The Algorithm asked me if I wanted to watch a video on hat making at 2am. Turns out I did and I'm glad I did - watched another dozen episodes since. Fantastic channel, Eric! I love the way you talk to your guests, how you engage and show us how talented and special they are. I can't wait to see more.
So happy to read this! Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy the episodes. Many more coming in 2022
I also stumbled upon this at 2am
Well jeez...algorithm brought me here at 5:19pm on a Saturday lol...ugh. Interesting so far @1 min into it.
Thats mad !!! 01:52 here in England right now and this video popped up. I must say right up my street though.
Same! A year later, and 3a :/
my wife hates it when i watch these videos, because i will say to her afterwards "i want to be a *insert whatever profession i just watched a video of*." i just love watching people that are experts in a craft like this. i wanted to be an artist when i was a kid, and as i've gotten older, my idea of what art is has changed. i just want to be able to leave this earth with a legacy like these artists have.
I enjoyed the fact that you are both gentlemanly and still manage to be fun and show us how hats are made. The hat looked great and showed how gifted he is at what he does.
Thank you!!
This is top quality stuff. You asked great questions, and you were genuinely engaged. I greatly enjoyed this video.
Thank you for the kind words!
Nathaniel's is the best! Living here and being able to go down the block and get an incredible hat is such a privilege. SO MUCH LOVE TO HIM AND HIS WIFE!
That's cool!! Great people. I'll be back to visit with them soon.
21:06 is just an awesome sequence of shots. The way Nathaniel is eyeing the hat and the way you’re looking at him. A true craftsman and a person who truly appreciates the craft.
Thank you. Very kind and true!
I like this guy! He's unpretentious, honest and funny! :)
Thank you for the kind words!
One of the most satisfying craft videos I've ever watched
Thank you!
Terrific story, great step-by-step, and solid production value throughout. I couldn't hit the Subscribe button fast enough.
Thank you! Much appreciated!
YES! This, 100%
The hat you made was perfect for you, it included your style and character in its design. It looked ‘right’ on your head.
Currently waiting on my hat from Nate. Ordered 9 months ago. Absolutely can’t wait to receive it! Also loved having my measurements taken by such an antique piece of equipment that is just as functional today as it was way back when.
Sweet!! You're gonna love it!
Ever get it?
@@PaulWeezy50 guess now
@@suopo32 Right. Lol
This guy is exceptionally passionate about what he does. And everyone should have a full brim hat. They look good on everyone.
No doubt about that!
That hat came out looking amazing, really fits your style and face. Loved watching the process of a true craftsman step by step.
Awesome video! My father-in-law owned a Western store. One of the services he offered was to block and shape hats. People came from all over the state to buy hats from him and have them shaped. However, since he believed there was only one "right" shape for a cowboy hat, all the hats he produced looked pretty much the same. It was a damn good looking hat!
That's pretty cool! I bet that was a good looking hat. Thanks for the comment
What kind soul this gentleman is.
Nate made me a hat almost 20 years ago. I still wear it today and it still looks like new. Nate is a master craftsmen and a super nice guy.
I wish we still had hatmakers like that in Brazil, It's hard to find a really good hat that can withstand the weather such as rain and sometimes snow. Also having a custom piece is nothing like just buying one from the shelf
I'm sort of surprised there aren't any traditional hatmakers in Brazil. You might want to reach out to Nate, maybe he can help! Thank you
You can buy cowboy hat plastic covers. Wear mine over both straw and felt hats in wet weather. Just take them off when going indoors. Oh yeah, be sure to shake the rain or snow off them too.
@@tonycostello4663 thanks for the advice my friend, but that wouldn't work for me. I can't really find a way of saying this without sounding rude, so just know that it isn't my intention
I don't use "cowboy hats", and the plastic covers wouldn't work, I want a hat that's as weatherproof as my dad's old Cury 100% Rabbit fur. My hat is a work tool, I need to leave for work early in the morning knowing that just like my poncho, my hat will keep me dry in the case of an abrupt change in the weather. Carrying the cover on my tack would be another piece of nuisance to be dangling and annoying me and my horse
Nathaniel built a hat for me when he was still in Mancos Colorado. That's been 15 years ago. He is a true craftsman of his trade. Hat still gets compliments to this day.
