Have A Great Shave, Have A Great Day!
Geo. - Jak na to + styl
Hadn't used my Futur in maybe 6 years. I'd forgotten how good it is despite much more competition these days. It's reclaimed no 1 spot with me so thanks, again, Geo.
That might be the first razor I might actually buy to replace my Merkur. I like the satin finish the most so it glides smooth over skin.
Thanks for the updated video. I am thinking about this one or the Parker Variant.
Im also an electrician and have those same linesman’s. Glad I found your channel and glad I’m a customer even more now. Happy to support a fellow electrician brother.
Thanks for educating me about these shavers. All the best from the UK!
Thanks, Geo, for a very informative and enjoyable review. Always worthwhile viewing, and often humorous, too.
Thanks Martin! Nice to hear from you as always. Just keepin' it real!
Thanks geofatboy, you made shaving fun for me. I got this razor recently and had my best shave every with it yesterday.
Thanks Dennis! I'm glad you are happy to Get Your Shave On!
Hi Geo- Great shave; thank you! Nice lather on the TOBS soap. For me, even the lowest settings on the Futur had too much blade exposure; it is definitely a challenging razor for me to shave with. Have a great week ahead and best regards, Geo!
Thanks Mike, take care.
Hi Geo,
I watched and left a comment for this the other day. You answered, too. Thanks.
I've wondered about this for a while and, even though in this video you didn't shave with the shaving cream you generally say is your favorite, TOBS Sandalwood, I shaved tonight with a different brand of Sandalwood Shaving Cream, The Art of Shaving, and it bought this question up in my mind and encouraged me to ask you about it.
I started wet-shaving around 4 to 5 years ago, buying an introductory beginner's package from The Art of Shaving store that used to be at a very big indoor shopping mall in San Jose, CA. After smelling the different scents of the beginner's packages, I chose the Sandalwood. I love the scent of The Art of Shaving's version of Sandalwood. I've smelled others since buying and using The Art of Shaving's Sandalwood. Others smell very, very true to the scent of Sandalwood as I got to know it when burning Sandalwood incense sticks (from India). That variety of scent is on the "perfumy" or "flowery" side, where The Art of Shaving's variety is, it seems to me, of a more woodsy nature. (I had bought a TOBS puck of Sandalwood Shaving Soap. It, too, is very faithful to the incense stick experience of Sandalwood.)
I'm really not sure at all about which of the two varieties might be considered a more representative scent of Sandalwood itself. The Art of Shaving's variety is my pick, but that might be because of its having started me off on this very enjoyable and interesting hobby. Do you know other varieties of Sandalwood, besides the one you often mention as your favorite, the TOBS? I had bought a sample of the TOBS Sandalwood Shaving Cream, before buying the puck of their Sandalwood Shaving soap. Both brands of shaving cream (i.e., TOBS and AoS, by the way, work very well, leaving nothing to be desired. Do you know The Art of Shaving's Sandalwood Shaving Cream? If so, what are your thoughts on the two brands' varieties of it, please?
Thank you, Geo. No rush for an answer from you, but I am very interested to hear your "read" on this subject.
Take care, guy. "Talk" with you again, sooner or later. Ciao, dude.
Hello GeoFatBoy, I just ordered the Merkur Futur razor, it sure seems to do a great job on your face. I am amazed you were taking it up to level 6 on the WTG passes! I also loved that story you told about your pliers. You know I love your stories! 😃
Thanks so much Stellar-Greatly appreciated.
Well done Geo! I’ve enjoyed my Futur, it was my first DE razor years ago. You can go wrong with TOBS creams. All the best. Thanks, Zac.
Thanks Zac!
"The beard has disappeared, I don't know how to say disappeared in german but that's what happened".
I seriously had a a good laugh out of that sentence.
For future reference (pun intended), in german, "The beard has disappeared" would be "Der Bart ist verschwunden"
I just ordered one of these can’t wait for it to arrive sadly I couldn’t order from shave nation as I live in New Zealand and it would take too long, but I’m glad you gave this a second review, I needed an adjustable because I shave the sides and back of my head every few weeks, lockdowns made me appreciate being my own barber, great videos geo
We ship to NZ and NSW all the time! Enjoy!
I have the Futur Satin. I've had it for about 3 years now. And it still works like new.
