Joseph Murphy TBF to people who mess up “Hang On Sloopy”’s title, there were some major ad campaigns for the theme park chain with the rights to the Peanuts characters (The Cedar Fair parks, I think?Knott’s Berry Farm was the one near me) that parodied the song as “Hang On Snoopy” in the 90s, well after the original had dropped off the air. So a whole generation heard the parody and thought it was the original.
@@IONATVS oh yeah I'm aware of that. There was another song like that one as well in which they thought it was one thing and it was another. If I can remember the song I will share it. But I do remember as a kid in the 70's that most people around me called the song hang on snoopy. Not even looking at the record to see the actual name.
I was a youngster when this song first hit the airwaves, and it hit me hard. I cried and felt pain in my heart...and I will always remember that. That's why, to this day, I think it's probably my favorite Four Seasons song. So many other great songs, though! The Four Seasons are just so amazing; a prolific, American classic group.
@Linda Camarda Same here. I was 10 & cried every time it came on the radio. And here I am now, wiping away tears even though I enjoyed Jamel's reaction. This song really stayed with us.💙
Bob Gaudio, who was a member of the Four Seasons, also wrote/co-wrote many of their hit songs, Rag Doll came about while Bob was in New York at a stop light. A girl in tattered clothes came out while Bob was waiting for the stop light to change, and washed his windshield. That encounter was what encouraged him to write the song. Rag Doll went to #1 on the Billboard charts, one of the rare American groups to get a number one during the time of the British Invasion.
I heard also he kept looking at her in the rearview mirror of the car as they drove away just standing there in her rags looking after him and thats the vision that stayed with him that moved him to write the song.
"Rag Doll" is regarded by some as the greatest achievement of the Four Seasons. Gaudio (piano, songwriter, vocals) was on the way to a recording session and his car was stopped at a long traffic light in Hell's Kitchen. Often kids would wash the car windows during the long waits and ask for some change. In Gaudio's case, a scruffy little girl washed his window. When Gaudio went to give her change, all he had was a $20 bill. After a moment's hesitation, he gave her the bill because he had to give her something. The astonished look on her face stayed with him and inspired the subsequent song. ~ Wikipedia
it was a ten. Here's the link to Bob Gaudio, the writer, telling the story. I doubt if he would have given her a twenty back in 1964. He hesitated giving her the ten. czcams.com/video/8OaRHwEM2WQ/video.html

Such a beautiful song and thank you for your review. This song happens to be one of the biggest hits of 1964 and the bands 4th number 1 hit in less then two years. To think that when rolling stone magazine came out a few years back with the top 500 greatest songs recorded, not one Valli or 4 Seasons song made it on that list. Frankie Valli recorded it with the rest of the Four Seasons and the rest is history.

@@jimhuggard5398 Growing up in the 60's I always like there was so many classes and it was easy to feel out of place.I took me into my middle to late 20's to feel comfortable in nice sit down restaurants.
@@jimhuggard5398 for sure Jim, hindsight is always 20/20 right?
seen an interview with Frankie Valli about this song , he says he pulled up at the lights and a young girl as described in this song stepped up to his car and started washing his windscreen... that gave him the idea for this song
I remember the first time and me and my friends heard the intro to this song just made us just stop playing and just listen to the song!!! That song was number one on the National Pop chart for a long time!
Heard this song as a young child. I cried and cried.

Years ago I saw Aretha Franklin on TV singing a duet with Frankie Valli. I don't even remember anymore what song they sang but it was great fun.
They kicked ass, what a great group.
I heard this song today for the first time while working, what a great song!
Been loving these Four Seasons vids. A few others hit to check out are "Let's Hang On," "Dawn," "Opus 17," and "Working My Way Back to You."
Opus 17 definitely!!!
HI Jamel! This is your subscriber from Down Under! Just wanted to say you are a TREASURE! Your wife is SO lucky to have you! Thank you so much for reacting to sixties music! It's my FAVOURITE music, including Motown! LOVE your channel! Take care and stay safe! God Bless! From Australia.
This is my favorite Four Seasons song. I was about 11 when it came out. So I was still in childhood, but not exactly anymore. Living in Austin, TX that wasn't the place where childhood lasted too long.
Thank you, Jamel_AKA_Jamal !!! I believe I was 15 years old when this song came out on AM radio..
It will always be close to my heart..
Wait until you play "Who Loves You" and "Grease" !!!!! These guys just killed it forever !!!
Prayers of Faith for you and yours.. God Bless..

You’re a star. Just a matter of time till you’re on tv
That would be awesome. . . Random guy on the street enter sound booth for music reaction. Jamel would host!
Lightning Strikes will blow your mind. These songs were on the "radio", kids. KHJ, KRLA in L.A. Free.
I love the contrast between the drums and the high tenor coice. Thanks Jamal
Jamel, so glad you listen and react to a wide variety of music. I think this is my favorite song of theirs.
Always loved this song , your reaction paid it the respect it deserved , ❤💙❤UK
Love this song
When I was in my late teens I used to listen to this over and over on my transistor radio. Most young people don't even know that's a small portable radio receiver that uses transistor-based circuitry. I think we all could relate back then. I love your post.
IMO this is as good as it gets, any genre, timeless
