What do you think about this spear? Any questions about its construction?
it's beautiful, great work man
Is Damascus a composite material, stronger than either of the steels that go into it, or is it just cosmetic, and one or the other types of steel could make a functionally identical blade?
Is it possible to make blue steel Damascus?
@@joe-wt7oe done well, Damascus is as strong as the base steels. Never better. It’s just for aesthetics though.
I was wondering if you would consider making the cone out of the same patterned billet until I saw the etch and that it was a commission. Looks awesome!
Alec would have made this a 14 part build series. Nice work.
Haha, well I think people prefer the full builds in one video, as do I. Thanks for watching, Dave.
😂😂
Ayo what you hating on Alec for, come on man
FR I love this channel because of that. I don't mind longer between videos if they have good substance. Alec seems to be too busy with his company to put out content.
Oof
Beautiful work, as always. I love the diagrams you include to show how the pattern moves and forms. Thanks for the awesome content!
I’m glad the graphics help. Thanks for watching, Chad!
@@TyrellKnifeworks They really do.
this is one of my favourite builds so far! I love the shape and that pattern, and the way you connected the tip of the spear with the socket; such a clean weld and the hand forging after that, you can hardly tell there where initially two separate parts. Great work!
Thanks for checking out this build, Paul. It was a fun and different build.
What a gorgeous spearhead. Truly made me want it. That feathering was so incredible, and thank you so much for sharing how the pattern progressed, that was a very helpful and nice addition. I've been wanting a strong spear for years, but I can never find good ones unless it's just the heads, so maybe I'll have to go that route and just work a stave myself for it.
You are a wonderous forger!
The stave was pretty easy actually. Thanks for checking out this build!
@@TyrellKnifeworks That's good to know. I've been wanting to delve into crafting and forging. Right now I'm kinda amateur with woodworking, but I want to pick up leathercrafting soon. Once I can save up enough, then I can really delve into the beauty of forging.
After so many years of seeing such amazing items be crafted, I want to express my own creativity through the lovely crafts of old.
Whenever I see layers of Damascus being pressed and glowing orange, I can’t help but think “Forbidden Filo”
Ha, yeah don’t take a bite of that one. Thanks for watching, Marty!
I really like all your explanations of why you do each step and how that changes the outcome. I've watched many forging videos, and your explanations are the clearest and most helpful. It really adds to the overall experience and it is something that I enjoy learning about!
I'm glad the graphics are helpful. Thanks for watching!
Wow that came out Awsome...You should go on Forged in Fire and show them how its Done! You would Definetly win the money..
I've applied to be on the show (several times), I'm just waiting for them to give me a call. Thanks for watching.
Been wanting to see something like this for a while. Plus with God of War Ragnarok recently released this is a good time to release this video!
I hope so! Thanks for taking a look.
I love feather damascus. It's one of my favorite patterns and I love that serpentine weave in the blade. That viking spear turned out awesome!👍👍
Thanks so much, Isaac! I appreciate you taking a look.
The corner graphic showing the pattern was a nice touch
I’m glad it’s helpful. Thanks for watching!
That socket is so good and helps make the blade standout even more. Amazing work. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for taking a look, Sam!
I love how you put the patterns in the bottom. It’s also nice because people who don’t know how to work patterns can basically do what you do but they then know what pattern they are getting where they stop (manipulating the pattern I mean)
I'm happy you find the graphics useful. Thanks for watching!
i would love to see you do something cool with the cutoffs from the bars you restack just a cool random pattern dmask. as always i love what you do
I’ve made “fossil” Damascus with cutoffs before. My 100k giveaway knife build used that. Thanks for watching, Douglas.
Lovely! 💜 This feather pattern is stunning!
Thanks for taking a look!
Beautiful work that pattern running through the middle is awesome
Thanks for taking a look, Elijah!
Maybe I’m easy to amaze, but this is awesome. I also just love anything to do with Vikings
This was a fun build, thanks for watching!
Damascus blades are always so beautiful 🔥
Thanks for taking a look!
Rigoni iron works has a good method of making the tapered sockets for spears, He is the tooling master. Fantastic spear by the way
I’ll have to check that out. Thanks for watching
I went and had a look and he is forging a socket for a chisel, it's 2 years ago
Have you ever attempted a Forged In Fire style challenge in your own forge just too see if you could do it?
I haven’t yet. Maybe some day. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful piece! Was a joy to watch
Thanks for taking a look!
Beautiful!!! Love the pattern looks great. The etch on the socket is a nice touch!! Have a great weekend!!😎
Thanks so much, Daniel! It was a fun build.
4:00 in I totally dig how your video is set up, great camera work and obviously, great craftsmanship, but the thing I really like is your narration and how you explain what's going on, and the little graph in the bottom left corner, BRILLIANT !!!!! Great idea.
I watch a couple of different forging channels, probably some you know, but yours stands out, yours is different, in a good way.
Thank you for breaking it down for us layman......
Okay, back to the show 👍👍
Aaaaaaand I'm back,
This turned out INCREDIBLE, that feather pattern looks amazing, almost like you know what you're doing, huh, crazy.
Whoever commissioned this is one lucky sumb!tch, I'd love to have this. I don't think it would see much war action though, it'd be more of a, wall hanger art piece, at least that's what I'd use it for. Great job dude, your craftsmanship is on a whole other level.
Beautiful work.
Take care, until next time.
~Jonny5🥁
Thanks so much, Jonny! I appreciate you checking out this build. Unfortunately the guy who commissioned it ghosted me after and I haven’t heard from him since. Oh well, it up for sale on my website now. Thanks for watching!
I swear! The type of you work is just phenomenal!! I absolutely love that feather pattern! It’s creamy how you come up with this stuff!! lol
Thanks so much, Sean! I appreciate you watching.
Came out awesome man!

