Depends on your definition of 'insane'.
Everyone is capable of killing, including you.
The way you put 'left her body there to rot' is also telling. Its never good, is it? Some killers try to hide the body and do all sorts of things to it, that desecrate the body.

It's funny, because the mom wants more laws and to have the warning signs be taken more seriously as a preventative measure, yet her closing statement was it's a good thing to trust people. They also knew that he'd beat his first wife as well (which I didn't find out till I'd left), and gave him a pass for that too. However, most of his friends didn't know, and they cut him off completely when I finally told them.

My daughter can’t have children of her own bc of the damage he caused. My son is gone, partly because of what his “father” did.

I don't feel the same way about his friends. From personal experience, I know it is very difficult when it comes to somebody you care about for a long time to accept something like this. In my case I couldn't accept the possibility for decades; when there were signs of problematic behavior in one of my sons. I just loved him too much and to me he was always the most amazing boy with all positive qualities. But people would mention things to me from time to time and I just rejected the idea. I wasn't until he actually turned on and criminalized me that I was shaken into acknowledging that part of his personality; which he never exposed to me before. And I know there are people who are quite malicious and evil minded but who work very hard to put on a completely different appearance. People do not really wear their true nature on their sleeves. People can be very deceptive. And we all have a tendencey to judge others on the basis of appearances. So they may say they don't believe it, but what they really mean is that it does not seem possible. This happened a long way from where they knew him. When people you trust really betray that trust and damage your life, it's very traumatic - and that happens. But right up to that moment, if somebody told you they were capable of that kindd of behavior, you absolutely would not believe it.

I have more male friends than I can count and now I realize all of them wanted to have sex with me. I was too naive in my 20s to realize this, but now in my 30s I know they were just trying to get with me. You strung that guy along for 7 years, unknowingly and not your fault, but in his eyes you were probably doing it on purpose and he was getting impatient waiting on you to realize you were in love. Don't keep male "friends". That is dangerous. Unless they are friends with your boyfriend or husband first.

The saddest part to all this is they knew, the mother and Haley knew of Orlando's problem but Haley made the wrong choice of ignoring the obvious warning signs. She believed in the LIE that Orlando was a good person and would not harm her, and she decided that the problems she did witness were not as important as her so called perceptions of him being a good nurse. She didnt want him to be thrown out of Nursing school becuase of his poor choices. But this was NOT her decision to make, rather, her decision was to protect her life and her future. Orlando made the poor choices and needed to be held accountable for those choices.
This is why I teach my daughter to IGNORE your feelings, ignore what you may believe about somone and LOOK at the behavior, look at what they are actually doing separate from what you feel and believe. I tell her that she is NOT responsible for the consequences of someone elses poor choices. Make your decisions based on the FACTS and do not allow your feelings to get in the way. Its the same problem with Orlando's friends in Nicaragua as they are only looking at their feelings and what they believe to be true versus the actual truth of Orlando's behavior.