I have no doubt that hat will last a lifetime! Great investment
Keep showing what human beings can do - the world is so far down the wrong road. This is great.
Loved the knife handle with Quanah Parker
Gosh that is AMAZING I can see why he takes so much pride in his Hats, Makes me want to take a trip to TX just for a hat.
So cool! You need to visit Nate in TX!
I really like your intro, Eric. It explains the story of many artists and entrepreneurs. Man, your conversation was inspiring (actually they all are to me). So cool that art was in his family and that he was easily able to buy the hat business.
That is a great hat!
we live in a throw away society where no one want's to pay for quality. It's nice to see the pride a craftsman puts into there trade
Well said. Thank you for the comment.
That was a bloody ripper video. As an Australian I love our Akubra hats. These would be the only others I would wear. Magnificent
Akubra makes beautiful hats! Glad you enjoyed! Thanks
I thought that THE CRAFTSMANS LEGACY was the best ever TV show. Would love to see it return . From host to craft it was the best.
Thank you! We are still releasing new episodes on CZcams. Season 5 is out now and Season 6 in late 2022. Thank you for the kind words!!!
@@CraftsmansLegacy deserved words.
Another great episode Eric and the hat looks great! Keep 'em coming and I'll keep watching.
What a magnificent pride to see someone with indian blood, be an outstanding craftman. Greetings from Costa Rica Central América, and from another indian. Bagua Bagua nama tain. Well done Big Tiger
Who in the f@$k is this guy and why does he only have 30k subs. Legend in the making.
🙂
Very kind. Thank you
Welcome to Texas! Love Georgetown and especially this episode!!! 🤠
I enjoy Texas! Georgetown was fantastic. Loved the small-town feel.
Anything that is creative is art. And craftsmen are artists
OK!
I don't know how I stumbled upon this video, but I'm sure glad I did. This California native has a different style. But after watching this video, I would love to have a custome hat by this gentleman. Great video to watch and the process was super intriguing. Love trades. It's what makes America great.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I liked he was really watching you as you made it with such passion but also guided you just enough. Wasn’t yelling or laughing at you like other shows. You could see in this guy he really loved this job. Super cool man! I’ve been a Stetson man for 50 plus years. But would love to be able to have this man make me a hat.
Nate is such a great man. Definitely get a hat made. You’ve love it.
What a great episode! Loved it! I have been following Nathan for quite a while and this pushed me over edge to have a hat made by him!
This is completely on par with any streaming service or television related documentary or show from a production value and entertainment value standpoint. Wow what a video.
Thank you. It originally was a national PBS show.
I love watching this. My grandmother was a hat maker in NY City. She never told me about it, but I have it from other members of my family that if you were in the upper crust of NYC society and wanted a hat you went to my grandmother. I wish now I'd asked her about her work.
That's a wonderful legacy Bill. Have you ever tried looking for some of her hats for sale? That would be great to have.
@@CraftsmansLegacy Well she was active in the 20's--40's so anything she created would have to be in a someones collection or a museum. I haven't been in NY City for more years then I can remember. Even my mother didn't save much of anything.
As soon as I saw the introduction, I subscribed. Can’t wait to watch them all.
What a true craftsman and keeping the old methods alive is just spectacular!!
Nate is an amazing craftsman. Thank you!
I guess this popped up on my page because I've been shopping for hats. Gotta say I'm so glad it did. Eric, I plan to binge some of your stuff now. Nathaniel (Nate) is incredibly likeable and obviously works hard at the craft. What a treat to see folks like him still exist. Now I'm off to visit his website!
Doesn’t get much more wholesome than that! Really like his approach to finding out more. It is much more fun and interesting to watch a craftsman/artist interview another than just an interviewer. Subscribed
Thank you! Very kind to say.
Awesome! I can’t believe I’m just now seeing this channel. Definitely deserves millions of views. I love seeing the passion that these folks have for their craft
So glad you found us! Thank you
That cattleman hat he's wearing looks great
More, More More Eric! Keep them coming. This whole production works so well and you are such a genuine guy it brings the best out of your featured artist. Love it
Thank you for the kind words! Very much appreciated.
