Comparing historical events and figures from different time periods and contexts can be challenging. Each historical event and figure had their own unique circumstances, challenges, and strategies.
Gandhi's approach of non-violence and civil disobedience was shaped by his beliefs and the specific conditions of the Indian independence movement. He believed in the power of non-violent resistance to bring about social and political change. Gandhi's hunger strikes and peaceful protests were aimed at mobilizing public opinion, highlighting injustice, and putting pressure on the British authorities.
It is important to remember that historical events and figures cannot be judged solely based on the actions or strategies of others. Different individuals and societies adopt different approaches based on their own beliefs, values, and circumstances. The effectiveness or appropriateness of a particular strategy may vary depending on the context and the goals being pursued.
Historical analysis requires a nuanced understanding of the specific historical context and the complexities of the events and individuals involved. Comparing different historical figures and events can be insightful, but it is essential to consider the unique circumstances and challenges they faced before drawing conclusions or making judgments.

@@free_audiobooks The scenario you've presented is a hypothetical one, and it's important to remember that the real-world situations are complex and multifaceted. Gandhi's philosophy of ahimsa (non-violence) was based on the principles of love, truth, and non-violence as a way to resolve conflicts and promote harmony. However, it's essential to consider the practicality and context of implementing such principles in the real world.
In the context of the hypothetical scenario you've described, if Pakistan possesses nuclear weapons and India follows a policy of ahimsa without a strong military, it could potentially lead to security concerns and challenges. In real-world situations, countries have to balance the pursuit of peace and non-violence with ensuring their national security and sovereignty.
Gandhi's principles of non-violence emphasized peaceful resistance, but they were not meant to be blindly followed without considering the context and possible consequences. Gandhi himself recognized the need for self-defense and protection against aggression. In the real world, nations often adopt a combination of diplomatic efforts, non-violent means, and, when necessary, defensive military capabilities to safeguard their interests and maintain stability.
Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence, also known as Satyagraha, did recognize the need for self-defense and protection against aggression in certain situations. While he advocated for non-violent resistance as a principle, he also acknowledged that there might be circumstances where self-defense is necessary to protect oneself and others from harm. Here are some statements made by Gandhi that reflect his views on self-defense:
In his book "Hind Swaraj," Gandhi discussed the concept of non-violence and self-defense. He wrote: "I do believe that, where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence... I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honour than that she should, in a cowardly manner, become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor."
In the context of the Indian freedom struggle, Gandhi recognized the importance of defending oneself against physical harm. He stated: "I have no message to give to the world. I have nothing new to teach. Truth and non-violence are as old as the hills. All I have done is to try experiments in both on as vast a scale as I could. In doing so, I have sometimes erred and learnt by my errors. Life and its problems, its joys and sufferings, its glory and shame, the way of life, etc., are enough for me to grapple with."
Gandhi also emphasized the distinction between self-defense and revenge. He believed in the moral justification of self-defense but rejected violence as a means of seeking revenge or inflicting harm upon others. He stated: "I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent."
These statements show that while Gandhi strongly advocated for non-violence as a guiding principle, he did acknowledge that there might be situations where self-defense becomes a moral imperative. His views on self-defense were contextual and aligned with his larger philosophy of promoting truth, love, and non-violence as essential elements of a just and peaceful society.

The only reason to consider Gandhiji as the Father of the Nation to me is, his contribution in uniting the Congress and providing a vision of Independent India through periodic but strategic methodologies, which till 1915 in India was not working because of uncoordinated efforts and varied objectives of Moderates, Extremists and Revolutionary Terrorists.
Hence, Gandhiji sowed seeds of Nationalism at that very time and nurtured the team spirit till Independence. Many decisions of him were very strategic, mainly to streamline the mass for Independence.
Thus, Godse was wrong. He understood things through a narrowed prism and was focused more on his prejudices than Indian Nation as an identity. Using treachery to murder Gandhiji is surely a Terrorist activity to satiate his prejudiced personal hatred/misconceptions towards/with Gandhiji.

Basically there are the British sources and local sources. People outside Kerala has no idea about the local ones and draws there idea from the British sources. This is the case for both Gandhi and Ambedkar
There are books by people who were present at that time in Malabar(both Muslim and Hindu). These are mostly in Malayalam. These are some that i have refered.

