North Maroon Peak - Colorado 14er Dayhike

  • The Maroon Bells (North and South Maroon Peak) are Colorado’s most recognized mountains, for these peaks are likely the most photographed mountains in North America. The popularity is easily explainable; in spring, summer, fall and winter, these peaks are stunning to look at. North Maroon isn’t as strenuous, and doesn’t have the route finding issues of South Maroon but, it is steeper and more technical.

      Thank you Isabella. I really loved this hike and the risk on weather was higher than I normally preferred in hiking 14ers yet the reward was a safe journey and incredible clouds.

    Great hike, congrats 🎉. Usually I don’t like clouds ☁️ on my hikes, but for this one it was a bonus! Great views and some cool hiking companions. BTW, goats are jerks…

    Wow, this one is really spooky up on top! I’ve been most everywhere you can jeep to in Colorado .
    But I can’t imagine being on top of those particular mountains.

    I listen and watch your videos daily on youtube while on the eliptical. 5 years ago at 5'9" I weighted 254 lbs. I found myself at 13,150 on Quandary and unable to continue...and it had always been a dream of mine to climb. I went to work...diet and exercise and lost over 100lbs. The next year I did Quandary and the Decalibron. So far I've done 11 summits of 7 different 14ers....and I'm gonna do even more. Your videos are a source of inspiration for me! KEEP THEM COMING!

    Awesome. I’ve knocked out 20 14ers in the past year since moving to CO but my trips are currently on hold due to the smoke. I’m hoping I can get back at it soon and keep working my way to being a finisher in 2021. I always check to see if you have a video of a peak while planning my hikes to help with the beta. Thanks for filming these videos! I apologize if I missed you saying it in the video, but how many do you have left? I imagine you must be close to finishing the 14ers.

    I just hiked Pyramid Peak. Individually, how comparable are NM and M to Pyramid in terms of sections of hiking. I especially curious bout the steepness of the NM gullies.

    • @FoorTrek
      @FoorTrek  Před 2 lety

      Congrats Emily on Pyramid! They're all steep and loose rock. Nothing like the elks. North Maroon gullies are very steep and route finding can be tricky as there were cairns that were misplaced, yet if you have the 14ers app, follow photos, and have coordinates, you'll find your way. Maroon I found route finding to be a more difficult than North Maroon or Pyramid.

    Nice Work!! Great Views! Congrats on finishing those 3. We are doing Snowmass on Aug 29th if interested. We are doing the 'S' ridge. First time I did it, we did the west ridge, which was fun, but 'S' ridge looks like a blast! I am done with the 58 and 4 traverses, and this will be #58 for my buddy. Let us know if you want to knock that one off.

      @timothyhaines556 Před 3 lety +2

      Aspen is far enough south that you might be lucky that it blows usually from west to east.
      However, lately, the wind has been coming out of the north which is really bad luck for visibility.

    • @FoorTrek
      @FoorTrek  Před 3 lety +1

      Everyday is an unknown at this point. Tim is right. The fires are getting bigger. Until they're contained and that seems like it is going to be a while.

    • @nonstop1861
      @nonstop1861 Před 3 lety

      Okay thank you! I just hope everyone there stays safe even if we do have to reschedule. As of right now it looks like our drive is clear of fires if we are able to use independence pass, which I am unfamiliar with unfortunately. If not, then CB May be our best option. Problem being I drive a bmw and don’t think it will do well on the CB side.

    • @timothyhaines556
      @timothyhaines556 Před 3 lety +1

      @@nonstop1861 . Independence Pass is a good bet, but the last I heard there's a 2 hour delay on the 2 hour detour. Great views, but half of the Interstate traffic is trying to use the pass. There's 3 spots where it's single lane, and you squeeze by as you can. I've heard about Cottonwood Pass too. It's a dirt road though.

    • @nonstop1861
      @nonstop1861 Před 3 lety

    Amazing views!! Was this footage taken before the wildfires? I’m wondering what you think about hiking the Decalibron- I’ve read that even if the wildfires are far away, the smoke can be dangerous. Do you have any thoughts?

    • @FoorTrek
      @FoorTrek  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, before the wildfires. Certainly the smoke can be dangerous, but monitor NOAA and where the smoke will be because it changes. Pick a good weather day and lower smoke levels.
