The Significance of Ash Wednesday

  • They may just be ashes, but Fr. Mike points out that what they represent goes far beyond mere dust of the earth. With a simple cross on the forehead, we are recognizing that we are far from perfect, but that God loves and redeems us-not despite our brokenness, but in the midst of it. If you want to start off your Lent with a reminder of Ash Wednesday’s deeper meaning, listen to Fr. Mike’s heartfelt words in this video.

I watch alot of Catholic videos, because I am halfway through converting from atheism. I love watching Ascension Presents and Bishop Barron in particular, and I just want to say that this is the most honest and emotional display of faith and virtue that I have seen yet. God bless you Father Schmitz .. Keep up the good work. I am a solo Father trying desperately to guide my son to Jesus, through the teachings of the Catholic church. If it wasn't for your efforts (and the efforts of others, such as Bishop Barron) then I don't think I would get very far. May God bless you all and guide the Holy Spirit to empower your surmons.

I’m becoming Catholic, fully immersed in RCIA right now. The last three minutes of this video are what it’s all about. I’m looking forward to my first Ash Wednesday where I really know its true meaning. Moving away from sin, opening my heart to the love of our Lord Jesus Christ, becoming a better person, there’s no better feeling. I’m truly living the happiest days of my life.

I feel love, comfort, forgiveness as well as brokenness when I was listening to the readings and songs. I walked around with the cross on my forehead the whole day because it felt safe to have the cross on. At first, I did felt uncertain because people did looked at me while I was walking to class but eventually I didn't care because I'd rather feel safe than regret not having the cross on my forehead. I’m a catholic youth and I’m trying to be closer to my faith and god, and I’m trying to understand more about everything that we do and when he said what the cross meant it brought me to tears like i always know god loves me but to hear the words in that way was just very touching and made me understand more what it truly meant to be a child of god

I love it, Fr. Mike! I hate to say I am proud of my ashes, but do love the outward sign of Holy Mother Church being on my forehead all day. A Catholic who needs to come home might see it and consider going to confession.

Thank you, Father Mike. I have cried through my Masses & my prayers for most of my life. These tears today were so special, as they brought me closer to our Lord. I wish you every Lenten Blessing. Am a very tired Covid nurse & Jesus has carried me through so much. Thank you for the wonderful lessons, which I need so much. I love how our Lord uses all our wonderful discoveries (the internet) for His greater glory. I swear, once you begin to see how God weaves everything together, you can not stop seeing His hand all around, in your day. Master Weaver & Abba, please bless your servant, Father Mike with all the gifts he will need to help carry us, until we can walk, then run to the loving arms of Jesus. May the Mercy of my Jesus carry you always, in agape. ✝️❣

+Michael Larson It's sad that many people are taught the lies and deceit of the pagan perverted catholic faith. And why the prayers to mother mary for intercession to Jesus? You're praying to a dead woman that was just as sinful as the rest of us. Praying to dead people or trying to communicate with them is called Necromancy. Read Ecclesiastes 9:5. KJV. Prayers on behalf of the dead have no meaning, for nothing can be changed by them. God's Word shows that the dead no longer have any physical or mental activity (Psalm 146:4;Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10). Each person who dies sleeps in his grave in unconsciousness until the resurrection (John 5:28-29; Daniel 12:2; Job 19:25-26; 14:12-14; John 3:13; Acts 2:29, 34). Clearly, prayers should be for the living while there is still hope of repentance, not for the dead, who can do nothing. Abstaining from pagan invented holi-days like the mass of christ or christmass is another invention of the catholic faith.

+Ears14U excuse me?! If we even call the lands Jesus walked in holy, then how should we approach to the womb that carried him Carried God. You are just insulting her even if you don't realize. And you cannot follow Christ while insulting the person he (God) called 'Mother'.