Some faces indeed evolve as the face of the masses and due to this, they are worshipped more. But having a society where everyone can have life without fear is also imperative. And being a leader one possesses a great responsibility as a single statement or move acts as valuable for the masses.

Please clarify this now. Try to justify this.
On page 355 of Volume No 92, there is a description of Gandhi’s prayer gathering in New Delhi on October 18, 1946. It is worded in this manner, “Gandhiji advised the women in East Bengal to commit suicide by poison or some other means to avoid dishonor. Yesterday he told the women to suffocate themselves or to bite their tongues to end their lives.“
Gandhi was, of course, pushing Hindu women to commit suicide in order to tolerate or avoid Muslim atrocities. Why isn’t this kind of Gandhi’s legacy taught in our schools and colleges?
Can someone clarify to me what Gandhi meant by this line? “If every Hindu in East Bengal had been done to death, I would not have minded it. After all, why did Gandhi place little value on the lives of Hindus?

India has diversity in religion and culture. Gandhiji and Netaji understood very well the importance of Indian secularism and uniting all people towards the goal of poorna swaraj. While Netaji chose the path of armed revolution; Gandhiji always believed in the ultra new concept of 'Non-violence and Non-cooperation'- we could have achieved in 1942 if Gandhiji didn't pull out due to a single incidence on violence (it was a matter of principle and not politics). Gandhiji's this decision of withdrawal was a political blunder.
The British divided India into 5 parts and the same English bloodline (England, USA, Canada, Australia New Zealand), is still putting seeds of division in a diverse India by whatever means possible - may it be caste, religion or culture, The recent support to the stupid Khalistan movement by these English speaking nations is a classic example. Wake up India - the dangers of English hypocrisy still looms over the world

I ask once more why did Gandhi ji oppose Subhash Chandra Bose in 1939 when Bose became the Congress president with a huge mandate? It will not be irrelevant to mention that Subhash Chandra Bose cleared the Indian civil services with a few months preparation when the exam used to be much more challenging for the native Indians to discourage them from joining executive offices of the British Government in India. Infact, after constituting the Congress socialist party within inc Subhas Chandra Bose gave the finest economic roadmap for realising the socialist pattern of development in independent India which had hardly ever been given by any other leader. Even the Five Year Plan strategy was formulated by Bose in INC and pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was made the chairperson of the committee and all of these are happening in the 1930s.Furthermore, what never finds mention is his contribution to ideas related to future nation-building. How many students of this generation know that it was Netaji who was as much a mastermind behind the Economic Planning that was adopted in post-independent India as Jawaharlal Nehru is credited to be? Textbooks on post-independent Indian history, which deal with the Five-Year Plans extensively, never discuss this fact. Well-known historians like Bipan Chandra and Ramachandra Guha do not even mention Bose’s name in the context of Economic Planning.
The politics runs so deep that Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the architect of the Second Five Year Plan, in his book Talks on Planning, called Jawaharlal Nehru the pioneer of economic planning in India.
The economic vision and organisational calibre of a young man very much younger than Gandhi ji drew huge popularity within the inc itself. This is proven by the fact that Bose had elected twice as the president of inc. So why did Gandhi ji oppose Bose in the Tripuri session even after Bose was elected the president and not only opposed but also nominated Pattabhi Sitarmayya instead of Bose??

