It's really science fantasy. There is little science or view of the future in this. It's a faery tale set in space. Blade Runner is the best example of science fiction. But The stories are good. I get into lot of fights over Lando and some with G'Kar.
Both bring doom to their people, by holding to the past.

@slewone4905 sorry but it's definitely science fiction not science fantasy and definitely not a fairy tale

It was (and is) an amazing show!
But what I never understand i scenes like this is why they always have to cut their palm. This is going to be really annoying and inconvinient for days. Why not cut your arm where it wont bother you nearly as much?

Similar thoughts have occurred to me. On top of the inconvenient location as you described, they also do it over and over again in the same location leading to one nasty scar that hurts even more the next time.
Then they also don't bother to take the glove off first, so that ends up ruining a perfectly good glove as well.

Kinda like if there's an explosion you have to adopt a swagger and walk off without looking at it. It just looks cool.

@@AuthorDodgeMerrin The glove is easy to explain - that's where they hide the prop blood pack. In-universe, who knows?
As for the palm, I suppose you could argue it's supposed to be an object lesson: don't draw your blade frivolously. If you could just give yourself an inconvenient "paper cut" to satisfy the blood requirement, you might be inclined to draw your blade far more often than is truly necessary.

Always bothered me too. It seems everyone takes the drawing of the blade seriously except for Ta'lon, the guy holding the blade.

Every single show where someone needs to draw blood, they use the palm. It's the easiest spot to hide the blood packet and it's not an inconvenience in universe because they're in the same universe as last action hero... just a flesh wound...😅

Luckily, that sword-rule is rather vague, and a little blood seems to be enough :-)
Also, did he even try to sheath that sword? If he were an early 21st century human (and he's not, I know that...), it would probably be a cost-optimized, cheap knockoff that doesn't even work properly...

Why only a little blood? It's Gurkha rules.
