I am a self-published author of a science-fiction miniseries where I explore the question of whether or not a time ever comes when you stop fighting for what you believe. My videos are a means of expanding and sharing my story worlds with you and I also create fan tributes to those franchises I enjoy.
The Humor of Babylon 5
Possibly the most important aspect of the characters in Babylon 5 that makes them so memorable is their sense of humor. It's certainly one of the biggest parts of the show that keeps me watching it over and over again.

Does There Ever Come A Time To Give Up? (Dodge Merrin Vlog 4)
zhlédnutí 50Před 6 měsíci
The main theme of my science-fiction miniseries revolves around the beliefs we hold and whether or not there ever comes a time to give up on them. Not change them, but simply give up and forget about them. In this video I talk a little bit about how I came to that theme and how I portrayed it in the books. What do you think? Never give up, or accept your fate? Share your thoughts! Amazon Page a...

Sorry, but I dont see it. THey were often shown in scenes together because of how adversarial they were (their races and government). Just never got the feeling they were particuarly friendly. Indeed G"kar seemed more sociable with Garibaldi.
this show would have been unwatchable without these two. they raised this show all the way up. I i loved it.
One day BOOOMM
For me my favourite was the breakfast, such wisdom on how to relax. Breathing in, breathing out, breathing in, breathing out ...
Babylon 5 was one of the greats. The story was a slow burn, but that's what made it remarkable. It definitely doesn't get the credit it deserves.
Minbari humor? Is it like Jaffa humor? 😛
The annoying computer was voiced by Harlan Ellison. :)
G'Kar and Londo arc is one of the best written.
That is the subject of a video posting in the near future. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it when it does!
The story could be considered Londo's arc, there are so many well portrayed characters in the show and it's a shame we lost so many of them.
Loved this show
The tears of Truth B5 wrenched from my soul... Help me know I'm alive... Few experiences came close. Thank you JMS for sharing such wisdom. It helped build my foundation
I quote this show all the time. My favorite has to be, "Any Gropo who ain't scared is either dead or stupid."
At nearly 75 years Young I will always hold B5 in my heart as the greatest excursion I've ever had the privilege of experiencing. So few have taken the journey And have no idea what they're missing... Thank you my friend
That bike probably has more power then a star fury
Nice one dude, There was more classic Garibaldi bits. He was laughing at Delenn and t popcorn, classic!😂😂😂😂😂😂
😉🙂
2035 .. Interesting
nothing happened keep calm.. BOOM! 😂
Ivanova + Talia= 🔥🔥🔥
even in old age delen could freeze anyone with a look! ❤
They were the 2 most interesting characters on Babylon 5.
I love her
after treating Lyta Alexander wrong, using the telepaths only, the greatest mistake from Sheridan was not to destroy Alfred Bester as he was able for (blowing out from the sky)
I think this is one of those scenes that many fans don't really _get_ what's fully happening. Those ships were sent out for political, not military, purposes. They wouldn't retreat without either prior orders enabling it or something they can say at their military trials was a sufficient cause. A few words from a Minbari diplomat wouldn't be a good enough guarantee for the officers on the spot to bet their lives on. Sure, they might believe the Minbari were serious but they couldn't trust that a vengeful court martial wouldn't say "Fuck that, you shamed Earth" etc and declare them guilty of cowardice and/or treason. So why did they retreat so quickly? Their superiors weren't 100% stupid. Alien interference was a blindingly obvious possible problem and they wrote contingency orders along lines of "If Centauri, Minbari or Vorlons show up to stop you, leave. DO NOT START A WAR." After all, even if that happens, they can (and did) spin this for xenophobic propaganda. Not as good as seizing the station but useful in its own way, especially as an ongoing "threat" to Earth.
Good point! This leaves the captain/s just enough room to try a bluff like they did, but then upon getting called on it, clear on out of there. There does remain a possibility that they were more afraid of the Minbari than a court-martial, even a vengeful one. In that case, they have at least a slightly higher chance of survival, and a good captain would be willing to take that chance if it meant saving the lives of the crew who probably wouldn't be held accountable for following orders.
