  • This is a great Idea from a Tankless company to use the internal pump to run the fluid through the system.
It's so simple procedure to follow to setup the controller to do the decaling.
Remember you can only do this if your using the middle recirculation port on the unit. It will not work with a cross over valve. Once you get into the descale mode you chose the time you want the pump to run, after the pump will turn off.
With the Navien two filters they do not remove from the housing, so you will have to clean the two filters first reinstall them and proceed to descale the unit.
There is one filter on the cold-water inlet side of the unit (right) and one under the pump, both are exactly the same.
We actually set it for another 20 minutes when the timer went off.
If you have a question, please e mail me at economyplmbg@aolcom
I have started a consulting business because some of your problems are very extensive to Solve, figure out and layout for install. Some people I've spent hours and days helping them.
Please e mail me and I will let you know the cost, it's not very expensive the price is between $100.00 and $150,00
I hope you enjoy the video,
    Mike

I have a Navien combi unit., domestic hot water and heating water for a radiant heating system. I have done one service so far. i used white vinegar in the descaling process for 45 minutes, with a portable sump pump in a bucket. My water filters were clean, even after 1+ years of continuous use. There was one more step in cleaning the air intake filter to the unit, which you didn't mention on your unit. An other filter serviced was the acid neutralizing cartridge for the unit's condensate.

Thank you for the comment. We did run the pump for another 20 minutes I had to change the PC board and front controller due to a electric surge. That’s why the unit was flashing red. That’s correct about the air intake, I will be doing that on the normal flush video I will be doing. Mike

Always enjoy your videos. Some of the best. I do want to clarify one statement you made about the INT/EXT valve setting inside the unit. You said that if you have an external pump that you would need to set it to EXT. That’s true but so as not to confuse folks, you also need to set the valve to EXT if you use a dedicated recirculation line without an external pump since the internal pump will provide the flow for recirculation. (BTW I wish I had seen this video before I did my first annual descaling. I would have save the cost of the portable external pump I bought for my bucket!)

Couldnt you just open the cold after a flush and leave the bypass hot hose running to a drain and flush it well before opening it to the system? Wouldn't that prevent flushing at every faucet? Or did I misunderstand that?

One should be able to do this with any internal pump. Just have to figure out how to run the external circulation.

I did not know about using the internal pump to descale and other YT videos never show this. If you are using internal circulation and have a service valve on the recir port, can you still use this method?

Very interesting not using an external pump , one more way to pitch that heater to the next costumer

Hi I’m following this process with the same tankless unit. My pump is running, service ports open, no fluid being circulated. Any troubleshooting tips?

some or the unites you need to power it up first by running a faucet then unplug it. It fakes out the water servo valve.

Can you do this with a 240A model also? If so what are the settings?

If you talking about an electric tankless no you cant.

@@ThatTanklessGuy I have the same question. I have a natural gas, 240a model but cannot find the descale setting in the advance/service menu. Can the recirculation pump be used on the 240A as you have done for the 240A2?
