- Sardines are high in protein and full of Omega 3 fats. These Sicilian Sardine Patties, also known as Polpette di Sarde alla Siciliana, are delicious and the addition of currants and toasted pine nuts to fish is typically Sicilian. The one nuts do add texture and a little bit of crunch. If you make bigger patties, they make a great main course for dinner. Serve with some mayonnaise or aioli.

Is there an alternative to breadcrumbs?
Crushed pork rinds
@dentside78 I've used those but, because they have no real absorbent properties, they're useless. OK as a 'filler' but don't work as a 'binder'
Google it.Many things
I have lightly toasted almond flour in a pan and used that in place of breadcrumbs.. It could probably be used without toasting.
Ah, a carnivore/keto alternative is chicken flour
what about the bones?
You'll never know they were there...
Fennel would be more traditional than mint.
Neither!Not with fish
Wrong! Pasta with fennel and sardines is a traditional Sicilian meal for St. Joseph's day.@@joanneblowey3001
very fattening recipe
It's healthy until she puts the dried currants into it.
Currants are fairly common addition in Sicily
Why is that unhealthy?
@@atides33It isn’t “unhealthy” per se. I think the comment is aimed at dried fruits tend to concentrate the sugars in the fruit and carb dodgers like me who live low carb lives because we are diet controlling T2D.
Sardines are a great low carb nutritionally dense source of omega 3 and the patty recipe is the sort of thing people like me are looking for. “If” we wanted a crumbed effect before frying we’d probably use crushed almonds instead.
