Looking to be in a more familiar area and feel better grounded, I left California and drove ten hours straight to Seattle. I lived here for about four years working for a small company. So I know the area well. But ten hours of driving in a single day is a lot for me. I’m still getting settled in and getting reacquainted with Washington State.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

“The search for cargo pants!” Only Scott could make this interesting!
I moved from NorCal a year ago to Puerto Vallarta - I showed your vlogs to my Mexican GF to show what it's like where I come from, she was absolutely fascinated by your content.....as I was fascinated watching her watch LoL !
Love your laid back attitude and your prosaic reviews of ....coffee, milk, water etc. just humble things - Reminds me of Marcel Proust and how he could see beauty in the smallest thing.. like bread. Many of the other vanlife tubers constantly strive for the best experience, the best campsite, the best view, the best mountain - everyday stuff is fine with me if you are an interesting person.
I agree
You described the appeal of the is channel perfectly! ❤
Great video Static. I learned 3 new facts today: 1) "Cheap as chips." 2) Cheese sandwich, ungrilled. 3) An amazing view of Mt Rainier exists in a Target parking lot. Fantastic!
I was rather hoping to provide useful information. Oh well. Haha
I like driving far whenever I have something on my mind. I resigned from my job in 2007 & moved to Seattle. I lived on Juneau Street then I moved to Auburn. I was surprised that there's lots of snow & very warm summers. I love Rainier Cherries and yes I went to Mount Rainier as well.
I always look forward to your videos. I like how you just chat with us and talk about things and it’s just like hanging out with a close friend.
Thank you
I love West Seattle. It’s got everything. When I’ve stayed in Seattle I also liked the Magnolia neighborhood. Very quiet and has a huge park with hiking trails.
Yeah, it's got everything except a fucking sensible way to get there. Bridge: Sept! (maybe) Having lived at Alki years ago- I don't miss the traffic, noise, car racing, one ways, or beach riff-raff. Magnolia is nice and so affordable!; NOT! j/k, the deadness will make you want to have more kids!
You look happy to be back in Seattle, culture shock aside. Feeling grounded is good. 👍😎🇨🇦📷🌊🕊
Great video 10 hour drive lol you certainly don’t do that anymore. I’m going grab my coffee and watch rest of video. Thanks Scott I really appreciate you 😀
Wow! That was a fast 38 minutes. Thumbs up 👍
Who would choose McDonalds over homemade? I know I wouldn't.
I'm glad you have things like the lights and camera to keep you safe.
I lived in West Seattle for 10 years and this made me homesick. Have a great time.
It's great that you'd be able to he static for awhile that in itself is great
Scott, Your making a sound decision to return to a city that you know where it interfaces well with your mobile dwelling lifestyle. Your very thoughtful in advance of dilemmas becoming a crisis. Every city has its own culture and ambience. Always nice to shop where you like the brand and can get grocery items that you love. Small things are big things when they support your taste and comfort. Your good at teaching viewers how to figure things out in their own lives too. Do what you love.
I drive a converted 2018 PMC in Florida. I've been to Seattle 4 times in my life. Last time I was there was May of 2018 for a business conference (before the world was turned upside down). I flew into San Fran and I splurged on a Dodge Challenger with a Hemi for a week and drove the 1 north really slow over 3 days - stopped at Mendocino, Redwood National, Cannon Beach. The Oregon coast line did not disappoint. I bought a giant sandwich from Safeway when I left and ate it for lunch at ocean front rest stops 3 days in a row and somehow it stayed fresh in the trunk.
Pretty shirt.
Glad to see you in Seattle, love the area and to see Mt. Ranier. Can’t wait to see your dispersed camping spots! Oh yeah Cheap as Chips is said all the time along with Fine as Frog’s hair
Ha! Fine as Frog’s hair! Gotta remember that
I live in West Seattle. I love it. It's the sane part of Seattle. I also want to mention I did the Seattle /San Diego run in my Scion XA in 12 hours. A half hour less than Google Maps.
Cheap as chips? I’ve never heard that phrase before! I like it; I like alliteration. 👍🏻
It’s a British saying. I believe chips are what we call French fries. I guess they’d be cheap if old and stale. Haha
Great video, love to see the mountain. You’re right it is very noisy there. Quite the drive you had. Thanks for taking us along, stay safe on the roads.
