Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV 2022 - Km/lit with CVT, Better or Worse that 4-Speed Auto? YS Khong Driving

  • Now that the 2022 Perodua Myvi has moved to a Constantly Variable Transmission (CVT), I am sure many would be customers are curious to know if it can get better fuel efficiency than the old 4-speed automatic gearbox.
    YS Khong puts it to the test, doing a 'mixed' terrain run over a distance of 5o kilometers at normal speeds and a light throttle to simulate what a typical driver would get if he drives in a similar fashion.
    Note that the results are a reference point only, and also note that the speedometer and fuel consumption readouts are as supplied on the standard Myvi 1.5 AV, running on standard tyres as supplied with the car and the instruments have not been calibrated for accuracy. In other words, what you see is what you get.
    Also note that other tests may yield different results due to driving conditions, traffic, ambient temperature, and the weight of the driver's foot.

      I don't know for the new Myvi. But I've once try that on axia. According to the computer panel, I was doing around 17Km/L. But after calculate it by myself, I actually got around 19Km/L. My trip was 138km and was using around 7L of fuel. Only drove around 80-100km/h. So yeah, after that I was convinced that you can't trust that gauge 100%😅

    @xervexczymycur6226 Před 2 lety +4

    One commentator below mentioned about the range indicated in the MID panel. That is my question exactly. I noticed at the reset that the range shows 489 km and, after the 50 km drive, the range is down to 365 km, a difference of 124 km. The range dropped by 1 km for every 300 to 400 m driven. Something is not calibrated correctly. Although the range is dependent on the driving style, the difference should not be so great. My 13 year-old Corolla will quite accurately show a drop of 1 km in range for every 1 km travelled for normal travel. If traveling long distance and on a highway, at times the distance travelled will be slightly more than 1 km (between 1 km and up to 1.5 km) for each 1 km drop in the range, depending on the speed of the car.

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  Před 2 lety +3

      A good question. I didn't notice it, because I was looking at the consumption over the distance. Well, the video was not edited, and there was no monkey hiding in the bonnet, lol.

    • @xervexczymycur6226
      @xervexczymycur6226 Před 2 lety +2

      @@YSKhongDriving No, I don't think it has anything to do with your video. It is more a question for Perodua to look at as I think there is something not programmed correctly for this feature. Either the range is programmed wrongly and showed a high reading whenever the car is refueled or the drop in range for the distance travelled is not correct. Currently, it is disappointing to see the range dropped by 1 km for about 300 m to 400 m travelled.

Then reset an odo trip. Try drive within 100km or until fuel bar drop to 2 or 3 bar. Then go back to pump station refuel to full tank using 3x pump kick. Then just calculate trip based on sum of trip done divide by liter refuel.

    Uncle Khong, I am not an avid fan of CVT due to experiences I have from my wife's Proton Saga FLX which uses Punch CVT which jerk when you start to move or when you want to increase speed when driving. I bought a Myvi H in 2018 for my daughter and very happy with the Ancient 4 Speed AT transmission, but not as old as my Hyundai Elantra XD1.8GLS 2009 with 4AT transmission also. Hyundai AT perform seamlessly well for a 13years old car.
    My question, should I opt for the new Myvi AV with the DCVT transmission?

    Is it safe to say the fuel economy for this Myvi and the Yaris is about the same?

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  Před 2 lety +3

      You could say that, but weight of car and aerodynamics, plus the cvy and engine tuning would have some effect too, but yes, the two are close enough.

    Can have consumption for daily KL jam driving condition? eg. daily 2hr start-stop traffic, like in from PJ/Cheras/Sungai Long to KLCC. Those highway figures aren't exciting, achievable even with tech from cars 15~25yrs with 4AT back then. More interested in the worst condition than highway. Highway lazy-cruising fuel consumption is almost guessable in the range of 15km/L ~ 19km/L depend on the weight and number of passengers. However the video would be bored as hell to watch. :D Maybe just post the info in the video good enough haha.

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  Před 2 lety +2

      Doing a fc test in a jam is meaningless- I talked about it in the video.
      Also I ran the entire 48 minutes without a cut in any place because some people would then say the results are fake. It is also not edited so that you can see the exact conditions that we went through.
      We have close to 500 videos, so take your pick. Thanks for watching, though.

  • @Arco326
    @Arco326 Před 2 lety +1

    The real Consumption for Urban driving with highway included is much lower (12km-14km/litre ?) , let's try to be realistic ... The figures you quoted is on the speedometer dashboard and does not cumulate to the average consumption for 1 full tank of petrol based on the aforementioned Urban+highway mode.

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  Před 2 lety +3

      As I said in the video, what you see is what you get. The result is as tested, and the video is not edited so you can see exactly what went on, so take it at that level. If you want, you can do a test by yourself and come out with your own test results.

      The D-CVT is a split mode gearing system, gear & belt.
      At low speed the D-CVT is on gear before shift to belt & shift to gear to gear on the high end speed.
      (The slight jerk at low speed could be the power on physical gear via planetery gear set.)
