- This is part one of a three part extreme hiking series in my quest to finish off the Colorado 14ers. From Purgatory Trailhead north of Durango, the Chicago Basin hike to FOUR 14ers. 50 Miles. Started at 2 am, finished past 10pm. Join me in an incredible journey to get all four in one day.
You are a true inspiration - and I love that you express gratitude and appreciation for being able to do this, not boastful or braggy. Keep living the dream!
Thank you Marcus. A little more kindness and sharing positive things in the world goes so much further than the opposite.
What an inspiration you are sir !!! Omg !! I just adore that drive in you . Salute !!
I am hiking. In fact, I have a BIG announcement coming in a short few weeks. If you would like to know what I'm currently working on, please head over to Instagram @fooryoursuccess! I promise it's worth it.
Well done old timer. Impressive indeed. See ya on the trails.
"One step at a time, that's how u accomplish big goals." Great words of wisdom from what I call my hiking hero. U R THE MAN. Thanks for the journey. We will come together again for another hike one day. Proud of u my friend!!!
GREAT to hear from you Camo! I hope you are well. Hoping our paths meet again.
You have redefined the meaning of Grand Slam, as well as ambition! Congratulations, and thank you so very much for taking us all along on this great adventure!
Thank you! Guess I should have trademarked "Grand Slam" 150 years ago. :-)
Whoop whoop good job
What an amazing day that was!
Dr. Foor I’ve followed You for the last couple of years. Not only are You tough, You rock! Congratulations! I enjoy Your videos, toughness and enthusiasm.
Thank you John. It's been quite a journey the last few years. Hard to believe I fell 400 feet last year to come back and accomplish such feats.
It’s outta here, Grand Slam! This has to be the most impressive hike I’ve ever seen you do. 50 miles, four 14teeners in one day... are you kidding me! You are, “The Man”.
Thank you Deric. I knew how difficult it would be, yet the reward is so much more.
The Chicago Slam!!! Heck yeah!!! Way to go dude!!
Thank you so much!
Good work and great video
Outstanding! You are so inspiring.
LOVE IT! Thank you.
Another gorgeous summit hike. Weather couldn’t get any better. As always, many thanks for transporting us.
The perfect weather summer day. So rare in the state to have zero chance of precipitation, so I took advantage of it!
Very well done, that truly was an accomplishment, but it's worth the pain to have those memories to look back on.
I totally agree Chris. I remember how hard the last few miles was running R2R2R at the Grand Canyon. Such a blessing to accomplish such feats.
@@FoorTrek Savour your victory Brandon, it's yours forever. In those tough situations, you've just got to keep putting one foot in front of the other and telling yourself, that's one step nearer my goal.
@@christhornley1664 100%
Epic. Probably the most beautiful area in the state next to the Indian peaks
It really is incredible there. I'm very happy I could share it with you!
Bravo!! What an accomplishment. My wife and I hike 14ers when we come to Colorado but we don't have the skill set to do much more than 2+, maybe some 3 but it was awesome to come along on your journey. Well Done.
Subscribe and watch me hike them all :-)
This has to be your all time best video. What an accomplishment!
Thanks Dillon. Most appreciated!
Impressive day hike.
I thought so. LOL
Thanks for the inspiration and the great documentation. That’s incredible you got them all in one day and in 50 miles ! Badass is quite the understatement.
Thanks Matt. It's great being a 14er Finisher!
Simply AWESOME! You exemplify the very best of the human spirit. I truly admire you. Rock on, Brandon!
Gracious and kind, just like you Laney. Thank you.
You are truly an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your journey!
Thank you Austin. I'm so glad I could share the adventure.
Wow!! Way to go Dr. Foor, You're the MAN!!
Thank you so much Pete!
@@FoorTrek Thank you for all the inspiration!
You are so amazing! I've been enjoying your videos and they give me inspiration for new peaks to hike. You've truly outdone yourself! Congratulations!
Thank you Terri for the kind words! Keep on hiking!
Congrats....great vid and VERY inspiring, thank you !
Thank you so much!
🤩 wow you are totally amazing! I’ve been looking forward to this video! The energy and power to do all of these 4 while starting from Purgatory 😮 goals!! Much respect to you !!! Truly amazing! Congrats 🍾
Thanks for being a part of the journey Diana. You've got an awesome one yourself and I enjoy all your photos on IG.
Wow !!!
Truly, truly impressive !
Thank you Angela!
Way to go! I’m glad you made it to the end.
Me too!
Standing ovation! 👏👏👏👏 Congratulations Dr FOUR!!!!
YES SIR!
Awesome!
Appreciate the extreme adventure as always.
Stay safe!
Thank you
Impressive...Brutal and beautiful!
