Rapunzel thought that the Mother was talking about her but infact she was talking about herself and then make Rapunzel the butt of the joke.
Praising someone up to lower their guard and immediately snatch it away and break them down is a standard manipulation tactics that gaslighters do.
Tangled should've been the movie that got so popular instead of Frozen

@@murilopereira7186 let it go is between ok and good but itâs so overrated. 4 to like 9 sing it a lot and it just gets me crazy. I would say one of the best songs in Frozen are Frozen Heart, do you want to build a snowman, and summer.
I agree that Tangled is superior but if it got Frozenâs popularity then everyone would call THIS movie overrated instead

As much as I like Frollo I think the relationship between Rapunzel and Gothel felt more realistic, since I think it reflects real parents who shelter and exploit their kids for their talents. On the other hand, it could just be my own personal experiences, a parent mistreating their child for their deformities, like Frollo does, is a realistic scenario to.

@@pablomendoza2543 I wouldn't call it "more realistic". I'd call it more commonplace, sadly, and as more people relate to it on a personal level.
Both are two different types of abuse
When people imagine "abusive parent" Frollo probably fits the same mold, while Gothel is more manipulative and exploitative.
@@aetheriansunrise5433 If it's more common, then it's more realistic for it to happen. Correcting someone like that only to say the exact same thing with different words is incredibly annoying.
I recognized the gaslighting the first time I saw Tangled when it first came out, even though I didn't know what it was. It really gets under my skin when people say Gothel loves Rapunzel, because I really don't see it. I only see a woman interested in what she can gain from Rapunzel, and ends up giving her Stockholm syndrome.

@@WickedBinge Indeed. It wasn't until a few years after seeing the movie that I recognized the emotional abuse in my own life, and it's only a year or so ago that I learned the term "Gaslighting." Now I can see why I picked up on Gothel's actions in the movie. But like Rapunzel did, I found my voice.
@@corinna007 No wonder Tangled the film resonated with me as a person too, and basically (almost subconsciously) related to Rapunzel's character a lot since seeing the movie. Tangled is like a woke film to me.

I could actually tell immediately that Gothel didn't care about Rapunzel. I remember having thoughts during the movie like "Mother doesn't always know best. People don't see what actually happens." I knew I was being mistreated, but I didn't know the term, or see how deep it went. Honestly, part of my mind is still trapped in my old tower.
Letâs also look at how Eugene brushes Rapunzel hair aside whenever heâs showing affection and also sacrificed his health for her freedom.
Another cool thing about this movie is the way Tangled presented Flynn/Eugene. He's shown as a selfish, self-serving and vain person at first, which makes his sacrifice at the end only more beautiful. He was everything Gothel warned Rapunzel about the world and yet in the end, out of love he choses to sacrifice his life to ensure Rapunzel's freedom. I once read in a french book something I'll translate to share here "What you hoard is lost, what you give is yours forever." Tangled illustrate the nature of true love, no matter if it is a romantic, filial or friendship type.

Same. It's only after I moved out that I started to realize what my mother did. And she doesn't see it at all. She has her own issues that keep her from doing so. But that doesn't mean it hurts any less.

I used the intro song from this movie, When Will my Life Begin, as my graduation song. I didnât know it at the time, but there was a reason for thatâŠ
Looking back now that Iâm living on my own, and reflecting on all the mental problems I have and why I have them, I can see very strong parallels between my and my sisterâs childhoods and this movie. The ironic thing is, our mother looks almost identical to Mother Gothel, even having a subconscious obsession with looking young and beautiful forever, which makes it even more uncanny.
When this movie first came out, I remember my mom expressly stating how much she hated Mother Gothel, and how it made her feel so uncomfortable that she looked so much like her. She said it upset her to be viewed as a villain. I want to believe that in the back of her mind she recognized herself in Mother Gothelâs behavior, but just didnât like being called out on her Bull Shit.

Iâd argue that a âkidâs movieâ is a good place to introduce the subject as it familiarizes children with the idea that not everyone is honest and cares about us

This movie has the same basic plot. A guardian lies to a child he or she raises into adulthood about the world being cruel, never letting him or her experience the outside world and has evil plans for said child. This leads to the villainâs death in the climax. Oh, and the young adultâs only friends arenât human. And the main character eventually gets a love interest.

This is not how a family should look like. I'm feeling like the true meaning of family is that families are for parents and children to help each other. A parent's job is to help their child to grow up, to develop skills, to be trained for life, even to help them mature properly. Once some of a parent's task is successful, the child is more likely to help their parents more efficiently, getting the child to be part of their legacy.
In the present, I feel like there's no such thing as legacy raised children anymore as it's a thing in the past. What a sad world we live in.
Ever since I was gifted Video games at my early age, I had a feeling that I'm on my own sometimes since, because my parents don't interact with me a lot because they have work to do. I always remember that I had too little affection because I'm "autistic" even though that should not matter. Autistic people needs their parents's affections, otherwise they're feeling more alone.