There are many videos that tilt towards Godse, yet people don't mention that fact often. There is nothing wrong to tilt away from an ideology of violence.
"But the German persecution of the Jews seems to have no parallel in history. The tyrants of old never went so mad as Hitler seems to have gone. And he is doing it with religious zeal. For, he is propounding a new religion of exclusive and militant nationalism in the name of which any inhumanity becomes an act of humanity to be rewarded here and hereafter. The crime of an obviously mad but intrepid youth is being visited upon his whole race with unbelievable ferocity. If there ever could be a justifiable war in the name of and for humanity, a war against Germany to prevent the wanton persecution of a whole race, would be completely justified. But I do not believe in any war. A discussion of the pros and cons of such a war is, therefore, outside my horizon or province.
But if there can be no war against Germany, even for such a crime as is being committed against the Jews, surely there can be no alliance with Germany. How can there be alliance between a nation which claims to stand for justice and democracy and one which is the declared enemy of both? Or is England drifting towards armed dictatorship and all it means?
Germany is showing to the world how efficiently violence can be worked when it is not hampered by any hypocrisy or weakness masquerading as humanitarianism.
It is also showing how hideous, terrible and terrifying it looks in its nakedness.
Can the Jews resist this organized and shameless persecution? Is there a way to preserve their self-respect and not to feel helpless, neglected and forlorn? I submit there is.
person who has faith in a living God need feel helpless or forlorn; Jehovah of the Jews is a God more personal and the God of the Christians, the Mussalmans or the Hindus, though as a matter of fact, in essence, He is common to all and one without a second and beyond description. But as the Jews attribute personality to God and believe that He rules every action of theirs, they ought not to feel helpless. If I were a Jew and were born in Germany and earned my livelihood there, I would claim. Germany as my home even as the tallest gentile German might, and challenge him to shoot me or cast me in the dungeon; I would refuse to be expelled or to submit to discriminating treatment. And for doing this I should not wait for the fellow Jews to join me in civil resistance, but would have confidence that in the end the rest were bound to follow my example. If one Jew or all the Jews were to accept the prescription here offered, he or they cannot be worse off than now. And suffering voluntarily undergone will bring them an inner strength and joy which no number of resolutions of sympathy passed in the world outside Germany can."
      Source: Harijan, 26-11-1938
Mahatma Gandhi also wrote a letter to Hitler in 1940. Here's a part of it:
"Our rulers may have our land and bodies but not our souls. They can have the former only by complete destruction of every Indian-man, woman and child. That all may not rise to that degree of heroism and that a fair amount of frightfulness can bend the back of revolt is true but the argument would be beside the point. For, if a fair number of men and women be found in India who would be prepared without any ill will against the spoliators to lay down their lives rather than bend the knee to them, they would have shown the way to freedom from the tyranny of violence. I ask you to believe me when I say that you will find an unexpected number of such men and women in India. They have been having that training for the past 20 years. We have been trying for the past half a century to throw off the British rule. The movement of independence has been never so strong as now. The most powerful political organization, I mean the Indian National Congress, is trying to achieve this end. We have attained a very fair measure of success through nonviolent effort. We were groping for the right means to combat the most organized violence in the world which the British power represents. You have challenged it. It remains to be seen which is the better organized, the German or the British. We know what the British heel means for us and the non-European races of the world. But we would never wish to end the British rule with German aid. We have found in non-violence a force which, if organized, can without doubt match itself against a combination of all the most violent forces in the world. In nonviolent technique, as I have said, there is no such thing as defeat. It is all ‘do or die’ without killing or hurting. It can be used practically without money and obviously without the aid of science of destruction which you have brought to such perfection. It is a marvel to me that you do not see that it is nobody’s monopoly. If not the British, some other power will certainly improve upon your method and beat you with your own weapon. You are leaving no legacy to your people of which they would feel proud. They cannot take pride in a recital of cruel deed, however skilfully planned. I, therefore, appeal to you in the name of humanity to stop the war. You will lose nothing by referring all the matters of dispute between you and Great Britain to an international tribunal of your joint choice. If you attain success in the war, it will not prove that you were in the right. It will only prove that your power of destruction was greater. Whereas an award by an impartial tribunal will show as far as it is humanly possible which party was in the right. You know that not long ago I made an appeal to every Briton to accept my method of non-violent resistance. I did it because the British know me as a friend though a rebel. I am a stranger to you and your people. I have not the courage to make you the appeal I made to every Briton. Not that it would not apply to you with the same force as to the British. But my present proposal is much simple because much more practical and familiar. During this season when the hearts of the peoples of Europe yearn for peace, we have suspended even our own peaceful struggle. Is it too much to ask you to make an effort for peace during a time which may mean nothing to you personally but which must mean much to the millions of Europeans whose dumb cry for peace I hear, for my ears are attuned to hearing the dumb millions?"
These are Mahatma Gandhi's views on the Jewish question. He did go quite far for his principles, but he was certainly not an ally of destruction.