Wise acquisition!
Super smooth is how the Futur works for me too. I use it on the low settings & it’s great. On #2 it plowed through 7 days growth like nothing! Best gift I’ve gotten in ages was the satin Futur.
Thanks for sharing. Another reason why safety razors make great gifts!
best video on this razor. You certainly know your business sir. Thanks for doing that one!
I appreciate that!
Excellent video Geo, always enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them. I love my Mercur Futur and I never go beyond the 2 setting. You went from 6 (most aggressive ) down to 1 ( least aggressive). Is that a preference, or is it a better technique? I was advised in the past to start with the lowest setting for the first pass, and then increase with additional passes. What's your take?
The only issue I have with the Futur, and this may seem kind of nitpicky, but I find the numbers for the settings hard to read. If they had some color that might help.
Have the futur satin, my first de razor.l, also have Rockwell 6s, I prefer the Futur.
I would say not for the beginner, lots of knicks early on. But when you find your blade, cream and settings combo it truly is an amazing razor, 2 years on its still like new and gives a great shave. I would never dare go past setting 3, too aggressive for my skin. Paired with Astra Superior Plat and Cella cream it's excellent.
Thanks Thomas-Sounds like you have discovered the winning formula! Enjoy.
Thanks for the great video Geo 👍
I've been looking through some reviews recently on the Merkur Futur and today decided to order one.. Especially after hearing of its good build quality, adjustability & performance. I have previously had a cheapo butterfly razor but went back to a Gillette Fusion 5 for a while as someone got me it as a gift. Anyway now that I've used all 4 of it's spare blades and seen the price of replacements I'm giving up on that rip-off idea & going back to the safety razor. However this time I've decided to invest in arguably the best one available. So now I'm just looking forward to its arrival & to enjoy using it 🙂
Cheers buddy
John
I'll have to try the Royal forest cream and aftershave next time, love TOBS
Good stuff!
...great geo...great man...loved the pliers story 👍👍👍
Thanks Cas! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
That speed loader brush is awesome 👍
Had one of these for years a really good long lasting razor. Great video as well.
Thanks Maurice-Do you still own it?
@@geofatboy Still own it and use it, not daily, but when I want that 'close as it gets with a safety razor' shave. I usually start on 5 and finish off on 3. Always use a Feather Blade with it.
That razor was one of my best buys in life, no kidding.
I couldn't agree more it is a fantastic razor I have the polished chrome and it never slips with dry hands and a rub with the old alum block.
Thanks Cantos... You know, there are only a few things in life you can say that about.
Thank you for sharing. 🇨🇦😎
Thanks Paul!
The Futur is the best and most versatile razor out there. Period. It's more efficient than the R41 and works with any blade. It's ideal for beginners. You start at 1 and work yourself up to 3 which is enough for a bbs shave. Just for fun, try it at 6 with a Feather. You're not gonna bleed to death.
Ha Ha! Thanks for that. I probably will give that a try. I'm a big fan of the feather blades.
I use that for shaving head, and bigger areas of my face, then I finish with Boker straight razor for hard lines of my facial hair and tough spot under the nose. Both are top notch products.
God system and process. Thanks for sharing
Must get my Futur out again mate as I haven't used it for some time now and also might try the TOBS Royal Forest too and I do like the way you explain the steps not too much mucking around with silly chatter like some shaving CZcams shave sites are like:-D
Thanks John! I greatly appreciate that. I think it's worth revisiting the Futur-I'm happy I did.
At 6 larger gap ! Wow. The brush looks cool
Thanks great clip. Started using DE razors again 5 yrs ago. Previously used cartridge blades. What a waste of money. DE is the way to go. Especially the FUTUR razor. It's great and worth the price. Have had success with Aftra blades. Suggest clear finger nail polish on the torsion bars on the interior top of the razor to keep the bars (they keep the blade exposure) in place. Let razor dry well before polish application. My take a few applications.
I'm a fan of Merkur razors, but not a fan of their blades. YMMV
TOBS is my favorite shave cream. Thanks for sharing the video, Geo!
Hi Spectre-I used to feel the same way-until I gave the blade another chance in this video. It performed way better than expected.
Brilliant video, quite like the look of one of these, not to long so don't worry.