Oh my goodness ten hour drive... Yes a good time to take a few days to rest up and get the small odd jobs done
Just want to share by saying the lovely blue in print shirt looks nice. The black or dark grey always looks good, yet this becomes your eye color... Really lovely
Struggling with The FLU! Been binging all day.
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
I like your scare light idea.
I would have a little fun with my pa system and robot cop voice impersonation. lol
Carkeek park is a nice place to park close to the water during the day.
I have considered installing exterior motion lights on my van for safety reasons. An exterior camera is also a good idea.
I have my cameras hooked up to my solar power system so they run 24/7
It’s super cool seeing Seattle. I’ve never been to WA or OR. I enjoy seeing your healthy food choices. A cheese sandwich is MY very favorite sandwich, also! Sometimes I like Brie with thinly sliced apples but usually just cheese, mayo & bread. With chips or fries maybe. Forget about it!! 🥪🥪💯✅
Static CamperVan is back! Time for a Northwest Meet-up.
Yes indeed!
I really like your shirt! ❤
Static your videos are so calming. Thank you.
I drove to Mojave from Seattle in one day and from Seattle to Mojave in one day before.
ez pz bro-love the simple steps you take to take care of specifics. minimalism is really simplism. thanks
I always thought you from Seattle. Especially for the fact that you ❤️ ☕️
Nope, SoCal
Wow 😮. Just starting to watch this. 👏 Summer 2019, drove 14 hours, mostly on I-5, from Neah Bay, Washington to Citrus Heights, California in one day. Beyond exhausted. 🥱
That’s a Big drive!!
@@StaticCamperVan Too BIG! Thanks.
Now you should drive on up to Vancouver.
Pretty unlikely. Wish I could.
I like being in cities that I am familure with. Less stress of having to figure everything out. I think Seattle would take me a minute but would be worth it. I would love to take in the art scene.
Just because u grew up in a place that’s gets well over 100 degrees (me too) doesn’t mean u want to still live there. I’ll take cold over hot ANY DAY!
You sound happy 😊
It’s been a good year
Not too crazy. We left SF at 11am and drove straight through to Seattle, where we live. Arrived around 11pm.
I just discovered your videos last week, and I’ve been watching ever since. Thank you. You remind me a lot of Jeff Blum. I just purchased a carbon steel pan and I love it.
Hey Thanks Judith. And happy to know you like your new pan
@@StaticCamperVan love that sense of humer
22hr to drive from Tacoma, WA to Escondido, CA
Seattle is a great city to live and visit. This is the first time you've looked really relaxed and happy in a long while. Welcome back to Washington state. Thanks for always sharing.
You might have missed my Mendocino videos
Welcome back !
Welcome back to Washington😎💜👏🏼
Hamilton View Point right above Alki...
My biggest problem at 73 years old and 12 years of 5 day drives to Mexico is "White Line Fever". This is after 10-12 hours of pavement I'll close my eyes for sleep and be too wired.
Yes, I’ve experienced that. Not fun
Great video 😊
Home Sweet Home 🤟🤘🤙
Actually I’m in Seattle not California
@@StaticCamperVan That's what I Meant 🤣🤣👍
Just now watching this vid.....as a road truck driver, I just don't have all the time to spare. But umm, I am here as a fan of your channel for the longhaul man! I enjoy your content immensely! I feel really good about supporting you and your channel.....I am NOT going anywhere dude! 😀😀😀
Thanks Smurf ✌🏼
Welcome back to Washington! I love driving, but that's a lot of driving in one day. I just drove from Brookings Oregon up to Seattle. Almost nine hours
We did almost the same trip
Great seeing you back in the Seattle area. 😉 enjoy
Welcome back to Seattle!
Cool. Ice really missed the vids you did in the PNW.
Be safe.
We should meet for lunch in Bellingham. But no coffee allowed.
It would be a pleasure to watch you enjoy a nice cup of coffee!
My favorite is "Cheap and Cheerful"...hope you enjoy being back in Seattle...tfs...
Reminds me of one of my favorite tv shows. Frazier. Goodnight Seattle we love you! Pack me on the top next trip. 😆
Haha. That’d be a windy ride
I think you had a need to get back to some familiarity, to a place that you've once lived and that you know. What else did we learn ? We learned to stay away from the big city and that you like sandwiches....hehe. Thanks for showing us some of the areas around Seattle. Looking forward to some disperse camping vids. Take care and enjoy your stay up there.
Enjoy your time in Seattle.
