    The keen-eyed will notice that the power only says 276HP at the start of the video. The actual power of the car is not displayed due to the Japanese "gentleman's agreement" regarding the power output of cars back in the day. The real power is detailed below:
    Car: 2000 Impreza WRX STi Sedan
    Settings: Power raised to 323HP (Oil Change, Racing ECU, Port Polish)
    Suspension: Full Customize | Spring Rate: 6.0 Front/5.0 Rear | Ride Height: 140mm all around | Shock Rebound: 7 Front/8 Rear | Shock Bound: 7 Front/8 Rear | Camber: -1.0 Front/ -0.5 Rear | Toe: None | Sway Bars: 3 Front/4 Rear
    Racing Brakes
    Dirt Tires
    LSD: None
    Weight Reduction Stage 1
    Car is basically set up for mild oversteer
    Someone on a forum asked why I chose Gran Turismo 3 over Gran Turismo 4 for this "Choose my Let's Play." It's pretty simple really.
    The long and short of it: Gran Turismo 3 simply plays better. Sure, it might not be more "realistic" than 4 (though 4's realism is debated the world around) but at least on the dirt rally courses, 3 is a lot more fun than 4. Maybe I just suck at 4. I don't know. I don't suck at 3 though. 4 was already a very understeery game, and this is true even on the dirt and snow tracks where it's critical that you achieve oversteer to slide elegantly through the bends.

    I'm garbage at these games, but every now and then I just wanna take a couple laps. GT3 is perfect for this. i feel like GT3 polished what the first two did, while GT4 nowadays just feels like the first step towards GT:S (in a manner of speaking). In other words, GT4 marked the first step for the rest of the series, while GT3 got the old stuff oh so right. Kinda like Zelda A Link to the Past vs Ocarina of Time

It takes patience, practice, and a desire to learn where you can improve to be successful. The way I went about it was pursuing all golds for the license tests for the completion percentage. A few of them took hours and dozens of repetitions, with ghost car replay being critical for comparison.

    If you're emulating this, using the wrong contoller will get you nowhere. If you're using a ps2 controller you're going to need the usb converter and itll work decently well. if you're using a ps3 controller over usb, you're probably using an xbox controller type driver. there are deadzones and the pressure sensitive buttons on x and square dont work. if you're using an xbox controller, you NEED to reconfigure the triggers to be gas and brake because they have a linear activation, meaning the softer you pull them, the less gas and brake youre using. seeing your gas indicator and brake indicator you're just either fulll throttle and full brake.
    Depending on what setup your using you need to set your controller to be able to take advantage of the pressure sensitive buttons to feather throttle and the brake. xbox controllers do not have pressure sensitive a y b x buttons. ps2 and ps3 does. so to fix this you need to either get a dongled bluetooth thing for ps3 or, change your triggers to be gas and brake on the xbox controller.

    It's not just the physics in GT4 that bother me;
    The licence tests are super boring due to the amount that's there, the whole game, while techically impressive, looks lifeless by comparison, and even though there are over 700 cars in the game, too many of them are either the same car with a different year/type of engine/suspension/body kit/whatever that doesn't feel any different from one or another, or a very boring japanese everyday car like the Life Step Van or Midget that just wreaks favouritism from japan.

    The first three GT games were basically drifting games, there was elegance to the driving once you mastered it but it was not an intuitive or realistic representation of traction.
    Everything had highly exaggerated oversteer (even the 4wd cars like Skyline, which made zero sense) and the game wanted you to take advantage of this and drift instead of cornering conservatively and relying on downforce and grip as you would in real life circuit racing.
    Personally, I hated the handling in GT3 and the way the game forced you to drive that way in licenses which were by far the most frustrating of any GT installment.

    • @SirHRDking
      @SirHRDking Před 5 lety +1

      It wouldn't be as good if it was optional. I think it helps you in a way because not only are the license tests hard, some of the race events and championships are hard as fuck. You can max out your car all you want it won't go the way you want it to go. GT World Championship is more stressful than some of the driving missions.

    Are we sure they went more sim in 4? 3 received the biggest backlash for being sim, and had a *huge* budget and backing. My impression is that 3 is better because it *is* more sim, the finest wine. Sim means math, logic, (reasons!) and not a lazy dice roll. I have yet to play a game like 3. I looked this vid up because I was curious to see if any of the later games are as good as 3. I'm sorry, I hate Forza.

    • @Maru96
      @Maru96 Před rokem +1

      3 is a bit more forgiving so in that sense it's less realistic, but 4's take on realism feels too fake at times. All in all 3 had a great balance of arcade and sim that aged better than GT4's take on realism.

    • @ChristopherEngle
      @ChristopherEngle Před rokem +1

      @@Maru96 I recently learned that my Gran Turismo tutorials didn't carry over to other games. I was obeying the path lines (they weren't adaptive back then). So I have been playing games wrong since LOL. But I still think random vectors have no place in sound simulation. Dirt 4 is like beating a large gorilla off of your morning toast, Gran 3 was a challenge on a gradient. I recently got to play 4 again and liked it, but the art was strangely stale (in game).

      g27 does work. You have to calibrate it in the options menu. For me I don't think a wheel is good for GT3. Probably because I've played with a controller over the years. It is 10x better on GT4 though.

    And there you have it at 6:20: "Far more enjoyable as far as racing goes-it's like nothing you can imagine doing". Two years ago I became OBSESSED with GT3 A Spec on my PS2, started from scratch with an old white Miata and worked my way eventually through the entire Beginner and most of Amateur Leagues and have acquired a playfully obscene amount of custom and stock road, race and rally cars that ALL perform differently...but of equal enjoyment. I bought GT4 to try as an upgrade and it's difficult and not as enjoyable, despite it looking more realistic and utterly beautiful ha. Go figure. Now excuse me I'm gonna go play Enduro on the Atari 2600 haha @turbgrafxretrogaming IG :)

Secondly, what was that horrible shimmering effect when you bump into things? It was just so cheap and ugly looking. Lastly, the game seems so huge and unapproachable, I couldn't get into it at all
