DD15 with bad compression, white smoke, can we save it with a valve adjustment

  • 2015 Freightliner Cascadia with a DD15 came in white smoke, bad idle and no power. Performed various tests to confirm the issue and tried to find the root cause of the problem
    A compression test can help narrow down any potential damage or problems. An Idle Speed Balance Test can help, injector cut out test and also a FSIC.
    After the first compression test showed the terrible numbers, a valve adjustment was performed and then another compression test. Some improvement was made but the damage may already be present and the engine may need to be repaired.

    I recently had a valve adjustment on my DD15 @ about 700k with none of the issues this truck had in the video but recommended as routine maintenance to my understanding a compression test determines the valve adjustment and on which cylinder and the idea is for each cylinder to operate at 95% or better?

    • @moethedeaf2746
      @moethedeaf2746 Před rokem +1

      No. Anything over 85% is Ok but, if all the cylinders are weak and the best one gets 100% and the rest give you 95% you still have an engine needing rebuilding

      @@supermariobronsmiranda6735 You have to understand that this is not a manual compression test. In manual compression test, you have a guage attached to the spark plug hole or something like that and you crank the engine and you read the gauge and see if it meets the specification. This is software compression test. It is different. The software assigns the best cylinder a 100% value and assigns the other cylinders values in comparison to the best one. So, if you test a very worn engine, you could still get very good percentages between 96% and 100% but that is meaningless because you still need to rebuild the engine. I hope you get what I mean now.

      Most of the time when the DPF has been deleted the DPF will be at Zone 5 (programming thing).
