Finding leverless shortcuts is always a "OH MY GOD OF COURSE" moment. Like, we all understand SOCD to an extent but using that to our advantage and creating a shortcut is a talent few people have. It's always eye opening to see an input be simplified on leverless.
Yes! I saw brine say this on stream and I was like, yeah, another shortcut whatever. But Saturday I was messing around in training mode and tried this and holy shit, that's easy on the hand, so comfortable that it blew me away
Me with kbd in tekken 0.0
Fax, just holding the down button, and tapping forward twice will get you the DP motion
I still keep forgetting how comparatively small this channel is for the quality of content it puts out, even after watching for over a year.
6:35, everyone shares tendons between your middle, ring, and pinky fingers (especially the last two). I'm sure it varies somewhat, but in learning piano and percussion I've done a lot of work on finger independence, which is to say you can train this to improve it.
here's an exercise you'd do on the piano, but you can just tap a desk or something: tap all five fingers on the desk, then, holding your thumb down, tap the desk with your 4 other fingers. after that, tap with all your fingers but hold down your index finger this time. Cycle through all your fingers on each hand like this. It might help to do this on a leverless just for the feedback, but this is sorta the time proven practice.
footnote: My experience with this isn't really a good anecdote for it's effectiveness, since I also have spent my entire life playing music and effectively training this. You also need to be careful and pay attention to what you're feeling in your hand to make sure you aren't hurting anything.
Do you tap all the fingers at once, or cycling through? i.e. When you're holding down your pointer, do you tap the 4 other fingers at the same time, or do you tap them individually?
@@jasonpicard909 all 4 at once
I'm learning piano, teaching myself and taking it slow. This exercise will help me
@@bigdunks4eva if you'd like to know more, look up theodor leschetizky - the creator of that exercise
The fun part about the whole ring/middle tendon thing is figuring out that pressing is easier with right motions but "pulling off" is easier with left motions.
dude i learned that on stick lol, it was crazy i was getting cooked on tekken till some dude threw me start of match and put me P2 side
P2 side is like bizarro world lol
The socd jump DP input was pretty busted in SFV. I remember when the SF6 beta came out that Capcom removed it, which kinda made sense to me... then the CPT announcement literally undid the change they made to remove it, which brought it back. If you're not a charge player, the SOCD = neutral was a straight buff for leverless players. Down Down inputs are easier now as well.
I have the Razr Kitsune too and coming from a background of playing musical instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards), the convention of playing with the hitbox on the lap will DESTROY the wrists over time (esp the left wrist). For injury prevention it is best to place the hitbox on a desk like a keyboard, with a wrist rest. By elevating the palm of the wrist that tricky ring / middle finger DP is easier. This is how pianists optimize wrist angles for max finger dexterity. Hope this helps!

I’ve been playing on leverless for 2 years. It’s certainly a *huge* learning curve to switch from a controller layout to needing buttons for movement, but it is just as rewarding as it is difficult. Consistent 360s, instant dragon punch, blocking is as easy as the press of a button (fuck you mortal kombat), and in my opinion, the best thing about the leverless is the fact that you aren’t using a stick, which means that to go from left to right or up to down, you have to go through the neutral position on the joystick first. This is not the case for leverless, you can basically instantly go from opposite directions with ease. I never bothered to learn shortcuts, I just practiced the input countless times and got the timing down. Now I can throw out inputs so quickly that I don’t even need to go through any delay. It just comes out as fast as I press the button, which now feels pretty damn fast, definitely not anything I could do on a controller, at least not as easily. Without a doubt, leverless is easily, downright the most powerful, and in my case, satisfying controller to use in competitive play. If you’re willing to put in the month or two to learn this controller, it is worth your time.
this came at the perfect time, I was searching everywhere for some way to input a fast super on both sides and couldn't figure it out. I thought the same thing, that those ed combos were just not for me. Thank you so much
im a subscriber but i admittedly only clicked this video because of the shitpost-esque thumbnail lmao
im glad i watched though, ive been using leverless for a little under a year now but never bothered digging into SOCD shortcuts like these. very engaging and informative video brian, your excitement at learning (and teaching) new stuff is palpable and infectious
You're awesome. I was almost quitting learning Ed cause i was struggling with DP and super 2 combos.
So good to watch Brian play again! Keep playing Ed!
as a pc keyboard dude I love leverless its great
You're one of those freaks from the SF4 years moaning about keyboard issues I bet lol, always used to think what the hell, but obviously they were ahead of the game.
