    I've got several felt Stetson cowboy hats. I thought I was committing a cardinal sin by using my steam iron, lol! I am glad to see that I wasn't. I also have some kitchen devices that provide a good amount of steam. I reshaped the crown on a 7x Stetson that I bought second hand from a pinch front to a cattleman's crease, and the crown came out perfect. Unfortunately, shaping the brims is much more challenging for me to arrive at a shape I can live with, but, the beauty is, if I don't like it, I can go at it again. Great video, thanks!

    Just watched your video, realise it is from a while ago, I am in the UK and have a Spur Western Wear Beaver Brand 5x hat with a domed crown and I am fairly sure the brim is supposed to be completely flat in style. Watching you it looks like I can Steam Iron it back flat then brush it to remove the Iron marks. What I am wondering is, what is the surface you are Ironing on, is it something special or is it quite like an Ironing Board? I am willing to give it a go myself, however there are not many shops in the UK that could fix it if I get it wrong 🙂

    • @AmericanHatMakers
      @AmericanHatMakers  Před 7 měsíci

      If you're trying to get the brim as flat as possible, you'll want to make sure your surface is stiff so you don't get any waviness in it. The good news is, you can shape your hat however you want to. We just had someone get a pencil rim from us and had it shaped into a beautiful style. czcams.com/users/shortsq2p-_69YhUM?si=nYsHB1RQ_1ZxaO5z

I understand that things were done fast to give us an exemple on how to do it but how would you go about curling up the brim nicely because in your video the brim has waves in it from your fingers, I had the same problem at home. I don’t get a nice uniform shape if you know what I mean. Should I roll the brim against a flat surface? Also this Jesse navy blue hat is 100% wool? No rabbit or beaver in it? Many thanks.