Thanks! I don't want to bore you guys to death, glad you don't think its too long.
I have the satin Future and snapping the top on and off is soooo satisfying.
I can relate...
Hi Geo, I am German and you are right. The way you pronounced ist right. I mean the German pronunciation. Danke für das Video :-)
Yes! Thanks Werner.
Futur has been my go-to razor since 2018. I use 3-4 with the grain and 1-2 across/against. 6 scares me haha
Nice! You've found the winning formula.
I am straight razor shaver but I recently bought the Futur bc I wanted to see what the hype around this razor was all about..... aint no hype. This thing is a BEAST. Even at setting 1 Holy Stromboli this thing is freaking AGGRESSIVE. You fellas looking for a shave similar to one you would get from a SR the Futur should be considered. I have never had to be careful shaving with a saftey razor until I used this thing. Freaking AWESOME! 👍only thing I don't like is the handle grip. if you get it wet you need to dry it off. Also if you want to adjust the setting after a pass you need to hold the head with a towel bc the finish is super smooth so you can easily slip your hand cut yourself.
Thanks for sharing your experience. bit.ly/FuturRubberCoated The Futur can be slippery, that's why we have a rubber coated version of it.
Just got it today, one of the best and closest saves I've ever had.
A beautiful razor. It was the first one I bought when I started wet shaving. Sadly the bulbous head ruins it by making almost impossible to shave under the nose or level up the sideburns (runways).
Nice and funny shave! :) Merkur Futur looks very good. I have clone of Merkur Futur that named Qshave. You used it before too. Maybe one day i buy original Futur :) Have a nice day.
Really great shave! Royal Forest's scent is inspired by Creed Aventus, just like Fine Platinum or RazoRock Emperor.
Thanks Andre!
Good video Geo👍
thank you for the video.
I'm 71 years old. In 1964, I went to the Worlds Fair held in Queens, New York. General Motors had an exhibit called Futurama (like the TV show). One of the predictions made was that we would have flying cars by the year 2000. No mention was made about personal computers, cell phones or the internet. One never knows what the future hold in store for us.
Geo can you do a video of how to disassemble the futur for maintenance?
Probably the best adjustable razor on the market. Nothing fidgety or goofy about it. And the dial does go below one. And it infinitely adjust from that point all the way to 6. I use it as a single pass razor on setting two and a half. It is a razor you must respect or it will bite you.
Thanks for the tips blaq. That's why I was taking my time with it. The heaviness of it especially on 6 can make it pretty aggressive.
@@geofatboy Good day Geo! My warning was for the newbies. You're definitely a pro. 😉 Your skill with handling a razor is mesmerizing. I've learned tons from you. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought the Futur as my first DA razor a year and a half ago. .... Lol. I gave it so much respect I stopped using it for a while and went to a Rockwell 6. I'm at the point now where I'm not getting bit using. As you said, let the weight of the razor and it sharpens of the blade do all the work.
Thanks for the response and extra special thanks for the super fast shipping on two different orders you sent to Houston Texas recently. You've got a customer for life.

TOBS Royal Forest Cream, lovely scent, great cream
Yummy!
My wife also liked Royal Forest and #50.
Both are very popular scents!
Hey Geo. Big Futur fan-bought several from you in the past. Question: do you have a video, or link to someone else’s video, that shows the “Geo Approved” method of dismantling and doing a maintenance cleaning of the Futur?
EDIT: nevermind-found your short on the topic. 👍
That was fast!
I bought this from you 10 years back the gold platting is now faded on the head and i cant seem to turn it to 1...(the lowest it turns to now is 2) i never bothered much with the 6 setting it would cause too much irritation and just use 2 at all times.. also id pair this razor with a feather blade and i can make that blade last for at least a month if not longer... i ordered now a new 38c and will keep this one as backup its still good but its begging to show its age
incredible! I always bleed somewhere on my face when I use this razor.
One more thing: Make sure the top plate snaps symmetrically onto the blade. Occassionally, it snaps on slantedly (is that the right word?) which could give you some nasty cuts.
these work great i bought a cheep one for 7$ the thing shaves fine easy two wash out the hair.. fantastic shave.. but the blade on mine was hard two get out..