Thanks 💖💖💖
Good timing. September brings high Fire danger in CA. Unpredictable Winds + no precipitation.
I've been within jumping distance to the ocean for the last several weeks. Pretty safe place to be.
Hi Scott! Truly majestic view of the mountain. You seemed to be so excited to be back. How great that you could finally get your water filters and have them conveniently sent to a locker. Now it’s to getting them in and working on your fan. Have you been to that space needle? Is that what it’s called? There’s nothing like being back to living in comfort and familiar surroundings worry free. Good for your decision to make the long drive as it was worth it. Enjoy 😊
I’ve been around the Space Needle but not up it. I don’t care for heights
@@StaticCamperVan 👍🏻Gotcha
Welcome back! Moved here from the bay area 15 years ago and never looked back. Seattle is a great place to call home, especially when it's not raining 😂
Scott you sound happy to be back in Seattle. It's really been 2 years? Man, time flys!
Scott I really enjoyed the video today thank you for sharing here from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️😎
Thanks Mike
👍I love road trips. 😍
👍Yes, I’m surprised you’re back in Seattle. I’ve been there on business a few times but it’s not my favorite place although for some strange reason ny mom loved Seattle nevertheless, I’m glad being there it’s good for you. 💝
Awesome video
Welcome home.... saying hi from Ballard/Golden Gardens/Sunset Hill.
We are having a warm summer right now. We've had many over 80 days. We had 90+ days a few weeks ago.
Seattle just fits you!
Welcome back Static...
I'm rockin the sticker you gave me in my van. See you at Olympia coffee! Lol
Hope you’re doing awesome!
In Snohomish currently. It is warm. Cannot say it is hot at 80° when I am use to 100°. Will be going to California in late October to get away from the rain. Good to see you are up this far north.
Hey Scott... Glad you made it back to Washington state. I was born in Seattle.... So I guess that you could say I'm a native.
I live about 100 miles south of Seattle now. Seattle area has sure changed from when I grow up. Lot's of cool places here in the Northwest Olympic peninsula, North Cascades, Mt. Rainer.
:) Welcome back! Yes, we have had a record number of 90 degree days lately! I said Campervan Carolyn brought the heat from AZ as she visited family no too long ago... ALL THE BEST and stay cool! Cheers ! :)
Ah, yes. Carolyn brought the heat. Haha
Long drive, our first Alaska cruise was out of Seattle, also rode the Victoria clipper to Victoria once out of there. That brand of yogurt smells like dead frogs to me. 😀 Stay cool🥵
Drove right through my neck of the woods!
BoomStick is my safe word
Haha
I used to do Instacart in Seattle and surrounding cities lol. Crazy to drive. Enjoying seeing you there. I’m in Clarkston staying inside due to heat. Planning to move to Lynden now if it works out! I hate heat. You drove up from where I used to live in Arcata wish I was still there!!!🤠
I’m kinda wishing I was in Arcata, too. It’s much cooler there!
Welcome Back, West Seattle is nice 👍🏽
I recommend a walk through Schmitz Park (probably the only old growth trees left in all of Seattle).
✌🏼
That is very peaceful and beautiful area, enjoy your day. Try finding a Dollar Tree or Dallor Store you my find the screen for your door way there, that is were I found mine, not all have them. I lucked out I think
Love your videos
Wild & Crazy Static CamperVan Man 🤪
Wow Static, this is a surprise. But honestly, I think Seattle suits you. I prefer it to California. ☀️ Stay safe! Cheers ☕️
Until a few days ago, I was thinking Seattle wouldn't be on my itinerary until next year at the earliest.
Another beautiful place, lots of beautiful scenery, Target and Mt. Rainer as a breathtaking backdrop, life is good. I may order sourdough bread from Amazon, ha, ha. Glad you are looking fit and trim after an exhausting 10 hr. drive. I like your T-shirt, it looks new. Hope you find a great deal on cargo pants. I have 2 friends visiting me from my hometown and it is a struggle to be upbeat and cheerful. Your video has cheered me up and encouraged me to laugh at myself more and not be so uptight. I feel like you are becoming a good friend and it is awesome and an unexpected blessing in my life. God instructs us to be a blessings to others, to be humble, loving and kind, and you are gently spreading joy to so many in Cyberspace. Thank you Jesus for the grace of safe travel mercies for Scott on his journeys. God Bless!