Yeah, keyboarders lets goo!! The only sad side is that they use freaking PS5 ok tournaments and idk how would the rules be applied to keyboard users, since keyboards have a ton of keys to check
@@jamesw5713depends on the person.
I had to use my 10+ years old keyboard because I could not afford a stick/pad/etc...
My friend used to be like "wow that's crazy!", he thinks it's a handicap device.
I was like "there's some pros and cons, I can't imagine playing on stick/pad after sticking with it for this long"
Then daigo started using hitbox, and the SAME EXACT FRIEND said "wow you using keyboard, it's cheap! That's why it got banned and daigo is using it!"
I'm like "bruh we had the same exact conversation a few months ago". And at that time, he thought it was garbage, now daigo uses it and it's god tier now?
you could just a converter (they're legal just sometimes problematic) or use a hitbox with keyboard buttons with an Ps5 compatible chip idk if its possible@@astjuly8239
@@astjuly8239it's actually really simple, because last time I checked regular USB keyboards straight up didn't work on PS4, doubt PS5 is any different.
Jesus, I had no idea there were such big shortcuts for supers. That DP tech is very good to know too.
The DP shortcut actually works in SFV too, as 639 works as a DP input in that game. I was using the shortcut in SFV, and then in SF6 they took 639 DP out of the game, then by changing the SOCD rules, basically put that shortcut back into the game.
As someone who is currently switching from playing with an xbox controller to using a leverless, I cannot thank you enough for these kinds of videos.
The SOCD discussion before SF6 was less theorycraft (only really about the game's input parser) and more memory. All of the shit you can do with down+up=neutral is why down+up=up was made the standard in the first place all those years ago. This tech isn't being discovered so much as remembered.
What's old is new again
I don't think that's correct. I'm pretty sure U+D=U was chosen specifically to cheat flash kick. Hit Box Arcade has never been in the business of self-nerfing.
hitbox was made for marvel 3 originally, I'm 90% sure that d + u = u was chosen because the sf6 way feels miserable for superjumps
Hey Brian, I’m at 6:09 on your video, and I’ve learned with my Kitsune, if you are crouched, just tap forward twice and then punch button while crouching to get easy DP from that position. You can be crouch blocking and easily go into DP with this.
This video came out right in time. I just started learning levels controller
@ 6:16 if i remember correctly, if you're crouching you can still do a 323 input and the game will still consider that good enough for a 623 input
Yep, I was doing this with Cammy this morning
The dp socd input was a thing in sfv it was gone for the start of sf6 but a hot fix brought it back and I’m glad it was brought back!
This is my first fighting game and I use leverless. I'm pretty bad at the game but already knew this stuff. I don't use my right hand for jump though but always knew it was an option. Probably having played passed games with different SOCD rules made this less intuitive for you.
Here's another trick:
The game priorities DP motions over quarter circles. Sometimes if you're walking forward then try to do a quarter circle you'll notice you get a DP, this can be annoying but you can use it to your advantage:
Cancelling a DP motion into a Super can be very hard, especially if you do it raw. Some optimal combos like Ryu require you to be able to do this. (Light shoryu into level 3, so DP then double quarter circle).
A trick is to walk forward then do a quarter circle then hit (gives you DP since you were walking forward) then do another quarter circle then hit (it still has the first quarter circle in your buffer). It makes stuff like this 100 times easier.
My leverless is arriving Saturday and I will be revisiting your Leverless videos! Is there any chance that they could he added to a Playlist for people looking to learn alongside?
Going to try and implement some of this… have my hitbox but been going back and forth between gamepad.
I was the same way when i got my Kitsune so i returned it. 😂
I got tired of learning how to do things i can already do on pad so i quit, i wish the Kitsune was available and i had the funds to purchase it when SF6 launched……oh well!
thanks! having trouble with AA DP and cancelling into qcb and qcf with the hitbox. needs a bit more time
As a pianist I love leverless controllers. I even will use a leverless to play music as a bard in FFXIV.
I’ve always held back and tapped down+ forward twice, but this seems pretty wicked
I think my favorite technique is the slide 360 on leverless. It may not work with all button types, but I have a DIY leverless with Seimitsu buttons and it's satisfying to get consistent quick 360s.
Ty I needed this.
I have been using this on the Kitsune for a while and it has changed by Street Fighter playing. I am a NRS/Tekken/ArcSys guy that didn't touch SFV (but watched a lot of it). When SF6 came out I was using a fight commander and did alright, but when I got this and learned about this input and the crosscut input it was wraps.
