Me: I want a horror movie where the main character is actually smart
Director: Granted, but the killer is smart too
This is what I love about all of Flanagan’s movies; his protagonists (and even most supporting characters) are always good, reasonable, competent characters. It’s kind of odd how uncommon that is in the genre... (note: I have not yet seen Doctor Sleep or Before I Wake, so I don’t know if they are different)
That’s the perfect horror movie for me. Smart protagonist and antagonist makes a good horror movie for me.
Watch the thing 1982 or 81 but its good
Check out You're Next too, it's even better than this imo
Yooo Erin badass am i rite
I like how maddie isnt crazy smart, like makes all the right moves like the girl in you're next, but is still smart and badass.
lily the girl from you’re next was a different kind of smart lol
badass as in shaking in fear while the killer is immobilized by sarah's bf
or getting a long range crossbow out of the house and attempting to reload which she has previously failed miserably?
please tell me.
@@kaidestinyz here comes mr. "i would've taken him out in one shot if that were me"
@@idunno3370 What an awesome reply. I like it
@@kaidestinyz not a comeback. Also she's badass in the way that she keeps on fighting and even taunts the killer using her own blood. That knife stab, corkscrew stab and wasp spray were really badass too so as far as I'm concerned she is a badass
The entire concept of this freaks me out so much. Not only because she can't hear the killer approaching or where he could be entering but also because she can't know how quiet or loud she's being when trying to escape or hide. The anxiety level in this movie was through the roof.
literally!! i was so anxious the whole time
Sure is nice to own a gun.
On god
If you liked this, you'll love Wait Until Dark
@@mattb6646dude shut up that’s not even what this comment is about
I love how she prepares, even writing a description of the killer for just in case she dies.
Finally a smart horror movie protagonist I’ve never seen anyone do that in a horror movie before smart
It’s very clever, but I think she really should focus on getting out alive and winning the fight. I guess she might think that if she dies she wants him to get caught so he can’t continue killing.
@@dzumai It's better than nothing as someone could recognize his face and start putting clues together.
I thought I was still watching the final destiny 2 kill count and was like “what?”
literally one of if not the smartest protagonists of all time
I loved when the killer took off his mask during the first half of the film. It was a small psychological twist that we never see in horror movies. The killer wanted her to see who he was so he could have an excuse to kill her. He didn't care if she saw his face because he planned to kill her regardless.
I think you misinterpreted it. He didn't need a reason to kill her and taking off the mask was a way to tell her that he intends to kill her regardless of reason. It was one of many times he mocks her.
@@ascend3622 for me I like to think he did it was him saying it doesn't matter if she knows who he is since he intends to kill her anyway
What do you mean what about saw 1. 2. 3. And Jigsaw and what about the purge all the purge moovies had that in it
The killer is probably my favorite, because he was in control the entire time. He is also the scariest, because of how possible it is. I actually wanted the killer to win.
he was actually showing her that hes going to kill her no matter what so it doesnt matter if you see his face or not
I really admire how they integrated her disability. She was able to compensate and even turn it into a strength without it becoming a cartoonish superpower.
*cough* predator *cough*
Yes! I love the way she used her ear-shattering fire alarm to nearly incapacitate the guy! Add in the wasp-killer to the eyes and *that shit fucking hurts.*

John kinda was one of the extremely rare victims that wasnt accepting their death without a fight
Live for nothing, die for something
This is how most people go out when they are murdered. Adrenaline makes the human body EXTREMELY resilient for at most a minute. This is why Johns death was so concerning to me, because that is one of the most realistic deaths i have ever seen in a movie.
It isnt rare happens i allmost every kill count

Maddie using her blood to write "coward" on the window was badass and my favorite scene
Hush isn't my favorite thriller, though it is actually pretty high on my list, but I think the moment that got the strongest emotional reaction from me out of any thriller movie I've ever seen was John already being set up to take out the bad guy but getting killed because Maddie unwittingly distracted him. That just tore me up inside, I felt *awful*.
And then STILL almost bodies him, that guy reacted how I hope I would in that situation, if you're already dead may as well atleast try and save someone else
I felt so bad for John, he just wanted to protect his girlfriend and put up a fight that almost kill the man
Yeah
Its a typical horror movie in the sense the women basically caused his death inadvertently
@Paola Ramirez well first off it's just a movie and secondly you must not watch many horror movies if you think it's not the case...

A lot of killers in horror movies tend to have way more power than regular humans (for some reason?), this guy may have been insane but he was still a regular Joe in terms of how much human strength he had.
even a child is better than most
Still can't believe Flannigan had Midnight Mass planned even all the way back in this movie.

The scene where the man walks into the house and texts Maddie pictures of herself letting her know he was there reminded me of a crime by Richard Ramirez. He was out side with a victim and she just got out of her car when she felt uneasy she started looking around but saw nothing until she heard a hand tap on the car from behind her. Those types of serial killers are called hedonistic serial killers and they like toying with their victims. Those are the type you usually see in slasher films. Like Freddy Krueger or Ghostface (pretty much all of them are hedonistic). While killers like Jason Voorhees are visionary, being told to kill by a voice in their head.

Title of the video: Hush (2017) KILL COUNT
i can't tell if this comment was right and James edited the title or you read it wrong
The year on the title actually said 2017 before he changed it to the right year. I'm not lying to you.
Yea it was 2017
@Face with the mortal Gray James edited the title to 2016 because he realized that he wrote 2017
Dude it’s 2016
I needed to rewatch this because Dylan watched the movie and he was just bagging on it since he did not understand the point of the movie.
One of the reasons I love this movie is how frustrating it is to watch everyone die and the main character cant do anything
James: Let's get to the kills
Also James: *Hermit crabs away*
This movie is such a gem, the suspense was amazing and it made me honestly tense af.
Yeah, but the dumbness of the mc made me tear my sofa apart, Holy shit.
@2:31 wow, Mike Flanagan planned ahead and left an easter egg for Midnight Mass!
Exactly. I watched hush back in 2018 and just about 3 days ago I watched midnight mass
Great detail
I like how this channel allows me to watch movies I couldn’t watch before. Thanks James

The fully silent scenes in the quiet place films are my favorite part, and I fully understand the bizarre writing process used by both the character and the filmmakers here, so I definitely need to check this out. Thanks James!
