In this video I snipped a clip from the Monday Night Tabletop Livestream from January 15, 2023. We were reviewing a video from Loki of Loki's Lair, linked below, and Tim Shorts asked me what advice I would give Loki that would have prevented him from ending the campaign. I also go over some campaign failures of my own.
    Here's Loki's original video:

    Hey Joe!
Loki seems like good people! I watch him too, and I was also sad to hear he felt compelled to end his long-term campaign.
Thanks again for the thoughts and video!

i remember a game I was in like your bronze age, it had no/limited gods. It changed into one where gods came into the world and we went from there with their new clerics. a little like early dragonlance.

great advice! i'm wondering how these campaign advice would be modified for campaigns that the GM expects from the outset will be short (like 10 sessions or so) due to scheduling issues that will end the campaign by then (I'm thinking like, running campaigns in school which limit it to per-semester basis)

I think it all comes down to trying to keep the same concepts in mind, but scaling them back. If you try it let me know how it worked out!

" Your choices of Class and race and everything else.. Its got to fit within the Campaign." This is one of the Major reasons I Hate what they did with 5e, they put all of that into the Players Handbook and made it impossible for DM's to have a world with anything but "monster" player characters. it sets the DM and the Players at odds with each other before they even start the game. Instant argument with 5e players, and even though I live in a small town, with almost nobody to play with, it means I have to eliminate almost everyone who has played 5e from being potential player characters!
I make a comment to Loki, " why would you end your campaign, your campaign is a place, not a story you are try to tell"

I houseruled away any race that didn't exist in AD&D. makes it easier.

@@Joethelawyer The problem with that is, as soon as you house-rule that away, it turns into an argument with the person who wants to play the 1/2 demon Paladin theif character. If your playing with somebody who has never played d&d before, ya, that works, but the premise of 5e is that is the players choice not the DM's, and 5e is all about character creation, not roleplaying a character, people have their character "mapped out" before they even start their first adventure. In stead of trying to houserule 5e out of existence, just try to find totally new players, start of OSR type game, and never look back.