I've actually had a great deal of elbow pain when switching to leverless. That tendon that you can feel moving when you move your middle/ring finger got super inflamed. I cant do leverless for more than about an hour at a time
You can try using the pinky instead of the ring finger. A bit awkward at first, but there should be less strain.
This is my subscription video…thank you carry on
I play on hit box too, when I watched a video on how to do an EWGF on tekken i realized the shortcut input is just a SF DP and it instantly started working lol
I remember when I first learned this shortcut it felt really awkward. But years later, it feels so quick and intuitive that I wonder why everyone doesn't use it.
it’s just like chess, if you attack one position on the board it usually means leaving something open that was covered before. Always gotta consider all possibilities.
Every time I see a video like this I think "hitstick/crossup wins again, the simplicity and intuitive nature of a lever and the precision and socd shortcuts of a leverless"
This short cut just changed my life. I will no longer be gate kept from master cuz I drop my super!
Thank you!
The next logicial thing is for Capcom to implement first input priority. Completely gets rid of SOCD shortcuts.
SOCD is hardware level, it happens before the signal has even left the controller.
@@dingusdangus9299 It can be hardware level, but it's not exclusively hardware level. That's why if you use a stock PlayStation controller and press the d-pad one way and the analog stick the opposite direction depending on the game the software can interpret the result differently.
This is like modern control reactions with classic damage & access to your full moveslist.
I'm starting SF6 with a sky2040. I'm picking it up and its fast and fun as hell. If you can learn both shortcuts and normal, it helps a lot for different button melodies.
This is the reason why the default socd layout before sf6 was up+ down = up. People complained about this ruling by capcom
6:25 My wife and I are opposites in this way and we figured out a very simple test to show it. If you roll your fingers (like you're bored/impatiently waiting) on a table, the finger you start with represents the strength of your tendons. I always start with my pinky then roll inwards towards my pointer finger. She always starts with her pointer finger then rolls out towards her pinky. To get better at hitbox I've been training myself to roll her fingers like she does and it helps. My forearm hurts after a few minutes because i'm using muscles I wouldn't normally.
Man, everytime i watch a brian-f video im reminded of how amazing the perzona 5 soundtrack is
Feels like the primary advantage of leverless will always be exploiting SOCD cleaning, which seems like an artificial advantage that's always going to be subject to the whims of the devs, game-by-game. I think "last input override" (Gafrobox style) eliminates nearly all of the cleaning exploits I'm familiar with (as most take advantage of forced neutral), but ultimately it will come down to how each game's devs implement input detection. The "639" SOCD DP shouldn't even work - the input interpreter sees 636 which "shouldn't" be a valid DP input, as you never hit 2 - but Capcom's decision to accept 636 as a valid DP input makes it work.
The reality is : 99% of players will never play in a tournament, it's all online. Also, anyone can put out a new hardware. So getting an "even" playing space without SOCD cleaning will always be impossible.
@@johndellany6255 Yeah, but the context here is specifically tournament play, and the rules for such.
639 is also a valid DP input for sf5 and sf6. The SOCD rule change didn't change anything about the way this shortcut is input
@@trevorbiggin1771 True SF5-style 639 isn't a valid DP input for SF6, which you can see if you use a hitbox with the old d+u=u SOCD cleaning. However, due to the CPT required changes to SOCD cleaning, the SF5 "639 DP" input - hold f, hold f+d, hold f+d+u+P - is now interpreted as 636, which does work in SF6. So ironically, the SOCD rule change *preserved* the functionality of this input shortcut.
@@shatteredteethofgod I think without the forced neutral SOCD "exploits," leverless is mostly just different, not necessarily better. I wouldn't really describe rolling motions on a leverless controller as "more precise" than on a stick.
A trick for that combo without being on hitbox:
After the ex snatcher buffer a down input -> back + jab -> qcb punch.
Finger independence can be trained, there is a drill guitar players do to train their fretting hand. I tried it for a while and it works like charm but consistency is key.
The good ol fighting game arms race, gotta love it :D
Matrix brino with the SOCD tech very nice. Woo
The part about your tendons between your middle and ring finger causing some issues happens to me definitely. I could not for the life of me execute guilty gear supers from the left side because pianoing 63214 was so hard, my middle finger made my ring finger get stuck on holding 1 and not let go of down
Not sure if Brian or javits mentioned this; but if you do standing super from a button you can hold down then roll between socd up to the button first, then input super.
