    I am going to beg to differ on the car overall. I think the current generation Fusion (what we call the current Mondeo state side) is leaps and bounds better than what they used to be. They are comfortable, very maneuverable, well designed and thought out cars. It's not meant to be a zippy little car, it's meant to get you from point A to B reliably. Ford's quality has been going up and up and up while others has been going down and down and down in the past 10+ years. I love them and it's going to be my first new car purchase once I get my 2001 Chevy Blazer ZR2 finished up.

      @@mardamek Europeans don't understand how much time North Americans actually spend driving, especially on our roads which are concrete (to resist the harsh climate) and very straight. I can easily do 35 000 - 45 000 kms per year and most of that is on Canadian highways. I don't need a car to handle the Nurburgring or the windy roads of the French Riviera, I want a comfortable car with soft suspension that absorb the ride on our roads.
      I have family and friends in Europe and they put MAYBE 15 000 kms on their cars per year. European roads are smooth and the cities are dense with very short distances, no wonder they value small sporty cars. Problem is European cars don't fare well in North American conditions.

So let's give the car a 8.5 - 9 .

    • @housepianist
      @housepianist Před 8 lety +6

      I have to agree. Ford built this car to appease the masses who want an all-around, well-built car. They have to think in terms of the number of people who will buy this car and for that, they focused on a complete package for everyday use rather than a specified track tool.
      Perhaps Ford could build a sportier version but again, they won't build it if they don't feel there's a market for it.

    I know that the 2017 model of the Ford Fusion is going to bring back the Sport trim like they did in 2010-2012. But this time instead of a naturally aspirated 3.5 V6 (263HP and 250ft-lb (or 338Nm)), Ford is now using a 2.7 Ecoboost V6 (Turbocharged 325HP and 350ft-lb (or 475Nm)). I wonder if Ford is going to make the Mondeo have a "Sport" Trim also. That will be an interesting car to review.

      +FoxTail8000 The v6 isn't necessary. I passed a Fusion sport in a 2011 Fusion SE with 2.5l 4cyl. The guy was actually trying to keep me from passing by accelerating hard. The 2.5l was my favorite engine. I've only had the V6s with awd. I hate the new steering, but I was wondering if the larger wheel package would make a difference. I've got "18's on one and "19's on the other '13 and '14. You'll have to convert to Metric on your own. Is the hatchback Euro/Mondeo spec only? They should have to test other cars for smell now. A bit nit picky if you ask me. It's an air filtration system not a gas mask. Never seen a Lexus or Merc filter system get tested like that. No real issues with any of 6 Fusions since 07.

  • @slanahesh

    You know you can spec this with sport suspension, and a sport body kit, and even a twin turbo 240hp petrol engine ( the 2017 refresh is getting a 325hp version). We've had it here for a few years and they sell very well. Unfortunately, you must have gotten our suspension settings that are dialed for the less aggressively driven masses that buy the majority. Which is good for Ford, but not so much for driving spiritedly. At least you can still get a manual transaxle. I just looked at Ford's website and all I see is automatic and CVT. That goes for the sensible hatchback too. Trunk only sedan here.

    I love the car I really do. It looks great and it's very comfortable. But they are right about the steering, it is not a driver's car. Although the steering is lacking, it is a very good daily commuter. I drive a lot of highways for work and it loves just cruising and soaking up miles. And the space in the car is great. I can fit all the camping gear and when my wife has a craft show my fusion has more space than her SUV. I give the fusion a 7/10 for the same reasons. Also because to change a bulb you have to take the bumper apart, not hard just a pain. Any other car I owned you turned a cover and changed the light and done. I would buy another only because I want the bigger motor lol

    I have to reluctantly admit that the European versions of the cars (this goes for pretty much all manufacturers) seem to be more driver-oriented and to the point than the American versions. One thing that is a plus with American versions is the choice of engines (or rather, the lack of it, but in a good way). Due to the lower cost of fuel, we get to do away with tiny lawn mower engines that the Europeans have to settle for; we only get the top 2 or 3 engines in the lineup. So, basically the base model of the American car is already at least a midrange model in the European market. While a good thing, indeed, it is not a full compensation for the blandness that an American market car inherently has.

It is also why we tend to have better handling cars, as we have corners. The only straight roads in the UK are either built by the Romans, or are motorways or duel carriage ways which tend to curve anyway. +aaron Barkus thanks. I saw the different roofline, but apart from that they look identical. We have Fusions in our company fleet in the UAE, but they are pretty basic I terror wise, still nice, but basic. I thought the Mondeo might just be more upmarket, but the saw a Fusion in South Africa which had a much more upmarket interior than the Fusion in the UAE. So clearly it is based on country specifications. So to conclude, it is the same car being marketed with different names.

    Why did they test a 1.5, it's a big heavy car, the 2 litre diesel is superb & for all those praising the Mazda 6, remember that Ford is the major shareholder in Mazda & they use some of their models to test future parts before putting them into Fords including the 6 that was used to test the new generation Mondeo engines.

    You buy this car for comfort and room. It excels as a comfie, roomy, reliable car. Nowadays cars of 3 to 4 years old with 50k on the clock are still good, reliable, contemporary cars. You can get this for £7k. Spares and servicing are cheap and it still looks nearly new.

      Americans are not willing to have a rough ride in exchange for good handling. American reviews are VERY critical about the rough ride of the German-tuned Ford Focus RS. Yet the Golf R is also German and has soft suspension & milder handling that is acceptable to Americans, go figure! :)

    You complain that you get the Mondeo three years after us yanks got ours but the MK7 Golf was unveiled in 2012 and we only started getting them at the tail-end of 2014. You got the Audi Q3 in 2011. When did we finally get it? 2014! Same story for the A3 and others. The grass is always greener I suppose...

    Since this car went on sale I have seen about 6 on the road.
    Compared to the old shape which sold like hotcakes when it was new, nobody seems to be buying these. Is it really that much worse than the old car or is it just that Ford isn't bothering to import them to the UK in big numbers anymore?

    • @energymc22
      @energymc22 Před 7 lety

      I think that things have changed over the 20+ years since the Mondeo was introduced - the company car drivers who used to buy them in droves along with Peugeot 406s, Vectras, Lagunas etc are now prefering more basic versions of Audi, Mercedes and BMW instead - the lower depreciation of the German brands is also part of this so very few non premium brands are being purchased in this segment.

    • @soundseeker63
      @soundseeker63 Před 7 lety

      Yes I realise badge snobbery counts for a lot nowadays. Virtually everyone wants a premium German brand of car on their driveway. Only thing is we are running into oversupply on the used market now which is starting to hurt residual values, and they are all getting irritatingly common, so we will soon end up back where we started. Who knows, maybe the Mondeo will be considered the "exclusive" choice in a few years time.
