  • Ford has updated the Mondeo Hybrid for 2019 - you can have it as an estate now. Ford needn't have bothered. It's terrible.

    @Ambienfinity Před 4 lety +5

    Ford would be bloody stupid to refuse giving you cars to review in the future, Mark. I've heard you praise other models in their range, but the decline of the Mondeo just shows how car styling (SUVs) and technology (e.g. efficient hybrid drives from Toyota etc.) have left it behind. I cannot believe that boot. What's the point? Great, honest review. The best sound the car makes was you going through the pools of heavy rainwater (we're getting flooding down here in Cheshire).

    Get lost, no objective assessment to the car, constant complaining. Mondeo is one of the best cars built in the D segment.

      @marknichol8167 Před 4 lety

      Sorry that I think your car sucks, but opinions are subjective by nature, generally. That’s how reviews work. Objectively, the panel gaps are huge, the packaging of the hybrid system is awful, the transmission noise is higher than you’ll find in most systems, and the real world efficiency is little better than you’d find in a small capacity petrol engine, if at all. All stuff I mentioned in the review.

    Funny how the Mondeo has gone from the large family car of choice ten years ago to this. But then, Ford only sold a few hundred normal Mondeos to private buyers in 2018.
    They've clearly given this project to Sixth Form design students.

      I wonder how much of this generation of Mondeo was designed in the US, especially when compared to Mk4 (2007-2014)... and if that could be the reason why Mondeo has dropped the ball so horribly.
      An (maybe) interesting observation: The wagon version has this cheap-looking chain of LED "bulbs" in the rear lights, while the liftback version hes a modern-looking continuous stripes (as did the 2010-2014 Mk4, wagon or not.) The fact that one the version not sold in the US gets this cheap-ass crap thrown on it makes me think the US -engineers- beancounters might have had bigger say in the design that they should have.

    • @AndySnap
      @AndySnap Před 4 lety

      I do believe this current model Mondeo is an all American design, for Europe, and seem to recall the CEO of Ford delaying the release of the range for nearly a year, because it wasn't good enough... I stand to be corrected if anyone knows more.

    I know the Mondeo is out of fashion now but the styling inside and out is superb and normally the non-hybrid versions are great to drive. Build quality looks a bit rough and Ford reliability seems to be declining in recent years due to the well documented engine issues. The Corolla hybrid is obviously a much better choice, a hybrid is about economy and saving money and the Corolla delivers hybrid technology in a far more efficient reliable way. This Ford has what looks like a half-assed hybrid system especially that tiny battery. Being out of fashion means perhaps a bargain s/hand in a few years.

    It's tragic but Ford's engineering expertise went downhill when they went global and the responsibility for this segment went to the US. Truly tragic especially for a die-hard ex-Ford man. I'm simply crying.

    Interesting perspective 😂 I previously owned the 2.0 diesel varient of this, remapped from 150 to 180bhp.
    Overall I liked it. I didn't have any gripes with the interior, although mine was the higher spec titanium model.
    Definitely seemed to be angled towards comfort rather than sportiness, which was fine by me.
    I since purchased a Mazda6 which seems to have the upper hand in terms of agility.
    3rd and 4th gear accelation in the Mazda also feels brisker despite having 30 less bhp than the Ford (I guess it's because the Ford is a much heavier car..
    Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Mondeo... Personally I'd take either over an suv..

  • @FrankBurnside
    @FrankBurnside Před 2 lety +1

    Mondeo isn't that bad to be fair. CVT issue is common with all hybrids but one can learn to live with it. Comparing to PHEV is wrong as they are plugins(and you pay allot more).

      its a great car actually, but these reviews always have to go one way--shit on the cars to get clicks.. i drove toyota corolla hybrid, estate, and yeah i don't think so, mondeo is miles ahead in terms of sound proofing, isolation, suspension, even if mpg is worse than corrolla its just by small amount, i got 5.1 l/100 km on mondeo and 4.7 on corolla.. sorry to say but the video doesn't really encompass realistically how great this car is..

    So a better boat than a car. Shame that the Audi mild hybrid is so sophisticated compared to this. Probably costs twice as much though so sod them. My ford also has the tiny rear wiper switch on the end of the stalk that I only ever turn on by accident.

    I am currently half way through a rental of the saloon version of this car and it is by far, the worst car I’ve ever had the misfortune of driving.
    From a consumer perspective, I can summarise this car as follows:
    The drive train is absolutely appalling, no power, very noisy and forget accelerating uphill. It is far less efficient than your average diesel or modern petrol engine with none of the perks. It is enormous with less usable boot space than my 208 hatchback owing to most of the useful space taken up by the battery. It’s length combined with the turning circle of a boat, make it impossible to manoeuvre in confined spaces. It has a completely pointless ‘keyless start’ feature, so you could drive off with the keys on the roof, should you so desire, losing them for eternity and unable to restart your car once arrived at your destination. The pillars obscure oncoming traffic around corners. The touchscreen is so slow you’ll give up and use your phone for sat nav. If you do use the sat nav, that’s appalling as well. There’s not a single redeeming feature, I can’t wait to never see it again.
    I hate this car so much, I’ve left a comment on CZcams, which is about my fifth comment in 10 years.
