The largest nuclear weapon ever detonated on Earth was air-dropped on a parachute to give the bomber enough time to escape (even then it was questionable if they'd survive). The fireball never touched the ground: the shockwave created by the blast bounced off the Earth's surface and pushed it halfway up towards space before the shockwave itself went around the Earth--- three times.

Peter had the bear made for the episode and gave it to Straczynski (known to his friends as Joe Straczynski, J.S.) as a gag gift. JMS hates all things cute so wrote the "Sheridan spaces the bear" scene and added that scene to Peter's episode. Peter "vowed revenge" and a few years later on his own series Space Cases, had one of his characters find the bear floating in space. The character wondered on screen "What kind of monster would space a perfectly innocent teddy bear?" :-D