Not really. Mr. Gandhi was a servant of the British Empire. Congress party was established in 1885 by Allan Octavian Hume (A British govt officer) because the Britishers wanted to create an Indian-led body that could act as the mediator between the large Indian public and the small no. of British rulers. As per the safety wall theory, Congress was constructed by the British as a safety wall for the British, who could be used to make people feel represented, but when revolutionaries like Bose would stand up, the British used Congress as a safety wall by pitting the Naram Dal leaders against the Garam Dal. And that made Bose leave congress in 1929-1930. Mohandas Gandhi was also a lawyer. He practiced law on behalf of the British empire. He went to South Africa, participated in local politics and made sure that the British govt stays stable there. He was also made a military officer by the British, to fight the Boer war on behalf of the British. After that, there is one incident where Mr. Gandhi makes this statement against the local black people there, calling "the white race as more superior to the black race and the blacks must always be subservient." These are his thoughts. Gandhi is the best example of Champak Chacha from Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma serial, where all Champak Chacha does is pravachanbaazi, and shouts from the balcony to everyone in the ground, who were arguing, but never really comes out and loses even a drop of blood. British PM Clement Attlee is on record, saying that Gandhi's contribution to India's freedom struggle was minimal. And most of the damage that was caused to the British, was due to the 1946 Indian Naval Rebellion. (I don't wish to call it mutiny here coz mutiny is again a colonial term to suppress revolutionary Indians.) Though I have certain disagreements with the BJP on some things, I can ask that those who today accuse the BJP of its parent and ideological organization being the RSS and Hindu Mahasabha, they must first ask Congress who their parent was? Allan Octavian Hume? A British secretary? So at least the current administration is better than having a regime whose parent organization is the British govt, and were somehow ruling India for about 50-60 years. Those who had personal assistants and book writers for them while they were kept in 5 star jails, people think they contributed to India's freedom. And those who were given the Kolhu ka Bail punishment, in Kala Pani for 12 years, and were kept for more than 20 years under watch, in Ratnagiri, we didn't even learn about them in our books. Gandhi ko binding agent nahi, British agent bolna chahiye.

@@chinmayjoshi4539 Gandhi's independence movement was not a puppet of the British Empire. While it is true that the British initially allowed the establishment of the Indian National Congress as a means to engage with Indian leaders, it eventually became a platform for nationalist aspirations. Over time, the Congress leaders, including Gandhi, asserted their independence and demanded complete self-rule for India.
Gandhi's struggle for Indian rights in South Africa: Gandhi's experience in South Africa shaped his political ideology and commitment to non-violent resistance. While he initially represented the interests of the Indian community there, he also fought against racial discrimination and injustice, which brought him into conflict with the British colonial authorities.
Gandhi's role in the Indian freedom struggle: Gandhi's leadership and non-violent resistance played a crucial role in mobilizing the Indian masses and creating a united front against British rule. His Salt March and Quit India Movement were powerful demonstrations of mass civil disobedience that shook the foundations of British rule in India.
Gandhi's commitment to truth and non-violence: Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence and truth (Satyagraha) was not mere "pravachanbaazi" (sermonizing) but a deeply held belief that influenced his actions and decisions. He led by example and faced numerous hardships, including imprisonment, in pursuit of justice and freedom.
Clement Attlee's statement:He never said that, Attlee did write in his autobiography "As It Happened" that "The credit for Indian independence must go to Gandhi. He was primarily responsible for it. He brought the Indian National Congress together, which was the most important thing. Nehru and the others did carry on the campaign but Gandhi was the initiator."
As for a British official statement acknowledging the role of non-violence in Indian independence, Lord Louis Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, said in his farewell speech on August 15, 1947:
"The credit for achieving this great task must go largely to Gandhi, who, as the world knows, was the outstanding figure in the Indian national movement. It was his genius for leadership which made British withdrawal possible."
Contribution of other freedom fighters: India's struggle for independence was indeed a collective effort, and many freedom fighters made significant sacrifices for the cause. Bose, the Indian Naval Rebellion, and other revolutionary movements also played vital roles in challenging British rule and contributing to India's eventual independence. But u have to understand that every one had equal role,
Congress as the parent organization: While the Indian National Congress was initially established by Allan Octavian Hume, it evolved into a nationalist organization representing the aspirations of the Indian people. Gandhi and other leaders reshaped its agenda and policies to advocate for self-rule and independence.
It is crucial to recognize that history is complex and multifaceted, and different perspectives may exist on the same events and individuals. While there may be criticisms of certain aspects of Gandhi's approach or the Indian independence movement, it is essential to acknowledge the overall impact and significance of their contributions to India's journey towards freedom.

