  • There are four main keys to focus on when searching for diamonds at the Crater of Diamonds State Park. I go over Method wet sifting in this video, as it is the most productive method to find a diamond.

    Thank you for posting these. I was still very clueless on my last trip, attempting to wet sift. I look forward to doing more.

    oh and, those wooden box screens i think could be nice if they had stainless steel latches to help keep the screens together, especially for the younger visitors that go there, so they could use the screens as well and not have the huge width of them to contend with. so, while that might slightly increase the cost it could be a useful addition to them as maybe an option to consider out there. of course, for those who bring or make their own screens, that isn't an issue i would suppose. for my Dad and I, we use buckets to screen into using a 1/4 and 1/8 mesh bucket screen that sit into the bucket and then Saruca that material in two batches, keeping like sizes together usually. but, i have always thought it may be possible to skip a step and only screen down to the plus and minus 1/4 mesh in a single step, so you have the 1/8 mesh stuff along with the 20 mesh plus. but, at the same time, i also want to make a mechanical Saruca that i could use to support more material weight and save the back a bit, so a screen with a shape to help center the heavies, with simple vertical shakes, if it worked, would be epic.

    Good job. Excellent technique. Do you also check your screen to make sure nothing is stuck in it?

    I really enjoy watching your videos and trying to learn new techniques and tricks to explore. I’m only been to the crater one time and to me it was just a trial run to get to know the weather, terrain, and the area around the crater. I was there 2 weeks ago.
    I’m not sure if you still monitor these comments but if so I have a question.
    Does the size of your wash tub matter. I’m using a 1 1/2 foot x 2 foot x 8 inch deep container and when trying to make a loaf my material tends to come higher on the saruca closest to me to the point of over flow and not much material if any on the farthest part to the point of bare screen. I tried with less material and the same happened.
    P.s. I’ve been looking thru your and other CZcams videos and haven’t found a general overview of the part. Like from standing at the entrance ramp where is the north, south, west east drain, snake pit, or other areas that ppl talk about in there pages. I’ve watched some of miner Ivins CZcams and he talks about the west, east, north drains and the snake pit etc. but nothing that says when you come off the entrance ramp you want to look for “blank” when looking for this area.

      Hello! The size of tub can matter when it comes to the use to center your material. The off-center center is usually just due to a lean when you work the material or tires arms or shoulders. Also, make sure you have enough material in the saruca. It needs to be about 1/4 inch or so from the top. The water in your tub needs to be clean though. If you wash material and make the water soupy with minerals and silt, the specific gravity will be a little different and you wont have as good of centers. Always center in clean water if possible. Be sure the saruca bounces on finger tips and hands are on opposite sides directly across from one another. I hope this helps, please let me know how you do!!

      This helps a lot, I had my wife watch me and she said I was trying to force it rather than just letting it happen. When I slowed down some I was able to make a loaf a little better. With more practice I’m sure I’ll get it. Thank you for your help.

  • @EddieSchirmer

    would it be possible to use a rounded or conical, or upside down pyramidal shaped screen to make centers with? as in, could you use the shape of the screen to concentrate the heavies into the center for a flip? i was thinking it could be nice if the shape of the screen and very basic side to side shakes (and a 90 degree turn of course) would do well, rather than purely flat screens, like most Sarucas.

    • @TheArkansasDiamondMiner
      @TheArkansasDiamondMiner  Před 2 lety +2

      The original African sarucas were bowl shaped and worked well. I have seen a very large set, they were probably 2’ across. I would have hated to work them for a day.

    Thank you for the tips! I’d like to buy a saruca through your link, but what’s the best size? I heard you say the park provides 16 mesh, but I was thinking you’ve mentioned 20 mesh in some other videos

      Thanks for watching, I hope these videos help! I like the 16 mesh myself. You can go through volume a bit quicker and not have to worry about silt as much.

      Best times to visit in my opinion are spring and fall. The heat and humidity in summer are pretty intense! As for equipment, you can get a Muddy Miner Saruca on Amazon to practice with before you go. There are box screens available at the park for rent, and there are shops that rent and sell equipment there in town near the park. If you can get the hang of centering the heavies with a saruca, you’ll be a full day ahead on preparedness, as it takes a little practice. Good luck on your hunt!!!!!

      @@ernestmagdaleno217 there is an occasional peridot found, and garnets as well. Rarely are these gem quality. There are probably more gem quality diamonds found than peridot and Garnet. There are also quartz mines in the area that produce very nice points and clusters.