@@AuthorDodgeMerrin Yeah, it's possible but.. it'd mean their superiors were idiots for not anticipating it. And such idiots are often vengeful idiots when they're exposed so... yeah, I both don't think that's what's going on and don't want that to be what's going on. I MUCH prefer competent people in my fiction!
@@archapmangcmg Hard agree on having competent characters. Too many fiction stories rely on the good guys winning solely because the bad guys make stupid and/or arrogant mistakes. There are a lot of possibilities present in this scene, and your explanation is one I hadn't really considered. What we see in General Lefcourt later also provides it some extra credibility, but the only time I'm sure of something like this being one way or the other is if it's confirmed by the creator.
@@AuthorDodgeMerrin oh true but JMS did have a fondness for competent characters, good and bad, and I like to hope he had the experience with the military, or just with CYA behaviour etc, that this was his intent all along. And it makes for a great Watsonian explanation even if it's not a true Doylist explanation.
Great video! Sinclair is still my favorite by a country mile.
Sounds like a riddle more than a poem: my answer would be a reader.
You missed one of the best one from Season 5. "and if Garabaldi is killed?" "...Zack gets his room?"
“This is the way it’s gotta be Chief. Don’t make a scene” “Me make a scene? What are you nuts?!” *Flips Table*
This is Harlan Ellison, the guy who wrote And I Must Scream and the voice of AM. i came here expecting AM, not this.
Best bromance ever
Babylon 5 knew how to do strong female characters right. Lucasfilm and Marvel could learn a lot from this show. But they won't...😞
Delenn's "Be somewhere else" speech is probably the most memorable in all of Science Fiction.
I have met claudia christian!!
I hope you remembered to obey the Babylon 5 mantra!
It might not go in here but the moment G'kar buys him a drink in the early series, the look of horror Londo has, when he realises just how badly his actions have messed everything up. I think that's part of the moment when Londo realises that G'kar can be a good person.
The coolest part is when you finally understood.
I wanted to see the scene in Medlab with him and Dr. Franklin where he accidentally slips and nearly falls. "It's a good thing for second nature. If you had time to think about it, you probably would have let me fall and hurt myself." Dr. Franklin denied Bester's accusation and claimed that he cared about all his patients - telepath or not. Furthermore, there was no reason why his kind and Bester's kind could not coexist peacefully. I liked that scene because it showed Bester trying to rationalize all the evil things he did. He was looking for an excuse.
He was a really creepy and intimidating character. It seemed like he was always in control.
Perfection! Love the song and the clip! "Vienna is behind me, you are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else!" to paraphrase Ambassador Delenn of Poland
Oh, my wife is gonna LOVE this one! =^[.]^=
You forgot one great one: When a visiting official is trying to seduce Sheridan, a “hologram” of Ivanova appears to give a report. She ends it by saying, “Good luck sir, I think you’re about to go where everyone has gone before…”
Two friends with differing passions, meet and create so much joy. I love this bit of B5. I miss these guys so much!
"I Have No Mouth, and I Must Nag"
Ivanova can cook and eat modern girl bosses for breakfast and you still like her. She is the original boss girl who earned her keep.
me as a kid "oh cool they're talk about the present as history" me now "Did I just watch a hidden add in the show?".
Just to repeat to all those asking: nothing, absolutely nothing happened in sector 83/9/12!
B5 had some V GOOD speeches
I love how President Clark put Sheridan in charge of Babylon 5 because he thought from Sheridan's war record he'd be a anti-alien but ended up with a man so opposed to him that he basically gave power wait not He gave power to the very man who'd destroy him.
His record made him look like a hard-nosed jarhead. 😆
is infinite time. You are finite. Zathras is Finite. This.... is wrong tool.
you missed his speach about the noises out there distracting us, one of my ll time fvourite pieces of wisdom
True. Sometimes I even find myself wanting to be confined so I can get a break from all the noise and work on my books.
@@AuthorDodgeMerrin His speech about the source of divinity and the lantern on the wall needs to be in another video! G'Kar has so much to say, please do more
And Londo too
The Egyptian God of chaos is number one disciple. May he rest in peace😢
Simply EPIC!
"What if I said I'd sprout wings and fly to New York, eh?" "In your case I'd say you were crazy. But if Sheridan said it I'd tell him to stop off on the West Side and pick me up some bagels!"