Thanks Jason
Oddly, I happened to find a speed loader in the woods once. The roller rink where I was working had a break in, and apparently the cops walked through the woods looking for the perp, and one of them dropped a speed loader (they carried revolvers at the time). I wandered back there they following day looking for clues and found his speed loader.
Or-was it the clue you were looking for that the perp dropped...?
perfect shave
Thanks Samir!
OK, you've nailed the pronumciation of futur, now how about Mühle?
Thanks Edward. See a few comments above...
Great vid! 👍🏼💈1.21 Gigawatts?!?!? Doc, what the hell's a gigawatt ??? Lollll. 😂 Cool tip about the Plasti Dip. 👌🏼 If i have a slippery razor i'll rub my finger tips on an alum block, gives a lil better grip. That razor mowed that stubble down. 😳
Thanks very much! Wait! I seem to have misplaced my flux capacitor😂❗️
Your welcome! No flux capacitor? 😮 Can't time travel without it! 😄
I bought that q shave version and it works very well. Had anyone tried it?
I couldn't pay the $100+ for the futur
Funny story. My uncle and I were trimming out a house. I had just bought a brand new pair of Klein’s. They were purdy. 😂. We had temp power on the house via an extension cord from the temp pole to check and make sure everything worked properly. The homeowner had picked out a fan for the back porch which had just showed up. So I put it together and was about to hang it. I told my uncle to turn the switch off. Well, for whatever reason neither one of us realized it was on a three way switch. LOL. So he turned the switch into the down position. And I trusted him. Now my brand new pair of Klein’s became pathetic pair of side cutters with a good #10 wire stripper 😂.
Oh NO!!!!! I hate when that happens... Even worse on a NEW pair! Sparky got Sparked!
@@geofatboy 😂
One piece of advice: Use a towel to remove or snap the top plate on. Because your fingers might slip onto the blade.
Got it-Thanks for the tip!
Geo what razor would you recommend of the safety razors if you’re kind of hard on things and you might accidentally drop it or clumsy what’s the most durable and less likely to break
This bulletproof razor is right up your alley: czcams.com/video/X-zpzKpcVcM/video.html
It seems to me that it will be correct to install the blades according to the instructions. Put the blades on the razor and insert the cover.
The Merkur Progress is my go to razor.
Nice! Want to see a review of that one?
geofatboy I would love to see it Geo:)
First stroke at 15:08! New world record! 😁😂🤣😃

Geo, this was an amazing video. I love your information, your humor, and your lighthearted talks. Honestly, I didn't mind the rambling at all and it was nice to get to know your background a bit more (from an electrician to a business owner, that's awesome man). And thanks for covering the Futur and the TOBS Royal Forest Cream; this looks like an amazing razor and you showed it off very, very well. You're an awesome gentleman and I want to thank you for all the hard work you do for promoting your company and helping people get into wet shaving. I know you've helped me lots and I'm so glad to have followed you. Take care and have an amazing week ahead! 😊
Geo your beard grew back in seconds at the end of the video😂
I guess that can be considered part of the blooper. Nice catch, cause I didn't even notice that!
Man i haven't used mines in years lol i don't think I'll ever use anything but my Parker variant
You might want to revisit it...
Just bought this razor. Preparing for tomorrow morning. Going to choose 1. Hope I will survive against it)
How mild is setting no 1. Would it be good for someone transitioning from a cartridge razor.
Pretty mild. Close to probably the mildest. However it may be advisable for a beginner to use maybe 2/3 on the setting get a more efficient shave. A Merkur 34C is also a very good starting point for recent converts to DE shaving. Tried and tested and well spoken about and less expensive to dive into.
Can’t go wrong with TOBS creams.
Amen to that!
Can I buy that "speed loader" brush on your website?
Hi Johnny, we used to carry them but not sure if they're even around anymore...

I almost always get stinging feedback from the alum block.
Same, it's very rare I don't get any stinging at all
Lessen up your angle, try and use less pressure
@@AverageReviewsYT de
griff having sting just means u have a close shave, one always shaves some surface skin with whiskers. If this bothers u, u can use wetter lather, wet is slicker, less preasure and smaller angle at the blade, so u wont scrape as much. Happy shaves, hope this helps some.
Proper prep-good razor-sharp blade-proper angle. Enjoy!