Well, about time you came home! (tapping foot) 🌲🌲🌲
Home is where I roam
Hey Scott.. welcome back ! 😁👍 You're right..it has been very warm. Wondering if we're gonna have an Indian summer this year 🤔
Thanks. Let’s hope not!
I used to be stationed in San Diego with family in Seattle. Made that drive many times. It's about 19 hours normally, I've done it in 16.
Want to thank you for a healthy addition to our diet…frozen butternut squash. We love Amy’s soups and adding a half a bag of squash that has been microwaved is delicious and nutritious. Filling too. Have tried Kroger organic variety and wal mart regularkind cheaper too. Today for lunch we had Amy’s French country vegetable with the squash added to our half a can with half a pouch of quinoa rice blend pouch added. So good! Would be easy meal for you even without the rice. Would love to see you ramble around Carkeek, golden gardens , Greenlake too.
Gerolsteiner! I got my dad hooked on it too.
I love my cheese and mayo sandwiches, mostly grew up here in Washington, a plunger in a bucket will work for small loads of clothes. Mt Rainier is great no matter what side view you see. Sometimes you can find DOL with mailboxes, the one at grandmound exit 88 I-5, only costs 8.50 for small or 10 for larger per month, no deposit. Safe and secure in those places and cheaper than UPS Stores by far at $75 for 3 mo.
Thanks. Good info
Yeah, if you go with USPS POB be sure to click on all the locations in the area because the pricing is not the same. More popular ones are more expensive. If you are getting a lot of mail and packages it's a good deal. Get the 6 mo or yearly plan, you'll be refunded if you close it sooner. I pick up mail once a month. Plus you can sign up for informed delivery where you'll see what's arrived. Most pob are 24 hour access.
PNW FTW
cool video, who's telling you mcdonald's is cheaper? lmao a meal is like $10 these days. not to mention the cost on your health. you keep doing you. love the videos.
I just arrived in Mendocino!!! It’s sooo wonderful. I bought a Folsom Tin Cloth Hat that I didn’t need, grrrh. But it’s just so Mendocino. Lol. Love your longer vids. 😻
You’re at my home? Awesome. If you want to buy more stuff, my friends wife owns the sock shop on Ukiah St.
It’s a wonderful place. Hope you enjoy it!
BTW: Pike Place, Seattle, where REI was born in 1938. It was located at Pike Place for decades. Today the newer REI "Mother Store" as it's known is still nearby, closer to the Space Needle. But I digress... NICE VIDEO!
Seattle really has some pretty places. I bet you're happy to be back home. I visited about 17 years ago when attending a conference. Really enjoyed Pike Place, the Space Needle, & the ferry to Bainbridge Island. I'm sure everything has changed quite a bit.
Seattle isn't home. But it's an easy place for vanlife
@@StaticCamperVan I guess home is where you're van is! 😊 Have to admit, I'm a little envious.
Be safe 🇬🇧👸🏼🇬🇧
😊
If you happen to be driving north, Everett has a nice laundromat called “Laundry Genius.” 🤙😎
Not to far from a grocery outlet also. 😂I like similar grocery stores.
There’s a lot of cool stuff in Snohomish County. I really like the bike path from Snohomish to Arlington. Everett is a mix, there is definitely some parts that are a bit rough around the edges, but there’s some nice stuff there too.
Haven’t spent much time in that area
@@StaticCamperVan it’s 30 miles north of Seattle; another 60 miles gets you to Bellingham. It’s nicely situated.
I’ve driven through but not stopped. I have a few vlogs from my time up in Bellingham. It’s nice up there.
Wow! That's a lot of driving in one day! I've never been to Seattle. You showed some nice areas, but too many people for me! 😳
Enjoy your last bit of summer even if it's a steamy 80° (only 62 here today). The cold of winter will be here before we know it.
Btw, I like to dip tortilla chips in plain Greek yogurt. Yum! 😊
Tortilla chips and yogurt? That’s a new one
@@StaticCamperVan I've been using Greek yogurt for years as a substitute for sour cream. If you put some salt, dried minced onion and a little dill in it, it makes a great chip dip. That and a side of fruit or veggies and you have a delicious lunch full of probiotics. 👍
If they have a Sierra store around there, try that for cargo pants. It is a discount sport clothing store.
I hear ya in regard to naps. No naps in Texas unless you’re in ac. Can’t wait for fall…
Try 4 days to La Paz, Mexico. So do your 10 hours, wake up repeat, repeat, repeat
