2003 Chevy avalanche 1500 here. Similar symptoms. Here in AZ (temps over 100degrees) is when I get extended cranks inconsistently. When it’s cold or sitting for a long time; no issues catching fast. Really gets extra cranky when driven at over 100, parked for an hour mid day then I attempt to start.
Check engine light pulls two codes for Evaporative Solenoid canister … might assist you. I’m leaning with you into leaky fuel injection issue.

I have a 08 that had these same exact symptoms... until this morning when i parked and ran in the gas station for 2 min tops... come back out and put it in reverse to fund out that it just died... tried to start and just wont start at all... towed home .. any additional advice???

Have kinda the same situation with my 01 Silverado 5.3. Mine only happens on cold starts. If I prime it, it starts right up. It will be fine all day unless it sits for like 3 or so hours. Anything less than that it starts right up. Mostly cold starts.🤷

That's the key, cold starts only think fuel like I am, mine is sporadic, turns out it's in another direction

It's got to be some other reason why it won't start.
As long as it has pressure of some sort it shouldn't loose it's prime.
But then again I'm not a "real" mechanic 😢
