Great film and a well known seasoned cast in this black and white movie classic which I hadn't seen before: 'JUNGLE HEAT' (1957) Lex BARKER, Mari BLANCHARD. The film studios sure don't make interestingly honest and relevent stories like this today. I really enjoyed the film. Thanks for posting it!

In the 1950's there was a Readers' Digest article, 'I spied On Pearl Harbor For Japan' - words to that effect, by a Japanese national who spied on Pearl Harbor from surrounding hills and reported American naval ships harbored there. We hear a lot of bleeding hearts for the Japanese internment and I'm sure nearly all the Japanese-Americans in California were loyal American citizens (I know about the Japanese-American Nisei 442nd Army regiment that was the most decorated in the war), but it only takes a few to be effective spies. When you get bombed like Pearl Harbor it's the Americans' call on what to do about the Japanese nationals along the Pacific coast. Those internees were not treated like American prisoners in Japan who did slave labor and many died. Hawaii was ripe for Japanese subversion; the natives largely hated us for exploiting their islands and the Japanese probably could have captured the whole islands and held them with cadres of natives in trained military units. I was stationed in Hawaii in 1965 and many of the natives still resented if not hated us. It's tough about the internment that is treated like a war crime by anti-American apologists.

Not the best of movies, simply a stepping stone for Lex to pay the bills, preparing him for his eventual screen magic part as Old Shatterhand in the German Winnetou series. Just like Charlton Heston was born to be Ben Hur after a string of stepping stones, Lex Barker was born to be Old Shatterhand.
Both were blessed with amazing faces & physiques.

One to ten, I would give it a three. Tribes?? Not that I ever heard of. Heat? Not so, humidity yes. Only "heat" day that I ever experienced was downtown in Honolulu in August. Having read and studied Dec 7, closely it can be said that there were a lot of Japanese spies prior to that date. Especially in the Pearl Harbor area.

Oh this is so goody-goody with magnified graciousness in the Japanese home, which changes nothing. I've been to Japan and in their homes and they're some of my favorite foreign people, in fact actually my favorite. They're fine people that were misled by the military regime that ruled everything; read the history and get the facts. I'm obviously not speaking out of negative prejudice, it's just that the facts of the Pearl Harbor attack, which I believe Roosevelt provoked, are the facts and that is what must be taken into account when the exigencies of sudden war arise. And yes, I know about the Japanese atrocities in the war that were mainly instigated by Tojo who was hanged for them.

Man, this movie is ALL KINDS of racist! And anti-labor organizing, to boot! Odd that such an anti-asian, anti-hawaiian movie was made at this late a date. Only two years before Hawaiian statehood, this definitely seems like someone's idea of anti-statehood propaganda. Not very entertaining, but curious, to say the least.