    Some points to be noted:
    1. Gandhi may not be directly responsible for Partition but he allowed it and created an "Islamic State-Pakistan, and a Secular State-India". This point clears that Hindus didn't wanted the partition but to "Appease Muslims" Gandhi allowed forming of an Islamic state. Which illegally occupied a part of Kashmir later.
2.Gandhi even was thinking to make Mohammad Jinaah the Prime Minister of India to stop Muslims from forming Pakistan. Which is clear case of Muslim appeasement in a Secular Country with majority of Hindus.
    3. After Partition, when a part of Kashmir was illegally occupied by Pakistan then India denied the cash balance of Rs.55 Crs to Pakistan which was again given to them because of Gandhi Ji's "Bhuk Hadtal". This again is another case of Muslim appeasement and not also about Muslims of India but Pakistanis, even after they illegally occupied our Kashmir Provinces.
So, despite so many compromises made by "Majority Hindu Population of Secular India", our beloved Gandhiji was still offering Muslim's: Positions, Money, Area and Power to maintain good relations between Hindu and Muslims And appeasing them(Even Pakistanis). So according to me Nathuram Godse did the Right Thing by assassinating biased Gandhiji. Jai Hind. Jai Bharat🇮🇳

      @sanjaysrivastava4994 Před 11 měsíci +13

So I think I must clarify:
      1. The partition of India was primarily driven by political and communal factors, including the demand for a separate Muslim-majority state by the All India Muslim League, led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The British government, which held colonial control over India at that time, also played a pivotal role in the partition process.
Gandhi consistently advocated for Hindu-Muslim unity and worked towards communal harmony throughout his life. He strongly opposed the idea of partition and did everything in his power to prevent it. However, the deeply entrenched communal tensions and political realities of the time proved to be significant challenges.
      2. there is no evidence to support the claim that Mahatma Gandhi offered Muhammad Ali Jinnah the post of Prime Minister of India to prevent the formation of Pakistan. Gandhi's vision was for a united, secular India, and he worked tirelessly to foster understanding and peace between religious communities. While there were negotiations and discussions between various leaders during that time, there is no credible evidence to suggest that Gandhi offered Jinnah the position of Prime Minister to prevent the partition.
3.That claim of 55 crore is complete fake info.
He advocated for equal treatment and respect for all religious communities.

    Dear CZcamsr,
I suggest you make one more video on Godse. What I personally beg you to cover in the new video are below given six points. All we said in the video is that Gandhi was not doing Muslim appeasement and was not in favour of division. It was very high level and superficial. What we need is very factual, detailed, event based analysis. I have heard some part of Godse's speech in court. He had made some very specific events based accusations and claims against Gandhi. We did not talk at all about them in the video. It felt like we don't have any answers for those questions Godse asked and we are trying to dodge those questions and hastily declaire him as terrorist. The main accusations are as follows
    1. Gandhi never said a word about Hindu being slaughtered and tortured in Pakistan. Never bothered to condemn Jina or Pakistan or Muslims for that
    2. Gandhi also said that Hindus from Pakistan shouldn't run to India to avoid the hell of slaughter and torture. They should stay in Pakistan.
    3. Gandhi never went on fast when Hindus were being killed on direct action day or for Hindus being killed in Pakistan because he knew that his fast won't have effect on Jina and muslims. Actually the fast begun when Hindu started retaliation in India and government denied the money to pakistan.
    4. First condition to break Gandhi fast was to muscle out all the suffering Hindu and Sikh immigrants taking shelter in masjid of Delhi. And when that was done, some went to Gandhi for shelter in birla house but gandhi didn't even bother take notice of them.
    5. Gandhi blackmailed Indian government by the means of his fast to give Pakistan money being fully aware that the money shall be definitely used against india in Kashmir and in various other matters.
    6. If some newspapers wrote about slaughter of Hindu happening in Pakistan those days, those newspapers were being blamed for disturbing Hindu Muslim unity and were stopped from publishing such news.
In my personal opinion, if above accusations are correct then Godse was really Deshbhakt and gandhi was doing Muslim appeasement. If those accusations are false then we can call godse terrorist.

