Disney's TANGLED is one of my favorite modern Disney Classics, but the movie begs answers to Several questions about Rapunzel's luscious locks. Have you ever wondered if hair is actually strong enough to carry the weight of a grown man? Or if Rapunzel could manage the weight of so much hair in the first place? Well after getting tangled up in some research, Loyal Theorists, I have found the answers!

  • @RainyMagma
    @RainyMagma Před rokem +92

One wrong thing I could think of. Since the body could get used to the stress after the build-up of her 18 years worth of hair. Would that not mean her body would be very powerful after dragging that hair around for so long. Since humans have adapted to almost everything that has been thrown at us that means we can overcome anything with time. 18 years of 4 inches of hair growth per month with the weight of her hair increasing at a constant rate would mean her body would naturally adapt to the stress on it.

5:15 Her neck is fine regardless of the weight since she’s pulling the hair with her hands not her head, which means most, if not all, of that weight is being transferred to her arms. So the only way her neck would be in danger is if she let go. So as long as she’s able to pull the weight, she’s fine.

I was looking through the comments just to find someone saying this! As someone who grew up with very long and easily tangled hair, pulling on hair becomes a lot less painful when you hold the base of your hair with your hands. The force that would usually be put on your head is transferred to your hands and arms instead, leading to a much less painful experience.

3:39 most hair would actually stop growing at a certain length. That length is different for most people. Well, it wouldn’t stop growing, but it has a point where it wouldn’t get longer. Because you’re hair stands (each strand) goes through different phases, where it grows, doesn’t grow, and fall out. All your hair will not grow at the same time either. So because of those phases your hair will hit a growth “plateau” where it doesn’t really get longer. (Hair stylist, and learned about the science behind hair at school, not cosmetology school, I took hairdressing at high school/university or whatever it would be in the American equivalent)

However, hair only grows for about 3-7 years so from what I've seen in this video (which is admittedly very limited) it is entirely possible that she had never cut her hair and it would only be that length.

Alright, but she sings her healing song on a regular basis, so while the magic goes through her hair to wherever someone is touching it, couldn't her hair also be repairingitself, since the healing magic has to go through there each and every time? Maybe that's also the reason why her hair looks and smells good, because the magic is getting rid of all of the dirt and repairs any damaged hairs?

    • @maxdebeau8132

You know, the hair falling out thing may affect us, but Rapunzel has healing hair. It would automatically heal her scalp. But the cleaning thing you really can't argue with.
Edit- I know that matpat said he would be looking at this without the healing aspect, but in the end, he was talking as if that line (about not acknowledging the healing aspect) at the beginning didn't matter.
Edit 2- someone mentioned that in the song that she sings, it says that the hair doesn't heal, but it turns back time, so the hair would be self cleaning. So my comment is useless.

You should do a video about how her powers work As well. I find it interesting, that her first brown lock didn't grow since it was cut off. Or thinkig about how she heals others. Like, if you think about it, She was able to heal with her hair, and with tears too (I could imagine that the grease on her hair may transport those magical powers)That would mean She is able to heal with her sweat, or with her spit?

11:32 okay, so I have actually gone to a space museum and they had these weighted vests that corresponded to a different planet. basically, you put the vest on and that is how you would feel if you walked on planet A. so I tried one on that was 50 pounds and it was pretty heavy but not too bad for my body to hold. as I was taking it off, the velcro on the vest got caught on my hair and I dropped to the ground face first. my family just walked away and as I called to my mom for help, she just stood there and laughed. thankfully a nice lady came to my rescue and got my hair out of the velcro.
TL:DR I have actually had 50 pounds of weight attached to my hair and I was stuck face down on the ground

@taysflower power You mean the lock of hair Gothel cut at the beginning? Why would it affect that one?, the hair is short and close to her scalp so it doesn't drag or pull on anything.

On traction alopecia: Except for the fact that Rapunzel heals her hair probably several times a week thanks to healing mother Gothal. I mean honestly anytime she sings her hair heels whatever it’s touching which includes her scalp.

Which would also likely mend any breakage and splits if she has any. Honestly I don’t see why cutting it would have caused it to lose its magic at all. That’s the part that made me mad.

facts and sience put aside and adding a bit of disney magic, Rapunzel does have healing hair so it's probably healing her scalp and maybe even the hair self. So she probably wouldn't go bald. Also, I'm really glad that someone pointed out the fact that she's literally brushing dust INTO her hair like wtf?!

She grips her hair so that nothing is pulling directly on her scalp. If you look, the hair around her head is still loose, while the hair on the other side of her grip is taught. That's also why she uses the hook, because it helps release some of that tension. *Maybe* in the scene at the end where Eugene climbs up without the hook wouyhe be pulling directly on her scalp because she was tied up. But in every other scene she's grabbing her hair to prevent it from pulling on her scalp.

Did you ever think that the since her hair is magic, that when she sings the hair heals itself? I mean its glowing healing hair! Maybe when she sings, the hair glows and heals itself. It starts killing itself, but then when she sings it heals itself. That's my theory based on his theory.
