      My father rebuilt Chinese Nanchang CJ-6A brought over here to the US in containers. He said for the total avionic/wiring rebuilds, he pulled over 350lbs out of those planes! He actually had to add lead ballast in his, named "Katrinka", because he went all lithium batteries and lightweight avionics... with the biggest stock engine those planes came with, 450 hp I think.... he couldn't use the battery as a CG counterweight because it didn't weigh enough!😂

    As a mechanic seeing those wires reminds me of working on busses, the schoolbuses here are all single colored wires and you'd be lucky to find any labels on them.
    Also had a mouse take out my SUV cluster once, little buggers used it for a latrine. Surprised no fried electronics from the animals in the 401.

The only reason he didn't start with that is because the purchase condition was "get it started". Else i bet he would have stripped this down to it's frame in the first episode. they're only now getting that far. they mostly have to do this at this point because they never found the log book. without the log book, they need to get everything tested (even microfracture testing), inspected, and approved before it can fly again.

    Jason, I have been watching since you started the, will it run 401, project. I have been in the electrical field since 1975 when I joined the Navy. I was a shipboard electrician on an aircraft carrier, CV-61 USS Ranger. My last two years,1979 and 1980, as a flight deck electrician. Most folks do not know that white wiring is a special wire type that has a very durable wire coating. If I may offer some thoughts to your future work on this project. You know by now just about all that you will be doing to this plane. I would recommend that you organize your actions on a timeline. Like a check list with projected times for starting and completing each task. This way your followers can follow your progress and know when you plan to complete each section. I think you might have more help from the viewers if they can plan when to come. Finally, we will know when you plan on completing this project. I like Jimmy at Jimmy's World, but Jimmy has failed to do what I have just asked you to do. Viewer do not know if he will complete the 310. Ron Ross Tulsa

You can run the hot air discharge to the exterior. These things are about the size of a mini frig on wheels. They work great and will cool a plane in no time. They cost less than a thousand dollars. I have had my current unit about 5 years. Give it some thought. Take care and stay safe.

I can’t understand why shops in warm or hot areas don’t think of the working crew. I live in Florida and it gets hot and humid but I would do the same if I had a facility in the desert. Looking through these videos at all the work you are doing, it's stagging to imagine what it would have cost to pay a company to do what you're doing. It's also amazing that you don't even need to take notes as you tear it down. I gutted the interior in my car once for cleaning, and I still had issues remembering how everything went back in. Can't imagine having to do that with an airplane lol

      I’m not seeing a lot of labeling.
      I would have a sharpie labeling every panel and trim piece holding that headliner up before it got completely removed and the direction it’s installed.
      All the fasteners need to go into a labeled baggie.
      Without good labeling and pictures, reassembly is going to be a nightmare.

    • @MrJest2
      @MrJest2 Před rokem +1

      One wire at a time. Doesn't help that there is "abandoned" wiring stuffed back behind the panel from upgrades/repairs, because it was too much of a PITA to remove the old wire run. Compare this mess to when they finally get back to putting it all together correctly, and it will look a lot better with neatly bundled harnesses and all properly fixed down.

    I find this renovation fascinating to watch, just because while I've been an airplane geek all my life, I've rarely seen much detail about the construction of modern aircraft other than experimental kits - which aren't quite the same as a commercially produced airplane.
