reading, is likely the placebo effect by the new sound). • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you for the sub MR BRUT3! I got plenty of cool content coming, welcome aboard! Regarding warranty, that's a good question, often a debated one, supposedly the law prevents them from denying warranty if someone added something to their car or worked on their own car as long as whatever was added or the work that was done was not the cause of the failure. So I guess is on a case by case basis man, but honestly, I would say the only way not to get hassled by dealer if you want to keep your warranty intact is not to modify your car at all and all service to be done by dealer (which kind of sucks lol). I personally always mods my cars and service my own cars so it more of a personal preference. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      I used to work for the dealership for many years. and if you have any non oem equipment then you are taking a chance of voiding a warranty some dealerships would say that it only voids that portion of the car other dealerships will say it voids the complete car's warranty. the best thing to do is to keep your oem parts and then if you have any warranty claims you can just put the oem parts back on and you will have no issues cause they wont know that you used to have an non oem parts on the car. if you have added warranties you have to follow the contract that you bought some are very strict.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před rokem +1

      Hi The Mad Villain! ah remember cold air intakes doe not produce heat. The heat you feel in the engine bay is coming from the actual engine and it's systems such as the AC. I think what you mean is does the intake get hot? The Injen Intake is made out of 6061-T6 Aluminum which like all metals can conduct heat. Some aftermarket systems use plastic instead of metal for their intakes (similar to the OEM plastic intake) the idea is that the plastic tube is not going to get as hot (conduct temperature) as metal ones. Which makes sense, so I think it comes down to what you want in your car, pure performance (plastic to reduce heat transfer as much as possible) or a combination of performance and looks with polished metal finish or like mine in pearl black. There are a few companies that will paint plastic intakes too if you want a nice engine bay but it's not that common (the alternative would be to paint it DYI) Hope this helps. Cheers!

Here is a machine I use to check for leaks czcams.com/video/xxXvQGZWpTs/video.html comes in handy when doing maintenance on the car, when changing a part (related to the intake) and when troubleshooting. Cheers!

      Hi Alex! Unfortunately we do not have a CARB approved intake for the E210 yet. This is typical in the industry (CARB certification is very expensive), aftermarket parts are typically not CARB when the car model is fairly new and there is not enough demand for it (not enough cars on the road that have aged that require smog) Once that happens we typically see aftermarket parts with CARB approval (historically K&N seems to be the 1st on pursuing it). Hope this helps, Cheers!

    After about 6 months with this on my car....... only 16,000 miles on it... causing my sensors to go haywire and actually causing malfunctions. @AlexAutoFun  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi masterlogray! Oh man you got two different issues here lol I'm at around the same miles as yours and no issues or sensors going haywire on mine. I would strongly recommend taking it back to your installer, they may have botched something during the install (check to see what DTCs have been set). Regarding the GR I would not recommend you go for it man if you consider the E210 being for 70-80yrs olds, the GR is on another lever but still based on the E210 platform so quality or mod issues you have right now will likely also be there on the GR...

    • @masterlogray
      @masterlogray Před 2 lety

      @@AlexAutoFun yeah exactly. Plus toyota has really dropped the ball on dependability in recent years. I owned a 2012 carry and it ran like a champ with no issues for 200,000 miles. I stuck with toyota and all I've gotten was issues. I also highly doubt we botched the install. My dad's been a mechanic for over 40 years and still goes to school every year to stay updated on all the new technology. He said it's most likely something really dumb that's just another issue that computers in cars proves isn't always the best. Oh well I'll let the dealer deal with it. I just don't like the throttle lag in the e210.... it feels like they went out of their way to NOT make it sporty.

      @@masterlogray Oh I got you, I thought you had it installed (installers typically warranty their job so it normally easy to just go back to them) but yeah I did same as you and install it myself. Wow man that sucks man, this is only my 2nd Toyota, have you tried other brands? I have several brands under my garage so it's interesting to see the different approaches each manufacturer does for their cars. But yeah the stock E210 was tuned for maximum efficiency with a hint of sportiness. I would suggest a Focus ST if you want to stay with a hatchback or maybe muscle car? not sure what type of car you are into or what the primary use of it would be, are you looking to a car to track, race at the drag strip or daily driver...

    • @masterlogray
      @masterlogray Před 2 lety

      @@AlexAutoFun I've had a neon srt and it was fun but constantly having issues (dodges ... enough said). I'm honestly just looking for a daily driver and a little bit of that get up when I need it. Usually an intake alone isn't a bad upgrade since (while debatable) I've always manages to see an improvement in fuel efficiency. From what I've read online the newer Toyota have had the same drive control start malfunction issue so honestly not even sure now that the intake even had anything to do with it. Seems like it's either a short somewhere or a transmission issue. My cousin had an ae86 I used to take out and drive here and there and it seemed like the toyotas back then were built to last with hardly any complications. .... these computers basically added so much frustration to having a car.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Shaylesety! there is a relation between torque and horsepower that is affected by changing your intake. Typically what I seen is that full length cold air intakes that go all the way to your fender will slightly increase torque at the expense of HP. Short ram intakes like this Injen have the opposite effect, you gain some HP and loose some torque. Now as you pointed out, the gains will be most apparent at higher RPMs. Now while I don't drive my car at the track needing to redline the car, I still it find it a lot more enjoyable with the additional sound and the slight gain if I do need to floor it. I may do a full length cold air intake, while it's typically more expensive, it would be neat for comparison purposes (I may also do the TRD box just need to piece that kit together) Stay tuned bud!...
