    Thanks for watching! What is your favorite controller to use with Nintendo Switch?

      I do like the official Pro Controller for most Switch games. Though, for retro games I actually like the 8Bitdo SN30 controller for retro games due to the superior dpad. Also, for Smash Ultimate, I exclusively use a GameCube controller.

    Something to note: That "compartment" under the cradle is not just a compartment. It's a USB passthrough. If you connect the cradle with the dongle inside to the Switch or to your PC, you can set the controller to 2.4 GHz mode and it will connect. You do NOT need to take it out and use another USB port

  • @ddnava96
    @ddnava96 Před 3 měsíci +5

    My overall points on the controller:
    Pros:
    - You can connect the cradle to a pc, giving you a literal switch on the back of the controller to switch between pc (2.4 GHz dongle) and Switch (Bluetooth)
    - Hall-effect sticks
    - Solid D-Pad
    - You can hold Select+X to switch the 2.4 GHz mode between DInput (gives gyro data but triggers become buttons) and XInput (no gyro data but triggers are analog)
    - Customizable back buttons
    - Up to 3 Switch profiles and 3 XInput profiles (DInput will utilize the Switch profiles)
    - The cradle is just too convenient. No more plugging a cable into the controller ever (configuration on Windows can be done in 2.4 GHz mode)
    Cons:
    - No HD rumble. Default rumble is too strong, so I suggest tuning it down because it will also affect gyro data
    - Some very very very small vertical bounce on gyro after suddenly stopping from quick movements. Barely noticeable and you get used to it
    - No NFC (amiibo)
    That's all. For all the pros, I think this controller is well worth it. The only actually important con is the lack of HD rumble but most games underutilize it anyway

    Thanks for the great review, Chase! I just got one of these controllers and loving it so far.
    I do have a question that perhaps you can help answer and solve a mystery that’s bothered me for years now. At 4:50 (cons review), what is the music from playing in the background? I thought it was from Conker’s Bad Fur Day or one of the Banjo games, but couldn’t find the reference. I have had this song in my head for the longest time and whistle it on occasion… each time with me asking myself “wtf is this song?!?” lol

    Great video! Thank you for the review! I've been a bit fed up with buying Nintendo's Pro Controllers as I've had two Pro Controllers get drift issues only after about two years each. I don't use rumble at all, so I'd gladly sacrifice that feature just to have a solid analog stick as well as a better dpad.
    I'm curious if you could do a button transplant for the Ultimate to make the face buttons feel more like the official Switch Pro Controller?

      Hm, I feel like it could be difficult to pull off changing the face buttons because it would require modifying the entire outer shell? But that would be really cool!

  • @conorstewart2214

    The lack of RFID and HD rumble support is likely to do with proprietary protocols on Nintendo's part. There is a good chance they can't reverse engineer it or legally can't implement it and I can't see that changing soon, if ever.

    Hi, thank you for the review. Does the 8bitdo ultimate controller have a 3.5mm combo jack audio/mic ? I have a wired headset I like to put on my DS4.
    If it has not, do you know a bluetooth controller PC/Switch/Android with a combo jack on it ?
    Cheers

    • @ChaseYama
      @ChaseYama  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! The 8BitDo Ultimate Controller does not have a 3.5mm jack. Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to come by any wireless Switch controllers with a 3.5mm jack; if any even exist at all. The closest I've been able to find is the PowerA Fusion Pro which does have a 3.5mm jack, however it can only be used when the controller is plugged in using wired mode.

    Everyone cries about the missing hd rumble feature. But as good as no game uses hd rumble. Except 1-2 switch. The rest of the whole switch games uses normal rumble. The only real bummer would be the missing amiibo feature. But guys...that's why there is custom firmware.

    3:56 "There has yet to be a proper fix to joystick drift"
    Wrong. Gulikit, the ones who made the KingKong Pro 2 controller AND the 8bitdo Ultimate sticks also makes hall-effect joy con stick replacements

    • @conorstewart2214
      @conorstewart2214 Před měsícem

      Joystick drift has been a solved problem for a very long time. Another type of controller that had joystick drift issues is drone transmitters, for a long time now half decent and even some cheap transmitters have used hall effect gimbals.
      They could have used hall effect joysticks in game controllers years ago but they haven't (at least the main companies) most likely because normal potentiometer joysticks are cheaper and if they wear out then most people would just buy a new controller.
      So joystick drift has been fixed even before Gulikit since hall effect joysticks/gimbals have existed for longer. Hall effect joysticks were used in the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast but they stopped using them and they were mostly forgotten about for game controllers until more recently where the public have been made more aware of joystick drift and that there is a very easy (albeit slightly more expensive) solution.

    Does the controller have good response time? or at least close to the pro controller

    • @ChaseYama
      @ChaseYama  Před 2 měsíci

      I'm not too knowledgable when it comes to response time and latency. I personally don't notice much of a difference between the two controllers.
      However, according to gamepadla, the Switch Pro Controller has an average 15.13ms latency while the 8BitDo Ultimate has an average 13.93ms. The 8BitDo controller also comes with the 2.4GHz dongle which bumps it down to an average 9.65ms.

    Am I missing something? I swear this controller has been out for years? Is it a revised model or something?

    • @duckbyll
      @duckbyll Před 3 měsíci

      Revised model. Hall effect sticks are the big new feature, Joysticks that *should* never drift

    • @conorstewart2214
      @conorstewart2214 Před měsícem

      @@duckbyll they shouldn't drift since the only components getting worn are bearings and springs (which can generally handle a lot of wear), not a resistive track that needs pressure to work (hence increasing friction and wear) like potentiometers have.

    @ShadowedSadness Před 2 měsíci

    Note:
    You don’t even have to plug the controller into your PC.
    I own every console and a PC, and there are some PC games I personally prefer to play with controller. What I do, is I leave the included USB plugged into the PC. And there’s a switch on the back. Meaning with quite literally a flip of a switch I can go from playing on my switch to it connecting to my PC.