I live in Georgetown, I can’t believe that I haven’t been in. I knew he was here but I’ll definitely have one of his hats soon. Thanks!
How great is this story... Glad I came across it. True craftsmen are rare today keeping it real love a hat
Thank you!!
I love the way that the old equipment was so carefully made and cherished that they're still able to get such fantastic custom results. Thank you for sharing these programs.☺️
I'm really glad that I watched this video. The host comes off as the badass sitting at the bar, but once you start talking, he Is friendly and interested as what you do.
He seems like such a good person. He asks the expert what to do, rather than trying to flex his knowledge. I appreciate that, as I'm sure many of us view this as a learning experience.
Super respectful and highlights this gentleman in regards to his trade. Thank you for this upload!
This Hatmaker is amazing. Taking his time to instruct the host with a calming patience. He seems like such a great teacher. He's so particular and patient, id like to buy him a beer and just talk for a while.
If anyone knows where this shop is located, let me know.
This is truly remarkable...Watching one craftsman show/teach another craftsman a trade almost lost to time...
It's a beautiful thing! Thank you for the kind words
Excellent story video my friend. Loved watching Nate’s skill and passion.
Wear your hat well!
This is thee best hat making video on CZcams. Lovely introduction. Engaging and a great ending with the talk about a sense of slight anxiety of wearing a hat, and going for it.
great video! I love how the good ol' fashion tools were used.
Just recently retired to The Lost Sierra, cattle country north of Lake Tahoe. My stockbroker said if you're to be the Laird of an estancia, you need a custom hat, and he sent me your video link of Nate. A week later I found myself flying to Texas Hill Country to meet this wonderful craftsman. I have a very large head (63) and it was nice to hear Nate and Kerrie talk not only about size, but about skin complexion, and shape of head and stature of build, and how it all comes together with the "right hat". When I found out I was 345th in line, and about one year out, I ordered two. One a Lizard Head Cattleman's (my new Sunday Going To Meeting Hat) and a working cowboys' GUS for everyday wear. Thank you for bringing me to know these wonderful people.
Super cool! Nate and Kerrie are wonderful people. Enjoy your hats my friend.
What a great hat! That was too cool. I am glad that Mr. Funmaker is continuing the tradition of making custom hats.
Thank you! I too am glad Nate is continuing the tradition.
your choices for ur hat, style, color etc, all came out perfect for you mate. fantastic all around.
I appreciate this guy he is proud of being very good craftsman, people like quality
Very true
Great video! I really enjoy watching true craftsmanship in action. Quality
Wow, so glad I found your channel. This is incredible, and inspiring. Your intro really resonates with me. I work in medicine, and I'm at a point where I *need* to transition into something else, so I've started a small business making rugs. I don't make the money doing it that I do working in a hospital, but I'm having fun and I'm not stressed out while making rugs. Working in medicine provided a future for my kids, and I'm grateful that I've had the privilege of helping people in need, but I really want to spend my time doing something that I enjoy now.
Simply amazing work. Makes me so proud to be a fellow Texan
Just found your channel! I love what you're doing, I find old craftsmenship so interesting.
AMAZING video. I love hats and I have such huge respect for those that make them with quality and care. I have watched this video probably 5-7 times. One of my favs!
This was so badass! Thanks Eric!
I got a hat from Nathanial last year right before we moved from Texas to Louisiana. I love his work and he and his wife are a joy to talk to. Highly recommend getting on that wait list.
Awesome!!
Stumbled onto your videos and have to say this one is excellent. Love these kinds of stories and I so want a custom hat from Nate. Keep up the good work.
So glad you found us, Marc! Thank you
How fun!! I really enjoyed watching and learning about how custom hats are made. I would so love one for myself.. ❤
That’s awesome there is a lot over steps involved in making one thank you- all the best!!
I am so happy I found this show. I used to watch it on TV but we moved and acquired a different cable service that did not carry this show. I immediately subscribed here.
Thank you!!!
Never wanted a cowboy hat before until after watching this .. makes me wish I had went to Nathaniels when I lived in TX
Good stuff. Great look into craftsmanship over fast fashion.
