📡 Today I will be answering a lot of overdue questions: Is 5G faster than 4G?
We hear a lot about 5G being the “future” of the internet. Some have said it’ll transform entire industries, others, it was designed to “weaken our immune systems.” Conspiracy theories aside, I really want to put 5G through its paces, and perform the ultimate 5G vs. 4G speed test.
    0:00 Intro
    1:50 5G VS 4G speed test
    2:35 5G VS 4G download speed test
    2:58 5G VS 4G while using Netflix

    4:34 How does 5G work?
    5:28 Overview: 5G VS 4G
    8:17 Is 5G worth it?
📡 5G vs 4G difference explained | Are the downfalls worth it? 📡
📶 The thing about 5G is that you need to be in direct view of a 5G cell tower to get reliable and fast speeds, if not this can affect the results. That’s why finding a prime location is always a priority. Our 5G vs 4G vs 3G speed tests concluded: the primary difference between these is the speed. The introduction of more bits-per-second being able to travel the network explains why 5G is faster in most cases. But we aren’t without issues here. I’m sure you’re no stranger to how long it took for 4G to spread across this planet.
📶 The country I’m currently in only has 5G in the bigger cities, if I go camping or out of town for a while I’d have tough luck finding a 5G connection. As I said, you’ve got to be in direct view of a 5G cell tower. 5G towers have a small range and can’t penetrate large buildings very well. The proper implementation just isn’t there yet and some people might find their phone switching in and out of 5G and 4G for those very reasons.
📶 Then there’s the elephant in the room - 5G security concerns. An increase in the so-called IoT devices - great for manufacturers, not so great for consumers. Cybersecurity is not often considered whilst making these low-end products. Leaving prime opportunity for ransomware attackers to gain access.

We do have 5G capable phones and 5G towers for the dedicated network just for it, but we don't necessarily have the services that will provide that much Mb/s for users. We have the infrastructure for it but we don't have the services for it, an analogy would be like riding a skateboard on the Nascar race track.

Verizon was willing to pay my co op to have a cellphone tower on our building but our co op voted it down. We could have had better cell service plus lower maintenance. Too many people fall for the conspiracy theory's. The funny thing is, the co-op next door soon had a cell phone tower on it.

Nice video thanks! If you're moving house & want to use wireless 4G/5G instead of fiber & unsure of which provider to use I suggest checking out the coverage maps and then buying a phone sim card for the most promising looking provider. Then buy some data for that phone & run some speed tests at your new house. This will give you a very good idea on how 4G wireless is going to work for you. I'm a big fan of 4G because of all the frustrations of using copper phone lines and ADSL. Fiber is subject to damage & dodgy installations just like the old copper wires.

Nice effort but why no one is actually able to really inform us correctly on the 5g vs 4g performance?
2 speedtests is ridicule man... A real test would be at least 10, and from very different locations, and from inside buildings.
Also, 5G doesn't have to use ultrafast waves, it can also, and will in 90% of areas, use regular waves lengths. We want to know how speeds are improved in that situations. Theory says it should improved latency and speed by around 20%, and also support much more devices connected to the tower at the same times. But I've never found a proper test online yet :(

I was considering Starlink in my rural area but then Tmobile 5G home internet came to town a few months ago and it was a no-brainer, and it's great at $50/month flat fee, no price increases. (See my other comment about it here.) However, Starlink is a good option for rural users with no other choice, or really slow speed choices, and I've watched dozens of videos on it. The downsides are that it requires installing the dish with wiring outside your house, keeping the snow off it, getting no service in heavy rain, the continuous power draw of 100 watts, the $99/month fee, and the $499 equipment fee.
So that makes T mobile, where they give you the gateway (modem/router the size of a coffee can) to use while you pay for the service, and works well in harsh weather, doesn't require any maintenance or worry that it might get damaged because it isn't outdoors. That said, you can determine whether it's available in your area by going to their website, and even if it is, there can be a lot of speed variability depending on how close your house is to the tower, number of obstructions, and sometimes other factors such that you don't know what you're going to get until you try it.
Some people are a mile from the tower and can't get any speed to even remain connected. The speeds can fluctuate a lot or not so much, depending on your location. Most people get average speeds of between 30 and 200 on it, and maybe one-third get over 200 all the way to about 700 for people near a tower with the mid-frequency equipment on it. My former DSL upload speed was 1Mbps. I now get anything from 10 to 70 for upload speed with Tmobile home internet.

I was forced into getting a new phone because AT&T (and others) were ending 3G (my phone was a Galaxy S8+ with 2G/3G LTE). So now I have a Galaxy S21 that is 5G capable. However I really see no speed difference than with my old phone. The current speed just now is 7.4 Mbps download - 1.2 Mbps upload. Earlier, it was 15.8 Mbps download - 3.3 Mbps upload. As far as I am concerned, the 5G hype is definitely over-rated.

4g 2h2min video downloaded in 1min42seconds vs 5g 13min video downloaded in 50 seconds 🤔. Not a equal test and makes 5g seem slow. 50 seconds+50 seconds= around 1:40. So would it taken 5g 1:40 to download a 26 min which would make it slower than 4g. Need a retest with the same 13 min video on 4g and 2h2min video on 5g.

Although I'm not in visual range of a 5g tower, Im finding that with video downloads in Sydney with Vodafone, on 5G, with my latest 5G Samsung phone, 4G is either the same or faster than 5G. On top of that, when in 5G mode, my phone heats up to the extreme, and my 500 ma battery gets chewed. I am not that impressed. Web pages may spring up a tad quicker, but that's all. I personally think the issue is that the phone has to connect to multiple towers on 5g, causing way more power usage from my device and making it heat up and because perhaps it has too constantly be connected to multiple towers, which inhibits the signal and thus the download speed. I cant say that I'm happy with 5g. Infact, When my mobile plan is due to be updated in 3 months, Im Probably going to save a few dollars and go back to a 4 g plan..... If for nothing else the battery consumption. And I don't like my phone heating up so much. Ive got a snapdragon processor in my Samsung also. I am not the only one finding this issue with phone heating up and battery drainage...... I am not happy with 5G.

Yeah let’s have 5 seconds faster speeds and fry our brains in the meantime. Seems like a great trade off to me.

Haha, people had similar worries about 4G, 3G, 2G, and so on, but thankfully, those didn't fry our brains either. Technology keeps moving forward, and while we can't stop the "G" train, it's always good to stay informed and use devices responsibly!

Not as big as a leap as previous generations- 4g was 500x faster than 3g iirc- as opposed to 3x~ faster 5g speed shown in the video. Still a long way to go but there’s potential in the future.

4G was much more significant upgrade. I have a 5G phone but I personally think that 5G is a meh upgrade.

If your phone only has 4G, will it still work in an area that only has 5G?

    • @cybernews
      @cybernews  Před rokem +4

Of course! There will be no area that will only have 5G, as all of those areas are covered with 4G already