How was Gandhi already aware of how Pakistan will use the money? If Gandhi had no leverage with Jinnah or muslims - why would he go on a fast to stop them? I was just listing Godse's point of view. Pakistan was fighting India in Kashmir at the time. Battle was fresh and was on peak. Battles are most expensive. On the top of that, pakistan never tried to hide that they considered india as enemy even in 1947. In the middle of such mess, a huge money transfer to pakistan. It did not take a genius to guess how they would use the money. And gandhi was a genius. Some people say that the money was rightfully Pakistan's. It was not.Because when a nation divides in two, both nations share assets as well as liabilities. So Pakistan was supposed to share some of debt as well. They shared none. Mr.Patel was just showing jinna that there are some serious consequences to his action. There was nothing unethical with that. But gandhi forced him with fast.
He could not stop jinna and muslims but stopped Hindus. The point was he could have started the fast to force government to take strict millitary action against rioting muslims in India BEFORE Hindus started retaliation. He could have forced government to start deplomatic dialogue to migrate Hindus in Pakistan to India peacefully rather than saying that they should stay in Pakistan and die.And should not have muscled suffering Hindu and Sikh out of masjid. That would had protected Hindus.Rioting people needed to learn a lesson that there are consequences for their doing. he could had atleast done it in india. At the very least, he could have condemned the jinna and rioting community in strongest words. And if he could not do any of that, then atleast he should have stayed silent when Hindus started retaliation

The real blame for Hindu-Muslim violence after independence goes to Jinnah, not Gandhi, because Jinnah called for Muslims in Bangladesh and Pakistan to kill Hindus until Gandhi and Nehru agreed to the partition. Came here to learn something new.
    But extremely disappointed.
Point of this video was trying to prove what you already believed in.
Gandhiji never wanted hindus to die, but his policies did killed many hindus.
If he never wanted partition, why didn't he stop it ,he let that happen, tab muslim leaders ke against satyagrah kyu nahi kiya .
And offering jinnah PM post to avoid partition? isn't it pure appeasement.
Who made him representative of whole hindu community! ofcourse hindus were going to have a problem with such an offer.
You completely missed the background incidents of violence against hindus since few decades.
They were real and painful experiences and shaped the life of nathuram.
ou argued everytime that gandhi just wanted hindu Muslim unity to justify his actions, but what about those hindus who were killed /sidelined by muslims , won't they feel cheated . Were they ever compensated?
Did gandhiji gave any advice to muslims ? Everything was for hindu followers, a community u can bend and mend easily.
Lastly why to do satyagrah now , for an "evil" state like Pakistan who captured our lands. He knew very well how he can bend hindus to listen to him , and that muslims would let him die of hunger.
I didn't know many of these facts before the video , but the incidents mentioned in your this video is itself enough to see the muslim appeasement going on!
And your shitty arguments to justify Gandhiji's action who took hindu community for granted , who would never unite and rebel against his policies, whom he would let die in thousands without any practical action to stop it just for being called secular in books of history .
The man disappointed/cheated lakhs of people and indirectly killed millions.
Well lastly, I don't know about the killing, right or wrong?
But definitely Gandhiji was doing muslim appeasement and he wronged hindu community to a certain level.and nathuram or narayan apte were born out of this uncompensated resentment.

For your formation, sir, Gandhi did not hate the British rulers. He hated first the inequalities among th Indians themselves. Annie Besant the founder of Home Rule for India presided over a meeting at the Banaras university in 1920. Among those dignitaries present were the Viceroy and many rich and powerful Indians. All guests arrived by the latest Rolls Royce and modern private transportation Gandhi arrived by rickshaw. Gandhi was given just five minutes talking time. He was the last speaker. From the start he began his attack on the front row rich Indians. He alleged while driving through the streets they missed so much of India's misseries. He called on the Ranies and Maharanis and the rich to shed some of the glorious jewellers and care for the poor and the needy. The Rajas wore gold studded turbans. When they started to leave Mrs. Besant hushed Gandhi down. He was aware that they were not interested in India's independence or selfrule. They were happy to keep the status quo. The students roared their approval, while affluent left ashmed. The Viceroy was shocked.
