basically roswaal said something like "the me who will survive is not me in this loop but me in next loop which is not me", he treats himself in every loop as individual and frustrate that subaru cannot do what he wants him to do, he is not gonna be like "oh yeah this loop is f*cked but since you can restart, I'm gonna be fine!".

This season confused the fuck out of me when it came out, especially with the lore Re:zero has that it's famous for. But they somehow managed to tie it back to something more coherent at the end.

It's very much a common occurrence, Re:zero expects you to remember many of the smaller details it shows you to get the full picture and I can understand why so many people can get confused with how much is always happening at once (especially season 2).
I mean, take the Meili reveal as an example: the show brought her back from a relatively minor arc from last season, and her appearance both answers some questions about past events and brings new ones to the table, such as who contracted her on the first season to attack the village since Roswaal didn't know who she was at that time, something that, once again, was only said in passage during a small scene at S1E11, if I'm not mistaken.
It took me a rewatch or two to fully understand the greater plot, but it's actually crazy to realize how good the writing is once you finally get it.

Re zero cut content : After Subaru and Beako escaped in this scene 9:41, Subaru saw Petra like this... Elsa fr done Petra dirty
-Petra was atop the dining table, set alongside the tableware.
The white tablecloth seeps with a red stain, the body of a collapsed Petra at its centre. Time has
already passed, with the shade of shed blood shifting soon to dark rust, the scene intensifying in its
morose air.
Subaru: “Peh, trra...”
Faltering, unsteady steps lead Subaru to the table.
Petra lies face-up in the middle. Frozen firm on her loveable face is an expression of agony, tears
and dread, her eyes wide open in despair of what she last saw. Blood leaks from the corners of her
open mouth, the lethal blow of course being the slash of the deep knife wound splitting her belly.
That maid outfit she had sweetly, fairylike with skirt billowing, shown to Subaru-from beneath its
breast to its gut there rips a straight slice, the spilled blood and guts further lightening the body of
the little girl.
