@@karelpipa No it wasn't, before GT3 pretty much no game really unlocked PS2's power for real. Almost all PS2 games in 2000 looked more like jacked up PS1 games.
0:49 and 1:01 The crepuscular rays through the trees is a really nice visual touch which is unfortunately paired back in 4 and gone in later iterations.
One of the things that could've been better in this game was having a co driver voice saying the pace notes for each upcoming corner, just like in real life rallying. However, due to the limitations of the PS2 hardware and for being an early PS2 game, I can see why they didn't include it.
Dont forget it ran at 576p not 4K which is many many times higher. ALso many people played PS2 through composite cables which were like 360p. It wasnt boxy on the real CRT TV like here on youtube though.

I feel like this is where Rally was dare i say more realistic and enjoyable? From GT4 onwards....the amount of oversteer they gave rally cars, I mean yes they should drift in the dirt but its crazy how floaty they feel and the jumps are terrible, feels like car has no weight and can land in the most awkward positions and this is all the way up to GT7 now. Dont get me started on "realism" when a plastic fence is as strong as a concrete wall lol. At least let us make a mistake and get off track, I hate getting corrected by that invincible orange fence.
Unpopular opinion Gran Turismo series lost the mojo since GT3 The game is good and solid, nobody is questioning this but for many people, me included, it was like a Gran Turismo 2 with 60fps and more cars. The series never evolved nor did something crazy like NFS with the Underground Series or Forza with Horizon Series, Polyphony always played in safe mode and despite being the right choice is the reason many people seem to not care about of it. It doesn't matter how engine you can swap, doesn't matter how fast the Tomahawk can go and surely no one cares of that pretentious "cAr cUlTuRe" bullshit Gt7 want us to buy It's too little, too late and it wasn't relevant
Cant imagine how shocked people were witnessing GT3 graphics after GT2

Why does the GT3 version of Trial Mountain slap so hard, they even removed the tree tunnel in GT7!! WTF Polyphony????

As a kid I remember being blown away by the "god rays" shining through the trees at Trial Mountain.
Every way you look at it, Gran Turismo 3 is a masterpiece. It will always be defined as a classic. I loved playing this iconic game growing up.

The Escudo Pikes Peak is still the best car in any racing game in my opinion.

The color grading makes this version of Trial Mountain look WAY better than in GT5/GT6.

I just picked this up for $6 I have so many memories with this game, it started my passion for cars and inspired me to actually get on a track.

I never played this game because i never had a PS2, but i will try to play using AetherSX2 emulator for Android.
just make sure you have a really good phone for it though, since GT3/GT4 we're hard to run games on it
