first heard "hurley" played on college radio out of san marcos as i labored for probably $5/hr at a chinese restaurant in nearby new braunfels, tx. it was the most amazing thing i'd heard in a while, so i ordered the cd off amazon, which sounds quite mundane but was actually momentous, as amazon was a novel thing at the time, as was the internet, and it was the first time i ever ordered something off amazon. i also ordered an afghan whigs album on vinyl, which turned out to mostly suck, except for the song i already knew from the radio ("come on, come on, come on little rabbit"). however, pinback has never lost their luster...
When I was living in San Antonio a guy at work shared out his collection with me. I was looking for something to fill the silence but which wasn't too obtrusive when I was doing NaNoWriMo. I kept getting pieces of their songs stuck in my head. For a couple of years they were just about the only thing I listened to. Even now, I've been going through a Pinback revival. I'm mostly listening to them and J.R. Richards at the moment.

Whole album is great with the lovely voice and audible guitar strokes! Clutch is my favourite song. So incredibly good and catchy, that voice, the guitar strokes and the weoweoweos.

i bought this album when it was reissued on wax, and i would throw it on before getting super high when i had a crippling heroin addiction. i listened to it no fewer than a couple of hundred times, as i would onluy listen to a select handful of records as part of my ritual of getting high
I really want to know more about this album and Pinback’s music in general. There’s such a consistent sound and mood this album has that I really want to know if there’s any kind of underlying theme or concept. Their music and lyrics are just so interesting I can’t help but be curious about the thought processes behind it all!
The speed is too slow, and adjusting to 1.25x just overshoots the mark. I have been waking up to Tripoli (on my CD alarm clock... with the CD that I purchased to support the band, mind you) every day for the past 2 years -- so the speed is burned into my mind. Too bad... Maybe I'll have to bring the CD into work, huh?
This is exactly 100% album speed. Look up the album track listing/lengths and they match the lengths of the songs here (there are just some 2-second discrepancies due to songs overlapping by a couple seconds).