Wow love those knives.. the gift of creativity passed on from Ancestor to the next generation this makes who we are... Thank you for this video!
I have a homestead....as you can tell from my CZcams name. I want a properly fitting hat to wear out for chore time. It gets pretty nasty here in Western pa. This video has encouraged me to try to find a local hat maker to make my hat. Thank you so much!
You'll be happy with that journey. A well fitting / made hat will keep you comfortable year round.
The Last hat in the try on phase looked great on you. I think it is more of an outdoor rugged look. Your final hat is more of a going on the town style.
Thanks! I've been enjoying my hat
That was an outstanding episode
15 seconds of intro and SUBSCRIBE. . . Great concept for a series, this video is incredible.
The intro is perfect. This rivals some of the best professionally produced tv series. Reminds me of dirty jobs. Compelling. Really heart and soul in this.
What a talented man. There’s something in the soul that says stop working for the man on the 8-5 and do something that makes you happy. Hat making is something that just seems awesome. Great video
How does this channel not have millions of subscribers.
We will in time! Thank you for the support
this is one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. I had no clue what it took to make one of these hats. Wish my grandpa was still around, he would love this. I'm hooked now!
Thank you! Super cool process.
Thank you for posting these on CZcams. Been a big fan of the show since the first season. Fun to watch and learn a lot!
A great story about a real nice guy! TY 4 sharing
I’m a barber… I too work with my hands… I love the craftmenship in boots and hates… a lot of leather wear… I love this channel
Thank you! Being a barber takes a lot of skill. I bet it took some time to learn. All the best
Great episode . Absolutely love Mr. Funmaker . He has such a peaceful , kind and gentle soul .
So true. Nate is a wonderful man and I'm grateful we've become friends.
I just discovered this channel and I love the content. Thank you for shining light on these craftsman and woman.
Thank you, Mikey!!
For sure one of my new favorite channels!
You gotta say, that hat truely does look great on you. Really nice piece of craftsmanship.
Thank you kindly
Such an amazing craft & skill!! Great channel, Eric!
💪😎👍
Welcome to Texas! I live right up the road from Georgetown. Great little town. Nice hat. It'll look better the more you wear it. Vaya con dios!
An artist at work. I love it.
Made me smile seeing a reimers boiler there when they are steaming the hat. I've actually installed those in two locations before, once in carpet making for relaxing carpet fibers and once in aerospace for humidification control.
That’s cool!
Just found this channel and wow how do more people not know about this! You do amazing job and you make it look so genuine and pure talking to craftsman’s it’s just amazing
Thank you! Please help spread the word!
Seen your TV show in a few different states I've worked in but never at home. Glad I found your CZcams channel. You're keeping the non Walmart population entertained. Thanks for spotlighting these craftsmen and women
Thank you! Glad you found us!
Another great video Eric, good tunes too
I'm marking this on my list. My husband is always wanted me to travel with him in trucking. My son finally graduates this year. He doesn't realize this, but mama's going to go away for a few weeks. I'm putting this on my list we're going to stop in and get a hat. Oh boy I'm so excited. Literally I think this is going to make my husband cry. In a good way. Cowboy goodway.
I hope you enjoy your time and trip! Say hi to Nate for me.
I love learning about these Craftsmen that Eric visits and interviews. I hope that they can find someone to pass their trades down to, it'd be a shame to lose these crafts.
Thank you! I hope so too.
Its nice seeing a man succeed at what he loves doing. I wish this for all hardworking men. In Japan they call it Ikigai
Great to see artists doing their thing. Fills the heart.
Thank you
Always enjoy watching your show.
So amazing. Hat turned out so good!! ❤
Exceptional videos, you are a natural storyteller.
I am so pissed I just found this channel, and so glad I did.. it's a weird feeling seeing so many artists and craftsman.
I'm glad you found us, Matthew! Thanks
That's an amazing process and the hat looks great! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thank you very much!!
This is the first video I watch on your channel and I really enjoy the way you interviewed Nate. Good job 👍 Subscribed
Thank you, Johan! Much appreciated.
Oh my gosh, I am in heaven!!! What an amazing channel. I love craftsmanship and learning so I am beyond thrilled to have found your channel
Thank you! How kind to say.