It was a blessing to accomplish such a feat.
Wow! This is next level! Awesome work!
Thank you :-)
This is absolutely insane. I can't believe you actually dayhiked Chicago Basin from Purgatory! Great job!
Ethan, you're doing great. Congrats on summiting Crestone Needle. Keep on truckin.
Hoping one day Mediocre Amateur invites you as a special guest on Their CZcams Channel
Those guys are great.
Semper Fi, you are an inspiration!
Thank you Bill. I worked hard for this one, or should I say four!
UNREAL!! amazing views and wow you had to descend quite a bit - over and over/ just amazing, Well Done Sir!!
Oh man, thank you so much. I trained and worked so hard for this.
Beast mode! Congrats!
Thank you Josh. Beast mode indeed!
Always an inspiration! Your commentary is the best. Congrats! 🎉🏆 Even when you’re exhausted, it seems like no big deal! Not sure how you do it. Thank you for sharing your adventures!
Oh I assure you, it's a big deal. LOL
Man you are amazing! This is really something extraordinary to accomplish.
Thank you so much Wei!
Dude, You’re unbelievable!!!
8 hours from Purgatory to Sunlight, wow! And then cookin’ it like a chef from Benihana‘s the rest of the peaks. This is amazing! Thank you for sharing this, I’m so tempted to try this! 😀💙
I KNOW you can hike these four Scott.
dude!!!!!!!! you are such a beast. Thanks for getting me and my family back into 14ers!
Thanks for being a subscriber for FOUR years! Glad you're back at it enjoying nature!
Wow, impressive and inspiring! Strong work!!
Thank you Eric!
Very impressive!
Thanks!
What can I say? Extraordinary! Congratulations!
Thank you so much Charles!
You are da Man!!!! Awesome..., Congratulations 🎉 what a fantastic accomplishment and perfect day for sure! I can’t even imagine doing four and then trail run the last few miles LOL. Just getting to Humphreys Peak every step & breath is hard work after the saddle. Well done... Congratulations again 😃
Thank you so much! It's been quite a journey.
pop OFF Dr. Foor!
BOOM!
I've watched this video a few times and it still blows me away. Taking on the summit ridge of Eolus when you are already gassed must take incredible mental fortitude. Love the fact your commentary remains upbeat and positive throughout. Looking forward to more videos, and I hope we cross paths someday in the hills!
I really appreciate this comment. It's a combination of many things that you've stated and frankly: you have to enjoy suffering at an incredibly high level for something joyous in life. For me, that's giving it my all in the mountains and the good tidings they bring.
What the heck! That was insane. New subscriber and was not expecting that! Amazing job.
Welcome Thomas and thank you for the kind words. It's a tough one!
Incredible!
Thank you Mark!
Congrats!! Love seeing the Mountain Goats, they are my favorite animals in Colorado besides the Pika.
The goats were everywhere since so few people. Wish I had a video of the baby goat screaming. LOL
Impressive! Ever since you put the trailer up I was looking forward to watching this video. What a year you’ve had so far!
Thank you. It's been a long road and I'm thrilled about the accomplishment!
Brandon, this could not have come at a better time. I have my first 50 mile ultramarathon coming up in about two weeks (in the Grayson Highlands) and seeing you CRUSH these four brutal 14ers and cover 50 MILES yourself has given me so much inspiration. THANK YOU! What a beautiful day and Twin Lakes was gorgeous too. I could spend all day in those mountains...
You mentioned at the end of the video that you were going to trail run out of there....have you ever given any thought to ultra racing (in the mountains)? I feel like it would be right up your alley -- and it is the best type of running because everyone just walks the hills, you get to eat great food, plus you get great views as a bonus! Some great trail running communities out there in CO....some food for thought after you complete your quest of accomplishing every 14er in the state.
Thanks for a great adventure. My eyes were glued to the screen for every minute of this!
Congrats to you Josh! You're gonna CRUSH the highlands. Yes, at mile 40, I was running and well before it too. I trailrun quite a bit for training for the tough peaks. I've thought about it and maybe I'll get into it. For now, I"m grateful just to share my experiences out in nature. Just wait till what is next.
Wow. I did this from Needleton, but this! Wow. Hat is off to you, Sir.
I had plans to do this last year, but after my fall, that was over. It's a dry year and with less tourists, it was now or never.
It's such an inspiration watching all your videos. I sadly got altitude sickness when I tried doing Mount Muscoco in July. But I probably bit off more than I could chew for my first climb. Maybe next time I visit Colorado.
You can always see a doctor and get a prescription for altitude before you come back to Colorado. Not to worry, we learn more from our attempts when we don't summit.