Cammy st hp into super 2 is so freaking easy now on hitbox!! 🤩
I like the neutral SOCD DP shortcut of [6], [6]+4, [6]+2 but for personal reasons I play Last Wins SOCD, where this input gives a half circle. Useful playing Potemkin on keyboard, where halfcircles are common and the keyboard key travel is a bit too deep for my liking so I use Last Wins to deal with it. I lose out on easy DPs though.
I love SOCD, we should be allowed to set it to our preference hardware side. Shortcuts are inevitable, might as well pick the shortcuts you want.
You could use the pinky instead of the ring finger to avoid the tendon stuff. But then again, would be more stuff to get used to, might be worth tho.
My god. I've been having the same DP input with ed on keyboard, that input's so simple but so damn good. Might be in the same camp with the tendon too lol.
A easier way to dp with hitbox is D (Hold/Tap) > F > F > PUNCH
And it works every time
As a Marisa main, I struggle to do her DP on leverless, I'll have to learn that!
for some reason double HQCs are hard for my hands specially on the P2 side, so what I do for supers is I hold DOWN and press at the same time direction (left or right) + UP twice and then the button (punch or kick), at least on SF6 it works really well and it's a faster way to trigger supers
@Brian_F maybe this can remove the whiff part of your combo
Brilliant method just got it five times in a row without buffering jab doing this
@@wawaw1845 hahahah glad you liked!
There is only QC(quarter circle) or HC(half circle). Pressing Forward+Up at the same time will skip the diagonal, so this doesn't work for triggering the super in SF6. You have to roll the forward and up buttons one after another.
@@NoNsEnSe321 In theory yes I agree that it shouldn't work, but that's what I do and I get the supers 100% the time xD
Just got a hitbox & i got the same problem with my right hand, you saved me 😂
Its wild that jump button can go to neutral so damn quickly, i HATE having to wait for a stick to return to neutral
I usually just do down (hold) + foward foward for a dp
This is faster. Especially the P2 side version compared to the tap-tap method. Give it some practice! I used your method, too, but this was an instant conversion after 5 min labbing.
I laughed out loud at "no feet for free"
I grew up playing fighting games on my dad's pc and doing quarter circles is the simplest thing I can do, I struggle with charge characters though
Seeing Brian and other people look for shortcuts, which in my opinion are harder to remember when they can just be doing the double qc, is insane to me but I understand I'm not the majority
Have you listened to dancing in the moonlight? I LOVE THAT SONG
I respect this kind of grind I wonder if this works on tekken aswell hmmmm LAB TIME!!!!
I love this geeky nerdy shit. Keep it up BRINE!
Stuff like this is whats making me switch to keyboard. Dont got the money for leverless but with some practice its def comparable. Def enjoying the accuracy of inputs(albeit i suck at player 2 side now)
Godlike video. I got a box a few months ago and I was trying to figure out better inputs for reaction DP and supers. Big thanks for making this.
socd neutral was good. thanks.
Have you tried to tilt the hitbox around 15-20 degrees from your flat surface to have your wrists stay more comfortable? I believe this could help with the middle and ring finger problem
Dang. Thanks!
even while being left handed and very dexterous with my left hand overall, I have an insane difficulty with the middle finger and ring finger movements, with DP and the worst one is the guilty gear 632146 input
I find it so interesting when someone uses their right thumb to press the up button on leverless. That would require a lot of rewiring for me, as it seems more intuitive to do all the movement related stuff with my left hand, so jumping with the left thumb as well - probably coming from years playing FPS games and jumping by pressing space bar on the keyboard.
If you’re coming from FPS games you would love the ODIN V2. It replaces your lever with arrow keys similar to WASD. Not nearly as taxing on the wrists either.
I was in the same camp until I learned charge characters on a hitbox, so I had to press jump and an attack button at the same time. For me, it made more sense to hit them both with the same hand, and now I naturally jump with my right thumb.
HOLY. SH*T!! This is insane. Also... do most players utilize their right thumb for the jump button rather than their left thumb?
The only reason I haven't switched to leverless is because I'm really put off by the Arx Fatalis magic spell incantations required to do basic stuff. The intuitive nature of stick just feels better in my brain and I guess I'm just willing to be nonoptimal in my fighting game journey as a result.
as a M&K user throughout my whole life, when i decided to use a Leverless, i just did inputs without any SOCD tricks or anything like that, its useful but you can learn it without those just fine. You wouldnt have any advantages over stick other than having instant direction changes that buttons offer
You can learn leverless without the shortcuts. Shortcuts can male certain things easier but given people still play stick, there's no reason to stay away from leverless specifically because shortcuts exist.
