There are youth organizations who demand different things from their elected leaders. Some want employment, some want reservation, but now there are youth groups who want wives! Yes, a lot of men in India - especially in states like Haryana - are unable to find wives and therefore aren't getting married. Why is this happening? I was born in Haryana, but later moved to Jharkhand.
The first thing which I noticed after coming to Jharkhand was that in my class the girl population seemed more, which was indeed true. In my school in Haryana, there were 23 boys and 7 girls, while the same in Jharkhand was 25 girls and 30 boys.
I remember that I once heard my mom talking on the phone that there are no girls in Haryana. 😅

As a 25M, I feel the concept of marriage nowadays to be a kind of big business deal and nothing else. You study well, graduate from a good college, make a decent salary but the moment you hear about marriage people say you don't have a house, car, you have this much loan and what not. They are simply saying WHAT YOU HAVE IS NOT ENOUGH. Of course people can earn this over a period of time, but what's the point of marrying someone who doesn't want to be on your side when you are working hard, struggling but wants the fruitful results alone? It is better not to get married than ending up with a person who judges you for your materialistic possessions.

Let me give you an example of the same in my actual real life experience, i have a friend who works in IT he is almost 29, he is actively looking for a bride and so when he got a match with a girl, her father was a driver of some sort with monthly income of 10K , my friend said if the girl is good thats all that matters and he went to see the girl , but the father of the girl rejected him saying he doesn't earn much, the package of my friend is 15lac per annum 🤦♂️

In today's society, there is immense pressure to live up to certain expectations when it comes to financial stability and material possessions. While I may be able to provide for my own basic needs, I worry that I may not be able to meet the high standards that are often expected in a marriage.

It seems to be a global issue. I've spent more than five years residing in Korea. I came to know that most of my Korean friends are not interested in getting married when we talk about marriage. Compared to India, Korea has a substantially larger percentage of single people. Even girls do not desire marriage. This is due to the high living standards, independent lifestyle, unstable financial situation, and many other factors. And unfortunately, it's become a common issue within several parts of India nowadays!

I have also decided to stay unmarried in my life and it's my firm and final decision. What I believe is that marriage must be optional and not be enforced upon by family/society. And I am happy that my family is educated and agrees with my decision. Our Constitution grants us right to live our life our way.

As somebody who continues to battle mental issues, I think that it would be incorrect to state that only men in Indian society don't get to talk about their mental health. In reality, nobody in Indian society gets to talk about mental health. It is still a taboo subject outside the urban upper middle class Indian society. Concepts of depression & stress are seen by an average Indian as fanciful terms used only by the elites of Lutyen's Delhi & South Bombay. Visiting a psychiatrist is considered equivalent to being certified insane in the larger society. This is mostly because of the fact that the school curriculum doesn't discusses about it unless one enters medical college & the resulting lack of interest for it in the public. All of this results in cases of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder & multiple personality disorder being tagged as ghostly/demonic possession, people silently suffering under family members with intermittent explosive disorder, children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder being not cared properly, post-traumatic stress disorder being hushed up & a host of other societal problems.

You see, historically, tension and stress have never been lower than today. while today we worry abt competition, back in those days ppl worried abt life and death. the factor that has changed is our ability to cope with that shit. ppl are getting mentally ill simply bcz their patience has decreased over the ages. thats the lowp oint of technology. instant gratifications, fast travel, consuming american cuisine while looking at our phones. in between our lifestyles, we have no breaks to simply think and observe. to contemplate abt the event of the day. to think where we could have compromised, to think where we could have won. all the time our mind has learned to be occupied so much that whenever there comes a time we are unable to occupy ourselves, all hell breaks lose, we start observing how deep we r already in the abyss. in a nation where we already have simple free solutions, even in them all we do is click photos and post to get likes. what else do you expect. our parents might not have gone through the immense competition but then they also didnt have all those mental issues so frequently. these days kids so randomly say they are depressed that it has lost all its meaning here. poor marks? depressed. lost a game?depressed. i mean wtf. not in a relationship? depressed. cmon ppl. all it takes is 15 mins in a day to sit straight close your eyes and focus on anything. no cameras no devices. just think. start there and slowly progress towards say your faith. all it takes is to not look at the phones during those bus rides and metro rides. all it takes is to have less oily food and more roti sabji. change your lifestyle, accept your reality. even a psychiatrist can only hear you. its not that effective when you really spend all that money.

