    Yet another gr8 vid, my local council website was difficult to navigate but got there in the end. Was a TRF member a few years ago, I was out on a few GL's this morning. Such fun, not as long as yours but nevertheless just as fun. Membership renewed.

    Here in Kent we have a plague of unregistered offroad motorbikes, they are riding on A roads and through town centres. They are breaking down kissing gates, styles and fence posts in order access footpaths, bridleways and public open spaces. Local byeways tend to have aggregates or broken masonry hardening their surfaces, public footpaths don't; our public footpaths are being turned into impassable mud pits by illegal motorbikes. Walkers have to go the wrong side of trees to get past the mud pits, the motorbikes find the diversions and turn them into mud pits too, the trees then die allowing space for the quad bikes to ride on formerly narrow footpaths.
    Anyone photographing the illegal motorbikes is liable to be threatened or attacked. If walkers dispute the motorcyclists right of way the motorcyclists remove the footpath signs and claim it's a green lane.
    It's up to legal motorcyclists to stop using footpaths and bridleways and also put pressure on illegal motorcyclists to conform, after all the illegal motorcyclists are involved in the transport of drugs, motorbike theft and dumping burned out motorbikes in public open spaces.

      @@SIMONB1 On Bluebell Hill here in Kent police recently stopped 50 motorcyclists in a couple of hours. A few were charged with various offenses. Common Road eventually turns into a Byeway open to all traffic and then into a Bridleway, it is part of the North Downs Way long distance footpath and ancient trackway. Think of these ancient trackways like the Ho Chin Min Trail that the Americans tried to bomb during the Vietnam War, there is not a single path but a series of interconnecting paths. Bicycles carrying ammunition being pushed by peasants beat the USAF B52 bombers.
      There are 2 other Byways and several Public Footpaths connecting to Common Road on Bluebell Hill, the motorcyclists prefer to use the footpaths as they are not so steep.
      The police came out to Bluebell Hill following numerous complaints, the police will have reported to Kent County Council who have the authority to close all these byeways to motor vehicles. The bad motorcyclists riding on Public Footpaths and without number plates will drive out the good!
      In 43 AD the Roman Army marched along Common Road and camped overnight before battling to cross the River Medway the next day. The Ancient Britons nearly won and stopped the Roman Invasion. Is there to be a battle to stop the illegal motorbike invasion?

    I use the online os map on a site called Saturday Walkers Club. Any area I feel like visiting I just print off a page with all the byways clearly marked and double check the local councils map to double check I can still ride them. Many byways are still clearly marked and listed as BOAT's, but have been closed to all motor vehicles for many years.

    I joined the TRF to gain access to the trail map, I'm 64 and ride a GS 1200, it's quite a heavy bike and too many of the trails just aren't suitable for such a big bike with a weak kneed old fart like me on it especially after heavy rain. It would be great if the TRF could rate the trails on a difficulty and bike type suitability level, a trail you could fly down on a little Husky with 80/20 trail tyres on you may not even want to attempt on a GS with 50/50 tyres on.

      @SIMONB1  Před 6 měsíci

      Hey up Mick, hope you are well, there's a job for you then to evaluate all the lanes and categorise them 😉😁, maybe you need to have a look at the bike you are riding, a GS off road is a bit of a lump to pick up 😲, it's capable no doubt, but it's picking the thing up, there are loads of lighter bikes you could ride and tackle most if the lanes, or take a load of mates so they can pick your GS up 😂, ride safe, Simon B 😎

    • @mickemmett6828
      @mickemmett6828 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@SIMONB1 I love the GS as on the road it's a beast, it's just it's weight that limits it's off road use for me, in no way would I get rid of it, better for me would be to only go down relatively easy trails. The only way I would be able to tell if a trail was suitable for me or not would be whether I fell off or not 😁I'm not too keen on that, of course I could just chuck in a pension and buy a second smaller bike but then I'm faced with having to ride said smaller bike many miles on a tarmacked road to get to any decent trails🤔

    • @SIMONB1
      @SIMONB1  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@mickemmett6828 you can never have too many bikes, a second bike, 6k, a 690 KTM or husky, you don't have to sell the GS, the 690 will get you there and back to the lanes no worries, do the lanes 70 kg lighter, and then ride home, then you can evaluate the lanes then ride them in the GS, I like my GS ,but sometimes it's just too fooking heavy and big, small is the way fwd 😎😉👍

      @mickemmett6828 I'll have you know I've sold a bike so I have more room for another, I don't spend an hour to make room, it's one bike out and I have loads of room to work on a bike 😁, and I don't have enough bikes , ride safe, Simon B 😎

    This is a great help Simon
    I just needed a leg up to get started
    Cup of tea and a slice of cake when we meet
    One question
    If I join the TRF in Cumbria and go off on holiday in the UK
    Am I allowed to ride the lanes in another area or do I need an invite
    Thanks again

      Hey up, you can ride lanes anywhere in the country, you don't need permission, once in the TRF you can join another local group and ask questions about the lanes in their area, swap routes ect, ride safe, Simon B 😎

    A few weeks ago now I messaged our local TRF group through their webpage saying I wanted to join the local group, initially go on one of their beginner rides to get a feel for the group/style of riding etc and so far I’ve heard diddly squat back which is disappointing. 🙁

      Hey up Steve, I'm guessing you joined the TRF before you contacted them ?, as you really have to be a member to participate, some have web site presence. Most local groups have Facebook pages and are monitored more as all members are on it, so might be worth joining Facebook 🤔, hope you get sorted, ride safe, Simon B 😎

      @@SIMONB1 I knew I would have to join the TRF before I was allowed to go out with a local group but I thought in the first instance make contact with a local group, have a natter with them first, then join the TRF etc. Not being a full member prior to submitting a general enquiry through their website shouldn't negate at the very least some form of response. Not everyone is a fan of Facebook 👍

    The same people that won't share info on legal lanes, are the same folk that then moan about people being where they shouldn't.
    And when all the lanes are closed to legal use, you can either ride on our massive network of historic lanes, or you can give up your hobby. "More evidence" doesn't make a difference, they're closing them anyway. No one owns the land, it was here before us, it'll be here when we are long gone.
