Godhra kand is one of the most horrifying incidents in the history of communal riots. Thousands of people lost lives in both Hindu and Muslim communities. These riots started from a train and soon engulfed all of Gujarat.

YOu rightly pointed out one very important fact, vengeance was taken but against a wrong group who had nothing to do with the Godhra attack When we look at the ground reality, especially the atrocities faced by the victims of both the community, it is heart-wrenching. My heart goes out to all the victims of the train and then people died 200kms away. This incident is a black spot in our society for sure.

Last year i was doing training in Railways while living in Vadodara, there is Chhayapuri station in Vadodara itself.
I had to go home from there. Our train often stopped at Godhra at night. To be honest, looking at the station from the window of the train used to make me uneasy. My heart shuddered at the mine thought of that dreadful scene.😞

I saw it from Nadiad, it went in full speed. no riots started on the same evening, riots started early morning hours. vhp had no authority on dead bodies, youngsters were there helping to seperate the charred bodies stuck to the train caracass. A calf barely a few hours after birth is cruelly thrown on the road in bitter cold only because the poor thing's owner is showing his support towards a political party or some caste or persons from which he is getting some advantage. No animal NGOS will ever fight for the dead calf because they also have their political greed. The police is just like this. You can be burned to death by criminals in your neighbourhood. You can be beaten to death by thieves and maidservants but the police officers will sit smugly in thanas and support the side which give them the most advantage. You can't prove these type of corruption just as you can't prove that the bike which crushed your street canine did not do it accidentally. He or she did it intentionally. You can't punish those people who were there on the streets watching this horrible torture of an innocent animal by such cunning and corrupt greedy person and laughing among themselves. You can't stop yourself from despising such a society. They will not open their mouth against that person or woman. Why? Because it's not them or their family. The police is also like this. Being from Gujarat it was clear how the coaches burnt and there also was people from other coaches who knew what happened. The riots were shameful and unfortunate. But 2 things 1) coaches weren't burnt from outside. 2) karsevaks in the coaches were not allowed to go out when the coaches were burning. 3) news channels then showed photos (which are now banned) of dead bodies of kar sevaks and the coaches and those were extremely disturbing. 4) In riots people from every religion died. 5) Riots were definately organised and people were provided with weapons.
Is that third report right that karsevaks in whole train and S5 & S6 can or can't have just karsevaks?
And BJP was ruling in both Center and State. The IB has already warned about the threat to Karsevaks, The RPF, GRP, CID, and all state machinery knew that Karsevaks were traveling on the train. The incident did not happen in a jungle or isolated place but on a busy station. Seems Those few hundred were much smarter than the government and all aegnices, who planned and executed in full public view the murder.
Or the truth was, those few karsevaks were offered as aahuti and were used as bait to incite those murderers and instill fear and phobia in mind of majority voters and rule the nation.

@@wethepeople1680 the stove doesn’t explode itself without any gas with it. There were no incident or a rumor that’s some one was carrying gas they would’ve known from the burnt metal at least of the cylinder. Also a single stove won’t light up two coaches at one time.

Godhra is a Muslim majority town and the place where this incident of train burning happened was close to many low class Muslims who had a history of being involved in unlawful activities. The place Godhra itself had a history of religious clashes started by Muslims .

Good Analysis!! It is a complicated issue to cover. One thing no one discusses or any SIT has covered, is the role of media in fanning rumors thereby acting as a catalyst in spreading the riots. As you rightly pointed out, various media houses were already fanning emotions all over India when the actual 'kar seva' was taking place in Ayodhya. Local media added more fuel to the incidents happening in the train giving it a communal color.
For e.g. the incident of kar sevaks abusing Muslim tea vendor in Godhra on the way to Ayodhya was reported in local media with a communal color.
I think it was around the year 2000 that there had been a proliferation of news channels and cable TVs had their own new channels spreading fake news all over. None of the Govts had any control over these news channels as all of them were afraid to target media or stop media from reporting. I think more than any government agencies, it was these media houses that did more damage during the riots.
Tehelka had no business in doing sting operations and even if it had done, should not have released the content in public. Tehelka did it just so that their popularity increase in the new world of media. Even today, media sensationalize small local events and give them a communal color. Unless media stop reporting events with a communal color, there is always a danger of some small event triggering a bigger event. For e.g. if there is a fight in a local train, media will report it as 'some hindu goons attack minority boy' or if there is a misunderstanding between a shopkeeper and a customer, media will report as 'muslim shopkeeper deny access to hindu customer'. This kind of reporting is what divides people on communal lines. Remember, British used this kind of reporting and publication to divide Hindus based on caste lines, in which they largely succeeded.
Only thing, we, as citizens should do is ensure that such events do not recur in our country and make sure that all communities are well protected and living peacefully. And yes, do not blindly believe in what the media or internet says. And local leaders should not believe media and use that to do propaganda.

Yes keep on blaming media and not total failure of state administration in controlling the situation. Why was procession of dead bodies even allowed through Ahmedabad, such things are incitement not media reporting some incidents. If media reports something, doesn't mean ppl start killing other communities, did NHRC report mention things you said about media? He did not mention role of police who were asked to turn a blind eye to violence. Naroda Patiya incident is just one example. If media reports there is less security in certain area, it means state administration sends police to that area and actually provide security to citizens and not let rioters commit crimes they want. Sanjeev Bhatt was very well respected officer even among prisoners, he had refused to follow modi's orders to give free hand to rioters. Some twenty year old case of custodial death was opened against him though that prisoner was not even in his custody and he is in jail. He did not mention Haren Pandya was a b jp mla and minister. He had given incriminating statements against modi in court. How he is magically killed? Doesn't take rocket scientist to guess. He also did not tell Supreme Court order from 2004 which called Modi modern day Nero for turning blind eye while Gujarat burned. Witnesses were under constant threat and many cases were moved out of Gujarat. Teesta Setalvad's human rights group secured 120 convictions in 68 cases. Today she is herself in jail under bogus charges without even conducting investigation. He also did not tell Ehsan Jaffri, Congress MP - police chief had met him before riots at his society. Jaffri had also directly called modi and pleaded for protection but modi abused him and cut the call. Entire society of 30 or so ppl was burned alive at Gulbarg Society including his family except his wife who somehow escaped. You are actually blaming Tehelka for conducting sting operation and getting unflitered truth. Good news for you, even babu bajrangi is out on bail, he was out on bail dozen times before this so this time he will not go back to jail again. Maya Kodnani is acquitted. This is ugly truth of India.