I'm from a land owning caste from the South of India. It is said that 90℅ of those from my caste own atleast an acre of land. We had the problem of finding brides until 5 to 8 years ago due to the problem of skewed sex ratio within the caste. During late 80s and 90s our fellow caste mates had access to scanning and gender determination, thru which, female fetesus were aborted, resulting in skewed sex ratio. Therefore the boys born during late 80s and early 90 had a hard time finding girls within the community. The girls available had a far superior bargaining power. A bcom graduated, stay at home girl was able to get a husband who worked in Microsoft or Google. The less well off boys had to go to Kerala to find girls or marry someone from an immediate lower caste. However, by 2015 the sex ratio had largely been fixed as the abortion of female fetuses stopped by late 90s. The gender ratio has now reached 1:1 in our community.. However, it is still difficult for guys to find girls for marriage, the reason now being, a lot of girls (to some extent guys as well) see married life as a restrictive and compromised lifestyle. Many families are ready to keep their girls single rather than go in for a compromised marriage. As a result, in the region I come from, there are about 5 females and 10 males who are unmarried in every single village. We can already see the side effects of it. Less marriage, less children and a lesser labor force. We do not have even the basic labor force to maintain our farms. The little labor available is expensive. Currently we depend heavily on immigrants from UP, Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand and WB.. Not sure when their supply will run out..
Yeah i agree, people are thinking not marrying will make them happy but it's a disguised curse for the future generations which we can't see now because of less examples here but if we see western countries and highly developed countries like Korea and Japan they are into bigger problem of drastically decreasing population and depressed youths. People are changing the laws.. but for whom ? When there will be no future generations what will be the need of such things, really short-sighted thinking.

@@kdjoshi726 well, the problem is, we are all to some extent scared of the cultural shift bro. For now, we have enough labor to maintain the farm. The issue is, we are in a dubious phase. For generations, we have used local labor, accustomed to our language and culture. All of a sudden, their supply ran out or came at prices Unaffordable. As a result, we currently use immigrants from other states to work on our farms, who speak a different language, it's like every landowner is nervous, yet has no option but to employ them...

You forgot to mention very important reasons for Indian men staying away from marriage, which are The fake cases, Alimony, Maintenance and the law being unfair and biased towards women. These are some of the reasons which makes many Indian men scared of getting married as it adds a risk of losing their wealth.

Agreed. There are many such cases where a good earning boy under family and relatives pressure was married to such a girl whose brother or sister was Spendthrift. Many a time such boys have to carry-on with such unwanted responsibilities even when the boy side never demanded a single dowry.
I remember a suicide cases where a husband committed suicide just because all his bank balance was spend in care taking of his in-laws and because of it he was unable to get a good treatment of his ailing father. As a result his father died and in depression and regret the guy committed suicide.
Not all boys are bad and not all girls are good. The above cases shall never come to lime light because boys are meant to escape goats for all evils of society.

I think one of the major reasons is that true love is mostly gone nowadays. If one person still has it, the person they like doesn't. This leads to lesser amount of happy relationships, which in turn reduces love marriages. And many people don't want to do arranged marriages for many reasons out of which some may be debatable.

Maintenance can not be denied over adultery charges. So wife can have an affair and still can claim maintenance, alimony from husband.
Imagine you have to pay to your spouse permanent alimony/monthly maintenance no matter how capable she is financially, just because it is supposed to be a "sacred" duty of men to maintain family.
And I expect, this trend to go upwards once the amendment is made to criminalise marital rape is brought as recommended by Law Commission Report.
It will be interesting to see how the burden of proof will be determined in such cases.
