This isn't really a spoiler or anything since it won't ever be adapted, but the author of the novel has gone on to say from a Q&A:
Q: Now that their eldest son Subaru has been summoned to another world, what’s the situation in the Natsuki household? They seem like a couple that it wouldn’t be too surprising if they chased after him to the other world.
A: They’re enduring the disappearance of their eldest son somehow or other. The police investigation has no leads, and Kenichi is trying to comfort Naoko but it’s not that effective. They’re passing each day tearfully.

I remember feeling SO CALLED OUT by the scene of him staring at the clock. I did the exact same thing filled with a sense of raising anxiety and dread. Once it was too late it was easier to excuse not going, and making that decision would relieve some of the anxiety…

Tappei has said this in a QnA
Q: Now that their eldest son Subaru has been summoned to another world, what’s the situation in the Natsuki household? They seem like a couple that it wouldn’t be too surprising if they chased after him to the other world.**
A: They’re enduring the disappearance of their eldest son somehow or other. The police investigation has no leads, and Kenichi is trying to comfort Naoko but it’s not that effective. They’re passing each day tearfully.
This is a heartbreaking conformation that Subaru’s disappearance hurt his family more than he can even imagine.
And also the scene with Subaru’s mother saying “Take Care” can be interpreted differently as well. In Japanese culture this saying would translate to Subaru’s mom saying “Please comeback safely” and Subaru should have said “I’ll go and I’ll comeback”. But when the last time Subaru saw his mother. He didn’t replied back to her. Subaru’s mom could have interpreted this as when Subaru was leaving home, he did not had any intention of coming back. There is a high chance that Subaru’s mom thinks that Subaru took his own life.

That 8:00 AM was a panic attack. So for Subaru probably the panic attacks occur at the time he is supposed to go to school which is why Subaru also knows the specific time they occur at
This is speculation from someone who is an anime only but i am familiar with panic attacks

They could be. But as someone that skipped things because of social anxiety (and still does) or other reasons I always look for excuses. "Oh' it's already x time' I won't make it"' "I skipped this class x times so at this point is pointless to go"
I think this is mainly what the scene is trying to convey. I don't want to decide if I want to skip or do the "right thing", so I let external things like the clock do it for me.

As someone who's read both the light novels and webnovel, Subaru's basically introduced as having panic attacks in volume 1 already: he gets flustered talking with Emilia and it describes how in the tense silence cold sweat formed on his forehead and then additionally at his armpits and he started to get heart palpitations and something like an allergic reaction in his nose(only loosely paraphrasing!)...
Basically Tappei introduces it in a jokey looking way but by arc 2/volume 2 it's already much more serious in tone (he self harmed to stay awake and refused to eat anything out of paranoia before Emilia made him eat and Beatrice made the contract to protect him after which he fell asleep and was carried to the library). Elements which look like a joke at first often transform either into serious character development or plot details, eg Ram being worse at chores and falling asleep teaching Subaru is actually because her lost horn means she relies on Roswaal to provide mana for her body to function and basically has chronic fatigue /pain but doesn't show it because she's Ram. And how Ferris pretends to flirt with Subaru to trick the witch cultist merchant.
Subaru is both physically active, steadily accumulating mental illness/symptoms and doesn't have the best social skills to begin with.

Subaru does train every day, he mentioned it in ep 1.
If I'm remembering correctly, he does like 100 squats and 100 pushes.

So I think the part about being left alone by his "friends" is pretty simple and we all can relate to it. Being the class clown is fun and feels nice because people want you around, you like to feel like you make everybody happy and that you're indispensable for them. But then time passes and people move on and start getting serious about their lives and you realize they prefer other people now. You were only the clown who made school fun and classes bearable. They only liked you as long as you entertained them. Once life moves on they don't even remember you as a person anymore.

@@seanjohnson3401 Subaru didn’t answer back to his mom cuz he thought if he answered his mother would have make him wash the cup of chocolate he left behind.
That was the only reason he didn’t answered back to his mom and now this has become Subaru’s one of the biggest regrets.

For reference, the entirety of season 2 is (an abridged version of) the novels' Arc 4, which is bigger than the first three arcs combined (Season 1). Arc 7 has been finished relatively recently and is even more colossal. And Tappei plans to go something like 10 or 11 arcs before ending the story.
So yes, there is _a lot_ to cover.

You're right that he didn't seem to do anything obviously bad(I mean graffiti is only really impressive when it's artistic lol) it's more that he acted like he does in the series like a clown and they grew bored of him. Subaru tends to put on an act and gradually get depressed underneath, and tbh none of the family exactly fit into Japanese culture. I always think the things which made him a bit of an outcast at home are why he does well in the re zero world.

Subaru has to be the most relatable character I have seen in any story, for me personally that is, I see a lot of myself in him, his thought process, I remember watching this episode for the first time and it hit like a truck. Worth mentioning the amazing voice acting too!

Where is the discussion? You're not doing them any more on a couple of your resent reactions; I think it's a bad choice to give up on discussing the episode you watch. And I know most viewers don't care about it, but you should still do them, even if they are short, because there are plenty of viewers like me who care.

I decided to stick to one talking segment per video moving forward. So they're still there, just before the reaction! It will allow me to actually react to more shows overall, and seeing as I already record several episodes per show in bulk I often was repeating the same talking points in intro's and outro's so it was always pretty redundant. Hope that makes sense!