That spearhead is beautiful.
Great work again.
Thanks for checking it out!
Awesome. Love the pattern reference in the corner on your videos. Like how you explained the socket part. You do nice work.
Thanks for watching, Mike!
That is a thing of beauty, you should be very proud of it!
Thanks for checking it out, Chris!
that pattern is OUTSTANDING!
Thanks for checking it out!
Beautiful work Denis! Very interesting reflection about the bevel angles- after longer reflection it's obvious but if I make a spear I would make same mistake!
Not sure what I was thinking putting a 25 degree bevel on it. 🤷♂️. Thanks for watching, David
Man you have came along way in a short time 👍 that's the best spear I've ever seen
Thanks for checking it out, Richard!
Absolutely amazing as always!
Thanks so much, Armen! I appreciate your support.

That’s great! Welcome to the craft. Thanks for watching
The first comment on your channel, the work was perfect and excellent. Greetings from Algeria 🇩🇿
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching!
12:27 I think it's really cool that the paper browns a bit from the heat
Ha, well sometimes it cool, other times it’s annoying. 🤣. Thanks for watching
I really love listening to the press machine, it just makes me want to go and make my own. I hope your channel grows, its very good.

Very cool build. Cant wait to get a proper press made. I want to try some of these patterns but my log splitter just sucks for large billets lol.
Save up and make one. For about $1500 you could have a 30 ton press. Thanks for watching.
beautiful as always

Thanks for taking a look, Jim!
such a beautiful works!
Thanks for taking a look!
Outstanding looking, you nailed it.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you checking it out
That is stunning work, the feather pattern is such a cool pattern. An idea for a spear shaft is to use an oak bo or jo staff
Yeah, but try finding one of those at Lowes or Home Depot. 🤣. It isn't going to be shipped with the haft on it anyway. Thanks for watching.
Always look forward to your vids
Great way to learn the craft and your technical knowledge is amazing

Love and regards
😊👍🙏🇮🇳
Thanks for watching, Deepak!
Stunning
Thanks for checking it out
that looks awesome! i recently was looking for machetes and that got me looking at brush axes and then this staff machete which looks awesome got me thinking about spears and I saw another viking spear representation and it was 2ft overall with 14” blades which is bigger than the staff machete I was looking at…. which got my down the rabbit hole looking for grade 5 titanium seamless tubes to make various threaded attachments and a blowgun. but in the near future I may be rocking a sweet spear titanium staff setup.
Sounds interesting, Cameron. Thanks for watching.
Oooh...damascus Germanic spear? Tyrell Knifeworks? I know I'm gonna enjoy this thoroughly

Nice work.
Thanks for taking a look
Just found ur channel, love ur work brotha. Keep up the content❤
Welcome to the channel, Logan! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship, and I really liked the addition of the pattern on the left side corner. Question though, is the addition of the kerosene a way to keep out oxygen during the beginning forging process?
Yes on the kerosene. Plus as it burns off it leaves a residue that prevents forge scale. Thanks for watching.
@@TyrellKnifeworks interesting, thanks for the information!
Great job
