- In this video I get the 315 Falken RT660 tires mounted on the 18x10.5 Kansei KNP wheels and test fit them onto the autocross mustang. This is a square setup for autocross in CAM class. The front has some rubbing issues...

Thanks for the awesome tech tip video. The meat looks nice. 😁
Nice content! Im also running a similar setup with way more offset! Love the info on the channel
What wheels are you running?
@@RinerAutomotive 17x12 Longchamps! Getting some 18” soon, is a PITA to find tires on 17”
Its a widebody dualpurpose project! Just followed you on IG!
Yea definitely more options in 18s. That's cool doing drift and autocross. Completely different disciplines. Drifting looks fun.
Why not run less offset to push the rim further out to avoid the rubbing issues? Just availability?
Yea availability without buying a way pricier set or going custom. The overall plan is custom front suspension anyway where I can push the spindles out.
Hello Sir. Do you have photos of the wheels on the rear before adding the flairs? I’m curious to see how few they stick out if the quarter panel.
Thank you for your time.
I don't have a great picture of it but I found one that shows the car with those tires and without the flares. I'll post it on my Instagram today. I think the tires stuck out ~1 inch past the body.
Actually I found one that perfectly shows the rear tire. I'll post it on Instagram
I have 05 gt rims and 275/40zr18s on all 4 corners. My front wheels hit the sway bar on lock to lock. I need to do the longer lug studs and the spacer like you did.
You can also do steering rack stops to limit the steering angle
@RinerAutomotive lol so I can have the turning radius of a mid 90s chevy truck? Haha jkn. Thanks brother didn't know that was an option.
Ha yea everything is a compromise. It's what Ford did on the 03-04 Cobra to fit bigger wheels.
Ive actually got the same set of wheels, same size on order for my coyote fox, just hypersilver
I like the KNPs just wish they came wider. The 10.5 isn't ideal for the 315. Also you'll need "tuner" style lug nuts.
@@RinerAutomotive Yeah I didn't know about the lug nut situation before I watched your video unfortunately. I had planned on using the same kind you originally had. Not a big fan of the tuner style. Oh well, love the look of the wheels
Me neither, seems everything is a compromise 😕
iam running coilovers make sure run a 1 inch spacer in front. 10.5 wheel will rub swaybar and coilovers
Well it depends on your backspacing. I chose a wheel that moved more outboard to hopefully reduce rubbing. But I don't have coilovers so that's good advice to check that area also.
Are those 14 inch brake rotors? If so what kit are you using to retain the cobra calipers? And how do you like them?
No, they are the standard 13in cobra. It would be nice to run the newer 14in setup
@@RinerAutomotive Stoptech 4 pistion kit with 1.25" rotor width & Carbotech pads
what's the widest tires/wheels you can run on a front 97 cobra without rubbing? do they rub in the back too?
That's actually not an early answered question. There's a lot of factors at play. What ride height, alignment specs, use case, etc. I can safely say 9" with rack limiters, maybe 9.5". The rear can take much more width, the 10.5" fit with little or no modification.
u think 335 can fit in the rear without modifications?
335 might be tough without modifications. Cause that probably needs a 12" wheel.
@@RinerAutomotive can a 305 in a 10.5 wheel (15 offset) fit without modifications and stock suspension?
Rear no problem, front probably not. 03-04 Cobras have steering stops to keep things from hitting and those are much smaller than 305 on 10.5. The sway bar and fender liner are the typical things to hit first.
It’s possible to Mount 18x10.5 squared I did it, however when you get a BBk Things get more complicated, because of cleareance. I wish they made overfenders already.
I thought some companies made fiberglass over fenders, but they are pricey
@@RinerAutomotive there’s AIT racing that Doug Van Brink ran. I got the Jendosa (jdm) flares , haven’t had the heart to cut and Mount yet. Car needs a tune and prongs done. Build is at 85-90%
Was this 315/30 or 315/35 and how well did it fit on the 10.5 wheel? Was the sidewall a little bulgy and road a little floaty on the road?
315/30. They are a little pinched. But 10.5 does fall in the allowed wheel size by the manufacturer. I don't drive on the road so I can't answer the last question. My car is strictly for autocross.
@@RinerAutomotive what would differentiate an autocross suspension setup vs a track setup?
I'm not sure of the exact differences, it's probably fairly similar. But for autocross the acceleration, braking, and turning happen more abruptly than on track. For me I was just saying that I don't drive on the street very much. My car is trailered to each event.
@@RinerAutomotive hmm Icic. I always wanted to track or AUtox my Benz just for fun.
Autocross is perfect for that. Can race almost anything and have a great time
I have 18x10’s on 275/40 tires for the front of my car, all I needed was an 8mm spacer
What wheel offset? I think I could have gotten away with no spacer if had a stock sway bar or added more limiters to the steering rack.
@@RinerAutomotive they were run of the mill wheels for the rears. They’re American muscle wheels with a 6.3 backspace. No rubbing inside but it shredded my wheel liners and cut against the fender lips which I trimmed out of the way. I’m gonna make new wheel wells after I modify and recast new fenders
Making fiberglass fenders?
@@RinerAutomotive making carbon fenders. I have the equipment to make resin infusion stuff which is about as good as pre-preg. I have a new edge tho, I’d love to make stuff for you but I don’t have an sn95 donor
Oh that's cool stuff. I've watched some of AJ Hartman's carbon stuff.
Debating same thing... Run 275's presently with steering limiters some so tires don't eat my brake duck lines
Can you readjust the ducting to be more inboard? In order to run wider I had to have the extra width go outward (poke), while keeping similar backspacing.
@@RinerAutomotive Once I finishing Haltech ECU & aero it might be tire time. I will get a set of Proxy RR 275x40x17 & possibly RA1's for my other rims.
Those are good tires for road course I've heard. RA1 is/was spec tire for some NASA classes
@@RinerAutomotive endurance road course... last more like a 100tw and 10.5" footprint. 17's are somewhat cheap...
Ah that makes more sense. Nice
I use a rusty crowbar.
This was 315 what. 30 or 35 sorry not sure if I missed it
They were 315/30R18
Why the fuck would you put a 315 on the front 😂.
You're obviously not a racer.