Congrats on the Slam! Awesome to see it done all the way from Purgatory. I've been training for it myself because I don't get the time off needed to camp in the basin. Reassuring to see someone else put it down.
It can be done. Hopefully by July or August you can find some bluebird days, start early, and enjoy the journey….or should I say the pain to pure joy of accomplishment.
Daaaaaaang! And I thought my 3 mile run was impressive! Well done, this is really inspiring for folks like me. Maybe someday I'll be in good enough shape XD
Depends how much elevation you did in 3 miles. :-)
Wild that you did all of this in one day! I’ve tackled 12, and 18 miles at most in one day. You’re a beast! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 super impressive!
Thank you! It took a while to build the ability to accomplish such a feat. That's more crazy is I took just one day off before doing Diente, Wilson, and Wilson Peak.
Finally got to sit down and watch this video after my first full week here in CO. Thanks for the advice along the way. Ended up with 10 14ers in 6 days. Was hoping to do the ridge up to quandary right after decalibron make it 11, but the 60+mph wind gusts and the terrible smoke crushed my enthusiasm. But I'll take the 10! Until next time CO!
Well done Eddie. You did what most DREAM of in their first Colorado visit. You're hooked and ready for more.
This is just amazing. I can not even imagine how you felt after finishing it up. My toughest hike ever was Mt. Whitney as a day hike, this seems an order of magnitude more difficult. Hats off to you sir for such a moment of inspiration.
Whitney is great. I've got videos of that hike too. I can assure you, this is not even comparable.
I don't think I could dayhike Mt. Whitney in the time he took to do this Grand Slam.
WOW!!! That must have been hard! Good job.
As uncle Ben said, "with great power comes great responsibility."
Of course!!!!
Oooh finally! I was wondering when this was gonna drop.
Drop it like it's hot.
FoorYourSuccess That was epic Dr Foor. Very inspirational.
@@doyouevennaturebro4593 Thank you. :-)
Congrats! Keep up the good work!!! 🔥
Thanks Jared. More extreme hiking to come.
FoorYourSuccess Heck yeah! Looking forward to it. If you’re ever down here in Albuquerque, NM where I live, come try the La Luz trail up to Sandia Peak. Wouldn’t surprise me if you’ve already done it considering the many peaks you’ve already hiked lmao 😂
@@jaredrice660 I know that hike but actually never done it. Seems like it would be a good fall hike. I would assume the tram isn't running now.
FoorYourSuccess It actually is open which is surprising.
Jesus dude! Your are a animal.... 50k, elevation, 4 summits in one day... You sir are a hiking god!
Just a man Justin that trained so hard for this. Thank you for the compliments!
Holy crap, that's amazing! We backpacked up to the basin, camped and climbed Windom the next day. I can't imagine hiking that far and doing all 4, pretty amazing, congrats !
Thank you. It's remote and hard to get to...a great place to camp!
@@FoorTrek Yes, the goats invaded our camp a few times but it was a great trip. We took the train from Silverton to Needleton
@@nmgaucho The train is running this year but not to Needleton. So it's either purgatory hiking or 24th century transporters.
@@FoorTrek Did you hop out on to the summit block at Sunlight or was it too windy? Many that have done it say it's about the scariest thing they have ever done, jumping back from it
@@nmgaucho I did. Too windy for a video. You definitely need to keep your wits as it's quite steep.
Beast
Awesome!!! Do you have any plans to do any instructional videos? Gear, navigation, diet, training, etc? Or do you recommend any resources for beginners?
Wow, this was a great day.
Indeed. Such a blessing to accomplish and that I can share!
I waited, and it is here
In all my exhausted glory.
FoorYourSuccess awesome hike though!
@@zacharylewis11 Absolutely. It was a perfect weather day and I'm so blessed to accomplish this as a dayhike (run).
Inspired
The highest compliment! Thank you.
I can hear the helicopter coming to pick you up again.
GET IN THE CHOPPER! LOL
Dude! You are HARDCORE. I have a hard time getting up to get the remote for my TV.
We all have those days. :-)
This is elite af folks. I'd want at least three days for this, especially coming from Purgatory. One day absolutely blows my mind.
Thank you. I trained a lot for this challenge and was thrilled to accomplish this and now all the 14ers.
That's pretty insane. There is no way I would be running those final 10 miles!
I actually ran the last 20 :-)
@@FoorTrek Wow, you are on another level!
Awesome accomplishment!! Thank you for keeping us refreshed with amazing Colorado adventures! Curious what camera(s) you use to document your journeys?
iPhone XS Max
Wow!
Thank you Hugo!
Dr. Foor, if you read this, we need to know- what was more challenging- this hike or the rim to rim to rim hike? Thanks for the videos, I love the positive attitude.
