The different models of Navien tankless heaters and what they do.
I get a lot of questions about the different model and sizes of Navien tankless heaters and which one they should install. So here we go.
Navien makes three different tankless heaters for domestic hot water. They make other models for heating only and their combi-boiler that does heating and domestic hot water.
Here are the models and sizes,
NPE-A2 this is the one with circulation completability weather you have a dedicated circulation line, or you are going to use a Navi-Circ.
180 A2
210-A2
240-A2
They have the same model without the pump and that will be the S2
Both the A2 and the S2 come to the USA as natural gas and has a propane conversion kit inside the left-hand side of the unit (see my past video on the conversion) This unit can also be used inside with 2
' PVE venting and fresh air intake or can be installed outside with their vent hood. So, this one unit is 4 unites in one inside, outside, natural gas and propane. It also comes with a high-altitude conversion kit if you are installing it over 2000 feet.
NPN model is there noncondensing version, this model needs to be bought either natural gas or propane. It comes as an outside unit or there (U) universal model that can be installed inside with concentric venting or outside with their vent hood.
NPN 160E
NPN180E
NPN199E
NPN 160U
NPN180U
NPN199U
Just remember you need to order this model either natural gas or propane.
NHW model is there noncondensing unit with circulation capability so it a cross between the NPE and the NPN unit this unit also comes either inside or outside model. the outside model can be installed with there vent hood.
NHW-AI 160
NHW-AI 180
NHW-AI 199
The AI is their interior model.
NHW-AE is their exterior unit,
and it comes as,
160
180
199
Remember with this model you need to order it natural gas or propane.
This is a rundown of the models and in the video, I give the sizing info.

Parts board for repairing tankless heaters.
zhlédnutí 172Před 14 dny
I've had a few questions about the board that I use to hold parts on my shop table when doing a video. This board I came up with on my woodworking channel to prevent small pieces from falling through the small dog holes in my work bench. I adapted it to be used when we have to rebuild say a heat exchanger on a tankless heater. We carry one on each truck and we use it on our DeWalt worktable tha...

This is an old video that I am reposting and renaming. This is one of the most asked questions I get and it's very hard to answer it over the phone. Even though I strictly do Navien I do answer and try to help people with all different unites. Most of the time it's a piping, vent or gas problem but sometimes it's a unit that has an internal problem. This is in my opinion the hardest thing to do...
How to protect your tankless during a storm and how to temporally power it.

Here in Florida, we get a lot of storms where we lose power and when the utility company restores the power we get surges. I have an RUR199iN that threw code 12 today. The unit is 2 years old (installed August 2022). When you remove the flame rods and ignitor, do you have to take it apart from the gasket? It looks like I could just carefully clean the flame rods and ignitor rods. I'd hate to damage the gasket. Other oddities with today's problem is that when the tankless water heater tries to fire up it causes the stove in the kitchen to lose flame. My wife was cooking while I was troubleshooting the unit. I turned on the tankless (plugged it in and turned it on). The tankless was "cycling" and sounded like it was always trying to "fire up". My wife came out and said they stove burner lost flame and would not re-light. I turned off and unplugged the tankless. And lo and behold, the stove started working again. Is the tankless just sucking too much gas when that happens?

Mike, I have 2 Rinnai R75Si units that are 16 years old. One of them has no error codes but will only run hot water to the shower for about 4 minutes then turns cold. Then will turn back hot for a little while then repeats the cold, hot situation. I had a level 3 tech come out and suggested a new heater. I just don't understand why it can't be fixed. Could you give me an idea of what might be the problem. I have reduced the Temp down to 102 so my wife can keep it on full hot, thinking it might be not enough flow to keep it running hot. But that hasn't fixed it either.

Hey Mike, great video. I appreciate the detailed explanation with why you do it this way. Is this also necessary on their combi boiler units? I've noticed they never have that bit of detail in their installation manuals. Also, have you ever run into issues with how brittle CPVC is? I've seen several plumbers say they won't install CPVC unless the customer signs a waiver. The waiver basically saying anything CPVC is not warrantied and callbacks/repairs on CPVC are full price because it's brittle and tends to fall apart. I've seen most recommend Sch 40 PVC or if the customer is really paranoid, sizing up and using Sch 80 PVC. Any thoughts on that?

Sir, you are a gem. My plumber wants $700 to replace the Venturi part. Thanks to your video, I can do it myself. However, Rinnai won’t send the part out directly to consumers so I will have to ask the plumber to hand it over. My question is: when the Venturi fails and throws a code 15, and I shut off the unit, should that affect the flow of water to my hot taps? I thought water was still supposed to flow through the unit (just not heated) even with the unit off/malfunctioning. This low-flow happened after I came home after 3 weeks away.

    • @johnl9595
      @johnl9595 Před 10 dny

Follow up: fixed my own Venturi replacement and it immediately solved the problem! Heater is working great again. To answer my earlier question, the Rinnai apparently shuts off the water valve when off and does not allow any cold water into the unit (or hot water out). This was why when I tried to flush the unit, my external submersible pump wasn’t able to push vinegar through the unit. To solve this, turn on the power for about 10 seconds, then shut off. When the machine cycles on, it should open the valve allowing water to bypass. PS, bought your tankless filter removal tool from Amazon. Pricey for $30, but I consider it a thank you to this master plumber!

What I’ve been trying find out is does Rinnai make an attachment to cover the intake, the outdoor aspect, screen to cut down on the amount of larger insects from entering the unit? It can be a problem especially during years of a lot of moths or wasps, I think I can design one that won’t interfere with the exhaust. My intake/exhaust pipe is longer than the one shown since it’s about 13 years old. I’ve been looking for such an attachment pretty much everywhere.

I assume it's a water flow or a flame sense issue. Maybe tech suport can walk you through trouble shooting to figure out what it is. Do you have a DMM and know how to use it?
