  • Hey guys! This past Friday, two of my sons and I visited The Willie Rickard rock farm for our very first time. We had a lot of fun!!
There are a number of different types of quartz you can find here...sand and chlorite inclusions, along with hematite inclusions. You can also have the opportunity to find some really large crystals here. In this video I'll show you a pocket that Brent (the owner) is currently working on, and the crystals are only about 5-6 feet down and are larger than my head. I wish I had a few days straight to dig at this location to really get into some good material!
Hope y'all enjoy this introductory video to The Willie Rickard rock farm located in Paron, Arkansas!
    Thanks, and God Bless!
    -Joe

Thank you! I always try to include them when I can. Depending on their schedules, and if they want to get up at 3 am with me to make the drive is the biggest determining factor for them coming...something about wanting a good night's sleep?? Whatever that is...🤣

It was a fun experience. After visiting once and getting a little experience under my belt, I feel like I can do better my next time around. Each location has their own subtleties with pros and cons. It seems you really have to go a couple of times to really know a place and get a feel for it.

Thanks for the video, been vascilating between here and Twin Creek pocket dig for a while, it helped confirm my decision of which to take the fam to this summer.

Speaking to you as a dad of 6 kids right now…If you’re wanting to take your family, the digging area at Twin Creek will be larger and already established. The digging area at The Willie Rickard is smaller and will require more upfront work with digging to find crystals. There will be more tailings at Twin Creek, and kids will find a ton of smaller points and clusters, but the chances of finding more rare and really large crystals are so much better at The Willie Rickard. It just depends on what you’re going for.

@@joedadbod8450 I have 6 as well, and my dad is tagging along, so 9 total, that’s exactly the decision maker for me. But, I’m paying for a pocket so hopefully we’ll have plenty to dig for.

This is a copy/paste of a reply to another comment:
If you are on Facebook, look up Brent Rickard. I met him through a Facebook group called Arkansas Rockhounds. He was posting some material that he had been pulling out of his pocket, and I wanted to give it a try. So, I messaged him back and forth a few times and I was able to get a date set in my schedule where I had this past Friday off of work, and he was available for us coming out for a dig. I don’t have a number for him or anything, just FB Messenger.

@@michaelspiering7585 for a budget pocket dig exclusive for you, probably Twin Creek.
You can dig both tailings and find seams in walls in the $25 dig areas of Sweet Surrender, Avatar, Twin Creek, and here at The Willie Rickard you have an opportunity to find a vein and work it as well. Crystal Vista is free and you can try to locate a vein there also. Flash Mountain has all kinds of potential too, so much just a few inches to a few feet under the surface.
All of them will require some work though, breaking a lot of rock isn’t always easy.
