I also think she was trying to see how hard she could hit the ball and get the game over. Because she knew she was making silly unforced errors, which isn’t like her. I must say Serena never ceases to impress me. I mean, after all of these years of watching her... it's still unbelievable. That return at 8:35 shook me and I'm not even on the court! My gosh... my gosh! This is why her and Venus are the best; there's really no one that can return like that and play points so authoritative and bold, like the return at 8:56. I agree. You really can't say a peak Graf would defeat a peak Serena or vice-versa. The only match we really have to judge Graf vs. Serena is the Indian Wells 1999 final which was an amazing match. But then still, you have a young fearless and inexperienced player(Serena) against a veteran player in the twilight of her career(Graf). After that match Graf acknowledged that Serena would be a future #1 player but it still doesn't answer the quesion of peak vs. peak. Different eras.
Watching some of Ana's last matches on Wimbledon(especially the second set of the match against Errani),I'm starting to see the old Ana.Jankovic also convinced me that she belongs to the top of WTA list after brilliant match against Benesova.They remind me a little to Ana and Jelena from last season.But I still think they're not ready enough for Serena and Venus. I totally agree that they are high-quality tennis players, but I'd like to see Ana winning the Wimbledon 2009 and her again in top 10.
FYI Lindsay Davenport stated that Venus is the hardest hitter on the WTA Tour, she mentioned that Serena is second. Serena proved in New York last night why she is a true champion and world number 1. She is immensely powerful and mentally tough. Venus had her chances but Serena was too tough. Hope all the top ten players stay healthy throughout 2009. 8:37 onwards is quite simple UNBELIEVABLE!!! That ball is hit so hard, i think i remember it was about 95mph when they showed it on T.V. the second one might of been harder! She just totally zoned in and the level she showed at the end here is far greater than any other woman on the tour can produce - not even V i dont think. This is ATP standard here. Vintage Serena - love it!!
Serena definitely whacks the ball from time to time; if it's within her hitting zone, she just absolutely unloads! However, she is far from a ball basher when she actually gets into rallies. I especially love how she gives her opponents a high loopy backhand crosscourt to either change the pace, neutralize the point if she's playing defense, or just pulling them off the court to set up a winner! Sigh... I love her ;P

Serena is superwoman when she's on man. I wish she had played this way at the US open...its amazing how powerful and agressive she is. She is hands down (along with her sister) the best player of her generation. She wont win em all, but she will continue to win slam after slam until she's tired of tennis. I love how Serena gets revenge on her opponents as well. This woman is an AMAZING athlete man...she's made african americans and americans alone very proud of the accomplishments she's had!

The only time you can judge Venus and Serena based on form against each other is during the years they were #1 and #2. They were both reaching slam finals consistently and Serena managed to trump Venus every time in those final matches. Now both players are shadows of themselves and can bomb out of tournaments at any time unexpectedly. The sisters matches against each other nowadays are completely mental, nothing else.
That was a good match from Ana, such a shame she wasn't able to translate that form until the end of that season, but she had a good run in IW after that, also played well at RG and W. Still, that was a disappointing season.

Ana is playing tennis with a lot of emotions. Even the little mistakes put Ana under compression. I think Ana pumps her fists to motivate herself. She also says "Ajde" very often, which in Serbian language mean "Come on".
The sad part is that this is one of Ana's best matches of 2009. She will never be as good as Serena, but I would like her to get back to her best. The WTA needs her.
No surprise Serena defeats Ivanovic once again. And Ivanovic had a 4-1 lead in the second set and she still LOST in straight sets. Serena was just cracking those returns Ivanovic never had a chance.
ivanovic might have the most powerful forehand on tour, but my goodness does serena has a great one as well. tip: don't serve ur second serve to serena's forehand it is so lethal!!!!!!!!!
You guy's can't really compare Serena with Graf. They are from to completely different generations. From todays game and the new technology etc. it does seem that Serena would win, but you have to take into account that when Steffi was at her best in the early 90's the technology and the game was very different.
I don't think Serena's "cocky" looks were out of jealousy. I'm pretty sure she was cocky when playing Ivanovic because she knows how much better she is. I would be cocky if I were Serena as well.
Match of the year? Not at all. Can we please not forget the great matches we've had on the women's side so far this year: Serena vs. Dementieva, Venus vs. Safina in Rome, Sharapova vs. Petrova at the French, Dokic vs. Kleybanova at the Aussie. Take your pick. Was this an entertaining match? Of course. Was it match of the year? Not even close.

If Justine thought she could repeat her luck streak in 2008 she would have at least attempted to build on her wins from the previous year. She knew she couldnt withstand Serenas fury. So the talk of her being the dominant player is ridiculous. Specials thanks to Venus - women players now receive equal prize money. We are proud of our athletes accomplishments - on the court and off.
The end of 2003 signifies when the sisters domination of the tour briefly ended. Actually it was after Wimbledon 2003 when the sisters were plagued with nagging injuries and eventually came the loss of their sister Yetunde. It doesn't tell me anything that Venus evened out the H2H because after that period the sisters have never been the same.