They're different. Both incredibly difficult. This grand slam I would say was harder.
@@FoorTrek thanks for the reply!
YESSSSSSS
By the 4th 14er, I felt like I was sacked by a steamrolling linebacker. :-)
@@FoorTrek not as bad as getting pancaked by a O Linemen!!
@@MrJoeTheShow23 LOL
Amazing athletic accomplishment Dr. Foor! Relentless tenacity with supreme mental and physical fortitude.
I bet even Alex 3 hour 56 minute free solo of El Capitain Honnold would be impressed. Are we sure you're not a cyborg, a 14'er Terminator, T1458? He'll be baaaacck.
Any idea of how much elevation gain over the 50 mile expedition?
I'm definitely human. I am not from another planet brought to bring hiking videos. LOL The elevation is somewhere in the 14K to 16K range.
Thank you sir! I'm half assedly following in your footsteps, can you advise on some 12 ers to 13ers, that are not , you know, requiring balls of steel, haha, here in Colorado, going to bison peak via ute valley, meant to go last week, didn't ha e the chance.
Try Grizzly Peak. It's the highest 13er you can get in Colorado!
@@FoorTrek awesome, ty, will do that one next.
Awesome! Quick question given your experience - I'm at 39/58 (all this summer, doing often multiple a day). The most technical I've done is Sunlight (El Diente and Mt Wilson), and I'm wondering if it would be a stretch to do Little Bear and Capitol Peak? And how it compares to Pyramid, Snowmass, North Marroon and Crestone Needle?
Hi Simon. Little Bear and Capitol are the hardest 14ers to accomplish. That doesn't mean it's a big stretch, yet your experience will be tested. From the others your listed just from a technical standpoint, Snowmass is the easiest and Pyramid is probably the hardest. So in order (and only my opinion from easiest to hardest): Snowmass, Needle, Maroon, N Maroon, and Pyramid.
@@FoorTrek Thanks, super helpful!
absolutely awe inspiring. what was your pack like for this?
Light and fast. Because I didn't camp, I carried as little water as possible. Refilled with a straw at the lakes.
How many times did you have to filter water? That's a great spot at 2:00. When the train is running, how far is that from the train?
Filtered water three times. Light and fast was the goal for my pack to carry. The train is running, but not stopping at the Needleton stop. That's where most would go to hike or camp at the Chicago Basin. Purgatory adds 10 miles each way.
How much elevation did that total? That was a fantastic video!
Thank you! I don’t remember the total elevation gain for one day but it’s well over 15,000 feet.
We’re you concerned hiking the lower elevations near purgatory and the river in the dark with risk of mountain lions?
WOW! We hiked in from Purgatory day 1, hiked all 4 day 2 and hiked out day 3....you are incredible. How much of this route did you trail run?
Thank you. I ran about 40%.
Damn bro imma do this but not over 1 day 😂 I’ll backpack it
Go for it Cameron!
I'm impressed. I did a few 20 mile days when I was younger, and they exhausted me. What's next? Nolan's 14?
Thank you Russ. I worked hard for this one! I looking forward to fall and getting back to Zion and the Grand Canyon.
Nice! Enjoy your Grand Canyon and Zion videos very much as well!
Quite the achievement. Did you never consider hiking in and camping overnight at the base?
Light and fast is the way to go for me. Anyone who camps there knows the problems goats bring.
How long do you take to recover after a hike like that? Long distance and a lot of vert. I’m doing R2R2R in October so that’s around 46 miles. Great job!
Check out my R2R2R video. Maybe I'll see you there! I hiked three more 14ers after one day of rest.
Congratulations!!!!!! WOW!!!! What an incredible accomplishment!! All of these hikes look dangerous with the sheer cliffs and the loose rocks. I had trouble just walking to the bathroom and back because of the altitude when I was in Colorado. Do you ever feel like you get altitude sickness? I know you live in Colorado but adjusting to the altitude is difficult. All of your videos are incredible and a little bit scary. Do you ever hike anything but 14ers? Are you trying to hike all the mountains in Colorado?
Hate things didn't work out to where we could have met when i was there but maybe next time.
Happy hiking.
Hi June! You should subscribe to see all my videos. You'll see 13ers, 14ers, National Parks, easy hikes and then stuff like this. Sometimes, I do get altitude issues, but it's rare. I have no plans on hiking all 600 13ers. :-)
oh these videos have comments turned on again, nice!
Sure do. Welcome!
this is def a hard day hike -- but it's more like 38 or 39 miles...
holy sh!!t u crzy
Say it with me, "passionate". LOL
You are whack!! Hats off!
Yes, a little off indeed.
Didn't do Sunlight Spire, not impressed
I hope you understand my sarcasm haha