If you are considering leverless for ergonomic reasons for instance, you really should just switch.
@@TenjinZekken I found the socd stuff cheap but im new to fighting games so i just did them cus i suck, but i realised its just a crutch as soon as you go onto other games that dont allow these weird sloppy inputs. Now i just play normally so in the future i can swap to any fighting game.
@@user-ze2pm3pe2e Yea. I have the same mindset. For example, I use motion inputs in GBFVR for everything, even though you lose no damage doing simple inputs in combos. It's just so I can keep building muscle memory that is more universal.
from crouching. you can also just double tap forwrd. also become dp
absolutely loving my snackbox micro
Dragon punch is towards [any], down [any] towards [any]. This is how you dragon punch and it has been this way since Street Fighter 4. This means that if...
=You do towards, down + towards, then add up to get Up + towards, and you will get...
-towards, down + towards, towards if your Hitbox does SOCD Neutral for up + down.
-towards, down + towards, up + towards if it's SOCD UD = U. In either case, the dragon punch comes out.
guitar experience paying dividends again for fg ergonomics! glad you figured this out, tbh I don't really like watching you play when SF6 came out due to no oro, so welcome the change this seems to have made with your character choices!
I know it has probably already been said but the thumbnail to this Brian one is such fucking gold, lmfao.
Feels like Brian just had Pandora’s box open for him lol good shit
ya know I was doubtful that I'd learn something new about SOCD but I'm glad I stuck around. I recently went back to up+down=up because I'm using a flash kick character, but this super input makes me want to switch back
I cannot wait to get a leverless!
i cant wait to see you brian discover the instant 360 or the 720 shortcuts for gief 😁
hahah i jus got to the part of gief in the video 🤣🤣
Modern guile can go from crounch to flash quick in one button 😂
I have the shared tendons thing between ring finger and pinkie. I'm a metalhead that can't do the horns gesture properly because I can't curl my ring finger and have my pinkie stretched out at the same time.
😂
this is such a good video title
I definitely have a use case with Ryu to use to drill this. Woo.
Still saying, Down + Tap Forward twice should also work for a good dp.
having a hard time landing DP into lvl 3 super, particularly on P2 side. Hoping this helps.
I got a Razer Kitsune at a Microcenter a little over 2 weeks ago and i refunded it recently, its a good option to try it out if you’re not sure about it. They sell a few sticks but the best one is that horrid Mad Catz made in Japan. I’ll just play on pad until i can buy a stick that isn’t 300+ and has a way of accessing the cable without unscrewing or opening it.
I haven’t played stick since SFIV (pretty much skipped V) so i’m in no rush.
As someone that uses WASD I get excited when I see leverless tech but then my brain hurts trying to convert the up and down
If you're not using your thumb for up you're going to have a hard time, from an ergonomic standpoint.
The "finger not moving" thing is a little bit more complex
1- The middle finger and ring finger DO share something, so if you move one it will move the other;
However
2- If you are a musician or trained any instrument for a time, You get rid of it. You can train the autonomy of each finger.
What's the complexity in this? This is a muscle and nervous adaptation; It will take as long as it needs to in order you to be able to control each finger with finger control exercices of any instrument. Maybe 1 to 1/5 Years for it do develop
I've played guitar since I was 10, I don't think just playing any instrument solves this.
@@Brian_F it should actually. O.o
Wtf is wrong with you?
You do not do the same motions on leverless as you do on guitar, it's completely different. Your wrists are in entirely different positions as well
Sick Persona music
Oh... I can react to jumps while walking backwards now. Holy shit.
How?
How?
My Leverless Gief is beginning to believe
any socd tricks for half circles? i always stayed away from gold lewis in strive cause he is just all half circle inputs
Brian I have the same problem with my left hand. I feel like I need to switch my hitbox primary to right hand from directional movement
The other reason that the middle and ring can be hard to control, your index and thumb have their own dedicated neural pathway. Your middle, ring, and pinky finger all share a single pathway, making those three fingers hard to control independently.
I recommend practicing more guitar Brian. It really helps making the left hand middle and ring fingers move more independently.
I played guitar for 10 years. It doesn't correlate to hitbox imo, the entire posture and positioning is entirely different
w thumbnail as always mr f
Still here, I’m waiting for the how to get out of blue ranks 👀 my defense is what I lack the most in but I have been able to implement the parry a bit more
